PERSONALITY: Alcaeus has always been very withdrawn. He stays away from large groups and avoids meeting new people, and he is excessively secretive about his own life. He has difficulty trusting people, and it takes a very persistent and tactful person to gain him as a friend. Once a person has earned his trust, though, he is fiercely loyal to him or her. He would do anything to protect his family and the few friends that he has, and can be very dangerous if provoked.
He is incredibly arrogant, and very set in his ways and beliefs. He is of the opinion that Muggles are less than human, and ought to be subservient to witches and wizards, and very much prides himself on his purely magical lineage. He strongly disapproves of homosexuality, too – even though he was half raised by two lesbians. He’s sure that Felicia made the choice just out of spite for his grandparents, but he mostly tries not to think about it. He puts on a front of being very accepting of it, though, which leads me to the last thing.
Perhaps because he had to keep secrets from day one, Alcaeus is very good at hiding his feelings and generally fooling people. It’s how he keeps his business running when he really doesn’t like people as a general rule, and it’s probably a big part of how he’s stayed alive this long.
ON THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS

WAND: Elm and manticore hair, eleven and a half inches. A powerful feminine wood with a fierce masculine core, this wand is extremely versatile. Like Alcaeus, it can either do incredible good or unspeakable harm, depending on the situation.
BROOMS: A Comet 290 purchased by his grandparents for his 15th birthday
PET(s): A small, yellow female vipera ursinii named Venancia, and a medium-sized, male red bearded dragon named Fidenzo.
WHERE THE CITY SLEEPS
Relationships
AMORTERIA: Cinnamon, pine, and oregano
MIRROR OF ERISED: At this point, Alcaeus has almost everything he wants – a successful business, a beautiful wife, and two sons that he can be proud of. His only desire now is for wizards and witches to take what he sees as their true place in the world, at the top of society, and to be recognized for bringing that change around.
VERITASERUM: There are a lot of things that 90% of the people who know Alcaeus don’t know about. His biggest secret is that his mother is alive. He’s lived his entire life convincing everyone he meets that he is an orphan, because his mother faked her own death to evade capture by aurors for six counts of murder. Most of what goes on at his workplace, The Spiny Serpent, is a secret, seeing as he deals with several illegal species of plants and animals. He’s gotten very good at keeping secrets out of sheer necessity. He also keeps it under wraps that he often writes poetry and that he has extreme hydrophobia – both things that he feels would make him appear weak to other people.
BOGGART: His biggest fear is somewhat difficult to objectify or put an image to, as it’s a fear of drowning. But if he were to be faced with a boggart it would probably take the form of a powerful surge of water coming towards him. The reason behind it is that when he was seven years old, his aunt took him to a beach for the first time. He was splashing around in water about up to his knees, when a sudden, strong undercurrent whisked him out to sea. He didn’t inhale any water, only swallowed a few mouthfuls, but it was more than enough to make him avoid water for the rest of his life.
DEMENTOR: After spending a week with his mother over Easter of 2001, Alcaeus returned to Italy where he lived with his grandmother with a mysterious sense of foreboding. When he apparated to the end of the winding driveway, there were no lights on in the house – a very strange thing to see in the early evening. His suspicion that something was horrible wrong was confirmed when he got to the front door and found it unlocked. The entry hall was covered in blood, and his grandmother was lying in the center of the room, clearly posed for him to find. She had been stabbed numerous times, and badly cut up otherwise. Not only was the image deeply disturbing, his enormous feelings of guilt at not being there cemented the event in his mind forever.
PATRONUS: It seems trite, but his happiest memory at this point is the day his first son, Antonio was born. Family was always extremely important to him, so starting one of his own had been a goal of Alcaeus’ for a long time. His wife wanted a home birth, so they hired a live-in nurse to oversee the final stages of her pregnancy. Alcaeus actually took two weeks off from work so he was sure to be there when their child was born.
AND I’M THE ONLY ONE
Familyhistory
FATHER: Vincent Alcaeus Wilkes, deceased. A high-up Death Eater, he was killed by aurors towards the end of the First Wizarding War, in April of 1980 – he was only 22 years old. As such, Alcaeus never met his father. He’s heard a lot about him from his mother, though – enough to understand that he was devoted to the Dark Lord’s cause, and devoted to the only two people in his life that he loved – his wife, and his little sister.
