Other: She pretty much always wears bright nail polish on her toenails. As she goes barefoot whenever possible, it's often on display.
Personality: Jocasta's a bit of a free spirit. She prefers to thnk for herself and likes other people who do too - she finds people who just follow the herd annoying. She's not aggressive about it though, and generally manages to hide it when she finds someone irritating. She treats everyone the same, and is interested in people, but in a quiet, observational way - she's more likely to be found sitting in the corner of a social gathering, happily people-watching, than in the centre of a big crowd of people. Having said that, her geniune interest in people makes her good company, so she's quite popular, although people see her as a little bit 'odd.' That might have something to so with her preferences for sitting on the floor rather than a chair and for sleeping out of doors rather than in a bed, as well as her tendency not to wear shoes whenever she can get away with it, her early morning swims in the lake, and her love of fire. She's very good at listening, and at being the stable one when her friends are having a crisis, but she doesn't talk about her own emotions very much.
Likes: Being outside, gardens, growing things, watching the stars, fires, swimming, marmalade, interesting people and dragons (she's never actually met a dragon, she just likes the idea of them).
Dislikes: Being indoors for long periods, cities, cleaning, small spaces, arbitrary rules, pumpkin juice, prejudiced people and thestrals (She can see them. She wishes she couldn't.)

Background: Jocasta is the daughter of a squib and a Muggle - however, her mother stayed in touch with her family, and Jocasta has always been aware of the wizarding world through her Armstrong grandparents. When she was five and her sister Damaris was 7, Damaris was hit by a car as she ran across the road, and was killed. Jocasta witnessed the accident, which she never forgot. After that, her parents' marriage crumbled, and she, her mother and her little brother moved back to the Scottish borders, where her grandparents live. They live in something approaching a commune - it isn't one, but they are a small, close, magical community who choose to live an 'alternative' life. They have a large community garden where they grow most of their own food, and they encourage their children to live out of doors as much as possible. They are pacifists (Jocasta has come to disagree with this part of their philosophy) and largely stayed out of the fighting during the Wizarding Wars, although they did offer a safe haven for Muggle-borns and other fugitives. They were going to homeschool Jocasta and Aidan, but Jocasta insisted on going to Hogwarts, and Aidan tends to follow his sister. They don't see their father very often (he lives in Spain), but they are close to their mother's family and always go home for the holidays.

Jo shuffled up next to her friend, and slipped an arm round the other girl's shoulders, bare feet hooked up underneath her.
"You know what you need to do? You need to stop crying, go and wash the mascara off your face, march down into the Common Room and kick him where it hurts the most. Failing that, you need to do the first two anyway, and then go down to the Common Room smiling, and show him that a lowlife like him could never ever get to an amazing, incredible, beautiful girl like you. I'm coming with you, and we're going to laugh like madwomen. Okay?"
And with that she jumped up, grabbed her friend's hand and attempted to haul her towards the bathroom.
