PERSONALITY: Niall is a rather complex being to understand, so most people don't even try, and he's okay with it. From a very young age, he's been very opinionated about everything, be it people or events or decisions. He always has to have a say in things, even if it's something redundant or pointless because he feels like his opinion matters a lot.
He is very hardworking and if he takes up a task, he treats it with utmost importance. Which is why he can come off as a little lazy because if he already knows he won't put his full, one hundred percent, he won't bother doing it at all. He's never had to make ends meet, always living off his family's fortune and because he knows no other life except for a rich kid, he takes his job rather seriously. He can't let himself think of a life where he runs out off money (even if the fortune will probably last generations) and has to live like the people he has low opinions of.
When it comes to family, he can't quite decide how he feels about them. He grew up as the eldest son of the eldest son of a pureblood family, which upheld strict morals and traditions, all of which have been passed on to him. He knows that he's an heir and he doesn't mind it at all because from a young age, he's been taught responsibility. The only people he actually could interact with were his cousins and his younger brother. But that doesn't mean he doesn't love his entire family, because he knows they love him too. More than anything, he recognizes the fact that blood is thicker than water.
He maybe a bit of a social entity, but he isn't actually very social. He knows a lot of people, people know his name but he doesn't have a lot of people he can trust or whom he can call a friend. He's arrogant and a fatalist. He's always believed that friendships and relationships make you weak and he can't stand the idea of being weak or looking vulnerable. To him, appearance is key. Look the part even when you don't feel the part. Chances are if he's upset, he'll keep a stoic expression but if you do the same around him, he won't hesitate to call on your lies.
Which leads to another fact - lies. The one thing he cannot stand. He isn't forgiving. So if you get on his bad side once, there's only a one percent chance you'll get back on his good side. He doesn't do forgiveness, as much as he doesn't do apologies. He's also quite adept at holding grudges and won't even hesitate to show it if he hates you.
Women, on the other hand, are like a game to him. Well, not women per say, but the means to get to them. He's never been in a relationship before and he's fine with it. He knows he won't believe in it and screw it up and the only thing worse than not doing something, is doing something horribly. So, he's always been a player, changing pursuits every few weeks and finding new, beautiful women to go after. But, he's always known his boundaries. He would never disrespect a woman or use her merely for physical gratification (which is why he doesn't like prostitutes). He always makes his intentions clear from the start and if the other party doesn't agree, then it's their loss. Although, he's quite charming and almost never gets a denial.
In short, he's extremely proud and cocky. He's handsome, rich and seductive, and no point telling him because he knows it very well.

His mother was an only child, hence, his entire extended family is paternal.
HISTORY:
Niall Anglesey was born on a muggy summer afternoon, humidity high, his wails filling up the estate and the mediwitch exasperated. That was the first time he disturbed the peace in the house. From a young age, Niall learnt to look after himself and be self sufficient. With his parents always busy, he was obviously provided with the best of the best when it came to gifts, clothes, toys, babysitters, governesses. He could get everything he asked for, and although it wasn't a substitute for his parents' company, he didn't know his life any other way and he enjoyed it.
His aunts and uncles doted over him and spoilt him senseless, since not only was he the only child for the time being in the large family, he was the first born boy, the eldest of the eldest. It wasn't uncommon to see him running from one uncle to another aunt, asking - well, demanding - for something or the other because one of them was sure to gaze into those "innocent" blue eyes and give in.
But he did feel the slightest bit of loneliness. When his governesses would read him tales - because it was the only time he listened, and didn't make them want to rip their hair out - of how young children would play with their kids their own age, but the only company he found was grown ups. Sure, he had a few play dates while his parents met with socialite friends, but none of them were anything but a competition who had the better toy. However, when he was three, his younger brother Nevin was born.
When his mother was pregnant with his brother, he used to notice how nobody paid as much attention to him anymore, so naturally he expected himself to hate the baby. In fact, he was fully ready to ask his mother to just put him back where he came for. But when he saw him, he grew too attached to even understand. Growing up, his brother and him were always fighting and quarreling, but he was one of the only people he would do anything for. His brother may have never gotten along with him, but he was his best friend and the closest he would have. The year after his brother was born, his first cousin, Muirin came into the family and he finally, finally had people his own age to keep him company.