MOTHER: Elvira Roxanne Wilkes, 62. A former Death Eater, she was forced to into hiding when she discovered she was pregnant with Alcaeus. She had killed six wizards she found to be connected to Vincent’s death, and knew it was only a matter of time before they caught her – something she would have gladly allowed, so that she could die the way that Vincent did, until she found out she was going to have his child. She went to live with her estranged twin sister, Felicia, who took her in without any questions, and became much more withdrawn and less confrontational. Officially, she went missing and was presumed dead. She is devoted to her son, and works around the house to repay Felicia for her kindness.
CHILDREN:
Marcellus Caetan Wilkes: 16, Slytherin student.[/ul]
OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY:
Sofia and Vladimir Ivanesca – Grandparents, deceased. In the early stages of Alcaeus’ life, they lived nearby in England. He rarely got to see them, though, as their relationship with Felicia was quite strained. Still, they were fairly close. When he was 12, they moved to Italy, and he went to live with them for several years when Hogwarts fell apart towards the end of his sixth year.[/ul]
HISTORY: Alcaeus Wilkes was born under very strange circumstances. When his mother was three months pregnant, she turned up at the residence of her twin sister, on the run from magical law enforcement. Over the next six months, they devised a plan to stage her disappearance immediately after the birth of the baby. The story given to aurors was that the newborn boy turned up on Felicia Ivanesca’s doorstep sometime around New Years’ Eve, along with an apologetic suicide note from her sister. The body was never discovered, but when Elvira was never seen or heard from again, the aurors assumed she had followed through on her threat to take her own life.
Little did the general public know, Elvira Ivanesca was living quietly with her son and her sister, with a greatly transfigured appearance. With the help of her sister, Elvira went from a slender, black-haired, blue-eyed picture of a porcelain doll to a thickset and very plain-looking, mousy-haired and chocolate-eyed woman. When Alcaeus was between the ages of 5 and 7, she slowly transitioned back to her old looks. Even from this young age, Alcaeus was told everything about why his mother had to change so much, and was always taught that he could never say a word to anyone about her existence – even his grandparents, who would without a doubt be socked and offended that Elvira had gone to her sister for help instead of them. His grandparents never came to Felicia’s residence, but insisted that Alcaeus stay with them at least once a month.
Between the two houses and four maternal figures (his grandmother, mother, aunt, and his aunt’s partner), Alcaeus’ childhood was a very inconsistent one. Even though his aunt was a member of the original Order of the Phoenix, he learned from his mother and grandparents to value blood purity. He respected his aunt, but he never really felt a connection with her or Veronica. All in all, he was relieved to be going away from his confusing family dynamic when he got his Hogwarts letter in 1992. It was both a further relief and a further strain when, in mid-1993, his grandparents retired to Italy.
He was sorted into Slytherin, and quickly established himself as kind of a loner. He was handsome and intelligent, and people wanted to befriend him, but he generally avoided the lot of them and got a reputation for being cruel and aloof. Of course, this attracted a fair number of girls anyway, especially when coupled with his blood status and tragic past. He dated several girls throughout his time at Hogwarts, but was never very serious about any of his relationships. Nearly all of the girls eventually gave up on trying to get him to confide in them, and the ones who didn’t got on his nerves so much that he would ultimately dump them.
Of course, it has to be noted that he went to school with the famous Harry Potter. He avoided the boy like the plague, partially because he simply had a natural dislike for the boy who made the Dark Lord disappear, but mostly because his aunt went to school with his parents, and was friends with them. All five years they were at school together, Alcaeus worried that somehow Potter would get through to him, and he would reveal something about his past. It wasn’t any easier with the boy’s “arch-nemesis”, Draco Malfoy – his father had, apparently, dated Alcaeus’ mother, and Elvira never had anything but horrible things to say about the man. This meant that Alcaeus was one of the few Slytherins who was as cruel to Malfoy as he was to people in any other house: something that cemented his reputation as a mean, friendless weirdo.
By the start of his sixth year, he had two close friends, but many, many more enemies. The Dark Lord was rising in power again, and suddenly his last name commanded a fearful respect from his fellow students. Harry Potter was gone, which was a definite relief, but the school began to devolve in his absence. By April of 1998, it was obvious to Alcaeus that he wasn’t going to get anything out of the remainder of his education at Hogwarts. He sent an owl to his mother explaining everything he could, and ran to Italy to live with his grandparents. He enrolled in a school there and finished his education within a year, then began working to help maintain his grandparents’ household. His grandfather became horribly ill in the summer of 1999 and died that September, but Alcaeus continued to live a comfortable life with his grandmother for another two years.
