The Looks [IC]
HAIR COLOR:[/b] Black; highlights of brown can be seen only in sunlight
EYE COLOR:[/b] Grey-Blue; darkens when she’s agitated
SKIN TONE:[/b] Pale; she is extremely sensitive to sunlight and hence, though she is pale, her cheeks are almost always flushed and she looks tanner than she is.
BODY SHAPE:[/b] Her figure is slightly curvaceous but she’s quite self conscious and always wears clothes that are concealing (much to her mother’s chagrin).
OVERALL APPEARANCE:[/b] Diya isn’t very tall; at 5’ 4 she is on the shorter side. She has long wavy hair that reaches almost past her waist; she plaits it and holds it up in a knot at the base of her neck for school though when she’s not attending classes, she quite likes letting it down; she is convinced that her hair is her one redeeming quality in her appearance. She’s completely skipped the Italian side of her heredity and she dislikes how she looks and tries to draw as little attention to her appearance as possible. Diya has eyes that are a little too big on her face( in her opinion); she has a birthmark where her neck and right collarbone meet and on her right wrist. She has a small scar on her jaw from when she fell off a table when she was a kid. The only act of rebellion she allows in her appearance are the long dangly ear rings she wears. She got attracted to them during one of her visits to India and wears them with even her school robes.

Extras [IC]

LEAST FAVOURITE CLASS:[/b] Herbology
BROOM:[/b] A Firebolt 2001 that is one of her most prized belongings (it was the first gift her father gave her)
PET/S:[/b] A pitch black owl she named Athena (because at the time she bought her, she was obsessed with Muggle Greek Mythology) who is quite shrewd and is able to sense her moods. A milk snake named Piper who resides at her home; though she is essentially afraid of snakes, Piper is the one exception she allows because she knows he is harmless.
HOBBIES:[/b] Quidditch, listening to music(Muggle music; especially Indian), reading anything she can get her hands on, dreaming up civilizations and their lives(that’s the only time her dreamy nature comes out), playing Wizard’s Chess, Trying out new spells(a few she shouldn’t even know about), Tutoring students and…does bossing people around count? Oh, and hunting down her sister in hopes of miraculously making amends wit her (suffice to say, no such sensation had happened yet)

Personality [IC]
LIKES:[/b] Books, loneliness(that is, staying away from crowds; she is Claustrophobic), History, Myths (investigating into their truthfulness and possibilities is probably how she spends most of her free time), helping people (she often ends up poking her nose where it doesn’t belong), flying around the Pitch when its deserted (she lets her hair float around when she does that so if anyone sees her, they’d probably mistake her for a banshee let loose on the Pitch), Wizards Chess, the wind.
DISLIKES:[/b] People who are snarky (she can take sarcasm but the ‘I’m so much better than you’ attitude annoys her), losing (she is competitive), not knowing something(not gossip just…normal everyday things like spells and Charms), disappointing anybody, not being able to relate to her sister, make-up or rather doing anything artificial to her physique, people who slack even at crucial times (she’s fine with occasional goofing around)
BAD HABITS:[/b] Speaks her mind when incensed, is sticky about following rules, judges people a little too soon, it takes a lot to change her opinion of people, overindulges her pets, is annoyingly interfering in the lives of people she cares about, turns into a freaky smotherer when someone close to her gets hurt or is ill, flies off into a temper when someone insults people she likes (might not be a bad habit if she doesn’t hold onto the insult forever), holds grudges to her heart a little too long(cursed with too good a memory), spouts advice that sometimes is too honest for the other person’s comfort.
GOOD HABITS:[/b] Sticks up for people she cares about even if it means going against the world, forgives those close to her without question even if they had committed murder, doesn’t hesitate to help people even those she doesn’t know at all, doesn’t abuse her Prefect privileges (means, she won’t give anyone detention off the bat), takes care to keep in touch with her family(even if it means being ridiculed by her sister), doesn’t make friends easily but once she does she’d give her life for them, used the knowledge she has gained for others’ benefit and not just her own.
STRENGTHS:[/b] She’s forever trying to find the silver lining to every cloud(and almost always does), Compassionate, Intellect (Why she is a Ravenclaw), Calm(normally), works as hard as she needs to and then some, Doesn’t lose sight of the bigger picture no matter what (that is, even if she loses a battle, she fights back and keeps her sight on the war) and learns very quickly.
WEAKNESSES:[/b] Can’t admit to mistakes that easily, she has a big issue with apologizing especially when she is on the wrongful side, she is a little too proud, she comes off as reserved and rude at first meeting (she doesn’t really do well with conversing with people she doesn’t know), she is too conservative and often, things going on around her that are normal make her cringe.
PERSONALITY:[/b] Diya, just as her name means, is generally a positive and radiant person but more often than not, her emotions and feelings reflect on her face and so she is seen as moody. One minute, she could be on sugar high and all bubbly and the next, you might find her in some corner of the commonroom reading some depressing tale about some disaster long ago. Though she doesn’t speak much about how she is feeling, her face and actions more than express it and she doesn’t realize this most of the time.
Being left alone from her childhood, Diya has come to embrace and love her loneliness and books became her friends from a tender age. When she feels too stuffed or too suffocated, it is the self same books and loneliness she seeks. If she wants to clear her head, she’ll probably read some book and immerse herself in someone else’s problem. Distracting herself is the best method she has come up with to keep herself afloat. This makes her actions seem weird and unsituational at times but she doesn’t mind that, intent only on righting herself; kind of like drawing back into a shell till she recovers.
She is afraid to show anyone her vulnerable side and often puts up a brave, strong front to cover her insecurities. She does gear herself up to face her fears each time but so far, she has continuously failed at it. The only time she undertakes risks is when someone very close to her is in dire danger; she wouldn’t let go of her fears for anything less than that. She is no foolishly brave Gryffindor after all is the justification she has been giving herself all these years.
When in a fix, Diya tries to argue her way out of it; she doesn’t go for manipulation or appealing; she thinks that she can win over anyone through logic, though that isn’t always her first reaction if she is caught off guard.
When she was made a Prefect, she vowed to undertake her responsibility properly and has since come above her reservedness, if only a little. She has started helping random people out and has discovered that it is a better way of getting to know people than acting shy and conversation-stunted. Sometimes, though, she goes above the line to help people and is mistaken for being nosy.
She is a little too loyal for an intended Slytherin and anyone who is close to her knows that they can count on her if they get into any problems. She offers her support unbridled to those around her.
Being taunted by her sister right from her childhood has made her very self conscious, especially of her looks. Though her mother tries very hard, she is not able to overcome it and almost often, she chooses the wrong dresses. Not to say that her dressing sense is horrible, but she’d much rather wear baggy jeans and T-shirts rather than form fitting, knee length dresses anytime. She hates make up and consequently, she wears almost nothing on her face. This all goes down the drain when she is upset, though. When she is desperate, Diya ends up doing everything she avoids at other times, like dressing skimpily and doing her hair fancily. One can guess her state of mind from that almost precisely.
Her interest in books almost made her purely academic; work was all she could find to distract herself with during her earlier days and that habit she has kept close to her heart. She works more hours than is advisable and often ends up sleeping on the couch reading a book (almost often on Myths). The only time she gets outdoors is when she plays Quidditch or when there is a horribly windy day.
Diya loves the wind, whether it is breezy or stormy. More likely than not, Diya would take a walk out in the grounds when there is a storm brewing, trying to get the best of the wind before the rain spoils it. It is one of the reasons she loves Quidditch, because she feels close to the air when she is on top of a broom that anywhere else. No matter how sad/depressed she is, just one bout of breeze on her face would instantly cheer her up. Though she generally is not an outdoorsy person, she would go out of her comfort zone to feel the wind on her face.
Diya has very strong opinions about relationships (which she learnt from her maternal grandmother) and is quite conventional. She has stayed away from relationships till her fifth year stating her studies as her reason and her one boyfriend (in a very loose sense of the word) cheating on her struck her hard. Though she never shows it outside, it has made her even more closed up about dating. She hasn’t turned cynical about love, she still holds onto the idea of falling for someone someday but she is just paranoidly careful about letting herself become vulnerable again.