When he was eleven, he got his Hogwarts letter. He was disappointed, because his mother had promised him he could go to Durmstrang but she changed her mind, saying she didn't want him to be so far away. So, he conceded and joined Hogwarts, and was sorted into Slytherin. His seven years in school were quite eventful, because they changed him in ways he can't quite describe.
When he was in his first year, his aunt Liana was killed by an unknown wizard. It was the first time, in his whole life, hehad faced anything even close to a tragedy. Being an heir of a rich, pure blood line, he'd been brought up with strict family values and traditions. Blood purity was something he upholded, and he understood that there were anti-pureblood activists as well. But it was the first time he faced the reality of the true world that lay out there.
He never did find out who killed her, because his family refused to tell him about it, if they even knew, and so he dropped the mystery. But he never let it go, because Liana had been his favorite aunt. In fact, he still has a watch she gave him when he was ten, and plans on passing it on someday, maybe to nieces or nephews of the future. Her death left an imprint on his young mind and after that he helplessly watched his family being torn apart.
As he progressed into his teen years, Niall was a popular boy. Although he never "hung out" or spent a lot of time with his peers, he was always at the parties and smooth talking the ladies. He was the aloof, rich boy and he loved the reputation. His parents probably thought he was acting out, trying to find his own identity and they were right. He would come back to the dorms, drunk with reprimanding and angry letters from home for doing it, but he pretended not to notice. He needed to find out who he was, apart from the money, legacy and the last name.
His brother and his cousin would often notice him fooling around or spending the evenings in pubs and question him about it, but he didn't really bother with an answer. He was determined to live his own life the way he wanted to and he felt like it wasn't fair on him or any of his family to be going through the pain they were.
He went home angry, and infuriated for reasons unknown. His parents were shocked by his behavior, confused as to what had happened to the well mannered boy they'd brought up. His aunts and uncles didn't understand and his cousins and brother tried to stay on his good side by keeping conversation to the minimal. He was a walking, talking time bomb, one which blew up the night before he was to return to school for his fifth year.
His father had had enough and reprimanded him, with his mother present there. Pushed beyond control, Niall fought back saying he hated his father was bringing him into a world he didn't want to be a part of, a family who didn't care. He didn't speak to his father again for the rest of the year, until the winter holidays when he went home to sort things out, only to find out his father had been killed the previous night. Niall was a mess after that. He was overwhelmed with guilt, which converted into anger and he avoided his brother and mother, who were too busy trying to handle the family with the deaths of his father, and then his grandfather soon after.
Niall went into a state of aloofness and subconsciousness. He was always lost in his own thoughts, agitated, irritated, snappy. He avoided whatever few friends he had, barely pursued girls. He only got the grades, and did whatever was needed to be done, the bare minimum. He was tormenting himself without even realizing it. And nobody really noticed, what with the mystery of his father's death, the issues with who got how much inheritance, his aunt's news of pregnancy, and his cousin's dyslexia.
He nearly lost it, when in his fifth year, his baby cousin Kavanagh was kidnapped. He still remembers the day, like yesterday...he was in school at the time..and he remembers the looks on Nevin's and Muirin's faces when the professor called them to her office and told them. He doesn't remember much from that night except waking up the next day with a barely clothed girl lying with him and bottles on the floor. He decided to take a break, right then and there and put his life back together.
He talked to his brother and mother (who cried when she realized how much her son had been going through unnoticed) and they decided to get him a private therapist. His temporary loss of interest in life was not something others needed to know about, and every weekend he would go home for sessions. His therapist told him he was perfectly normal for the way he was behaving, and that his temper issues and rebelliousness was a way of acting out. Apparently, his mind had converted every emotion he went through into anger and loathing, simply because it shied away from pain and suffering, or even love.
By the time he reached his sixth year, he was well on his way to getting back to the way he used to be, the charming, arrogant, yet loyal and practical Niall. He started converting his pent up anger or energy into creativity, via art and studies. He was still shy of getting close to people, but he didn't push away the ones who really cared for him.
Seven years since everything first went wrong in his life, he graduated a young, smart and thoughtful gentleman. He joined Gringotts as an intern, because a part of him still wanted to earn and build his own life, despite the amassed fortune. But his expertise and skills, quickly got him to the top and he became bank manager.
Now, he is living in his old family home with his mother. He has an apartment in the city, but he spends only a few nights there, mostly keeping it as an investment and for social gatherings.