Still, nothing lasts forever. In the spring of 2000, after spending a week with his mother and aunt, he came home to discover that his grandmother had been brutally murdered. He blamed himself – and still does – for not being there, and the image haunts him to this day. Within a week he had sold the house, gotten his grandmother cremated, and moved back to the London area. He contacted one of his old friends from school in search of a job, and got a lucky break – his friend was running a shop called The Spiny Serpent because it had always been in his family, but he was rapidly losing interest and therefore business. He all but handed over the shop to Alcaeus, who has managed it ever since.
In 2001, once he was settled back into the rhythm of life in London, he met the woman who would become his wife. She was a beautiful, fiery pureblood with who frequented the Spiny Serpent, and the two connected almost immediately in a way that Alcaeus never thought possible. By early 2002, they were living together in a handsome mansion just outside of Woodford, and they were married in July. Business was thriving, and they were able to live quite comfortably. Their first son, Anotio, was born in May of 2003, followed by a second boy, Marcellus, in January of 2006. Alcaeus catered completely to his two sons and his wife, carefully maintaining the shop. When the time came, he sent both of his sons to Hogwarts.
This, essentially, has brought him up to the present time. His elder son graduated and is now studying magical law, while the younger is still a successful student. He’s very proud of his children, and even more proud of his parents and grandparents. He’s taken care to stay in touch with the relatives he has left in Italy, though most are but distant cousins at this point.
AND I WALK ALONE

(( An OOC note: This is Albus Severus Potter, not Albus Dumbledore. Rereading the post, that’s made… Fairly obvious by some of the content. I just want to prevent confusion xD ))
Albus sighed quietly as he made his way rather aimlessly across the Hogwarts grounds. All things considered, it had been a relaxed day. Transfiguration, double Potions, History of Magic, and Charms had all been a breeze, and even his Advanced Ancient Runes class had been relatively simple: a lot of review, and a short translation for homework. People were still getting back into the rhythm of school, and the teachers were – oddly enough – sensitive to that. He’d gone to the library to do his homework, which hardly took him forty minutes, then walked outside. He wasn’t too keen on returning to the Slytherin common room just yet, and dinner wouldn’t be served for quite some time.
The grounds were dotted with little groups of students, playing games or talking. One or two even had their books out, apparently working on homework together. Albus walked past all of them completely unnoticed. Despite his instantly recognizable face, Al had a peculiar way of completely blending into the background when he didn’t want to be noticed, which was the majority of the time. He glanced back over the grounds to make sure no one had noticed him, then slipped around to the other side of Hagrid’s hut. Most days he would have stopped to say hello – Hagrid was, after all, a dear friend of the family – but today he didn’t really feel like socializing. He was thinking about a lot of things, still surprised at how quickly he’d gotten to his seventh and final year at Hogwarts.
So, with vague ideas of the future swirling around in his head, Al wandered into the Forbidden Forest. The woods weren’t really forbidden, no matter how much teachers reminded first years that they were. They were “filled with dangerous creatures”, but you were perfectly safe if you knew where to go, who to befriend, and who not to mess with. Naturally, being a Potter and a friend of Hagrid’s, Al was perfectly welcome in the trees, and knew his way around well enough that he could wander without paying much attention to where his feet were taking him. He came to a clearing and, much to his surprise, found that he wasn’t alone. Sitting on a stump a few yards away was a petite blonde girl he recognized as Evanna Cresswell. They had met several times, as she was good friends with his siblings, but had never really talked all that much. She appeared to be writing something, and based on the style of parchment it wasn’t a History of Magic essay. Something told him that he ought to leave her alone, that whatever she was up to was likely personal, but as he took a step backwards he stepped on a branch that snapped rather loudly under his weight. He sighed again, knowing that he had no choice now but to stay.
“Hi, Evanna,” he said a little awkwardly. ”I don’t mean to intrude or anything, I just come through the forest a lot to, you know, get away from the school, and you’re… Well. I suppose you know where you are, so I don’t have to add that bit,” he concluded with a tiny, self-conscious chuckle.