Memories [IC]
BOGGART:[/b] Of being estranged from her family; it was what made her stifle her desire to become an Archaeologist.
DEMENTOR:[/b] Being sorted into Ravenclaw; she still hasn’t forgotten the words Alysha spoke to her about not being a worthy Zabini.
PATRONUS:[/b] The Birth of Leela and one isolated incident when she and Alysha were kids when her sister helped her out when she got hurt rather than jeering at her.
MIRROR OF ERISED:[/b] To solve her problems with Alysha; to become a renowned Magical Archaeologist.
VERITASERUM:[/b] 1. She begged the sorting hat to put her in Slytherin
2. She loves dressing up for Leela and playing Dollhouse with her though she complains each time
3. She does pay attention to her mother’s words of wisdom though she punctuates each of her ‘lectures’ with a stifled yawn.
4. She has a stash of Muggle Archaeological instruments that she keeps hidden from her family
5. She is actually terrified of the plants she learns about in herbology though she’d never show it outside
AMORTENTIA:[/b] The smell of new fabric(which is how her parents’ room smells at most times), since she discovered its location, the smell of the Hogwarts’ kitchen, age old parchment and a scent of the wind (which is what she terms that final thing she smells)
[/font]

Family & History [IC]
MOTHER:[/b] Parvati Zabini, 42, owner of Madame Malkins. Diya has a slightly distant relationship with her mother because they rarely see eye to eye in the things that matter most to Parvati namely clothes and boys.
FATHER:[/b] Blaise Zabini, 42, Auror. Diya is Daddy’s girl through and through and used to have Blaise wrapped around her finger before Leela was born. Though she grudges the loss of her influence over her father, she doesn’t love him or Leela any less for it.
SIBLINGS:[/b] Alysha Zabini, 17, Slytherin. Diya’s relationship with her sister is non-existent if one is being optimistic and filled with hate, in reality. The two rarely ever get along and often Diya ends up getting hurt from Alysha’s harsh words, though that doesn’t hinder her attempts to reconcile with her.
Leela Zabini, 6. Leela is the center of the Zabini family and though Diya knows that all thei spoiling is making Leela a brat, Diya doesn’t fail to do her bit. She is the one Leela approaches when she wants to play dress up or when she wants to learn English.
OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY:[/b] Padma Patil, Maternal Aunt.
Vivek Patil, Maternal grandfather, deceased and multiple grandfathers from Mrs.Zabini’s many marriages though none of the Zabinis have met one so far.
Nandhini Patil, Maternal grandmother and mentor to Diya and Eloise Zabini, paternal grandmother.
HISTORY:[/b] It caused a scandal in the wizarding world when Blaise Zabini, one of the heirs of the Pureblood families married Parvati Patil, who was, for the lack of a better world, a high ranking DA member. But they were too in love to let anything separate them and when, after a year, a child was born to them, the couple were ecstatic. But the happiness did not last as the child died a few weeks after it was born. The couple was distraught but Blaise managed to recover better than Parvati, who was completely broken. Nothing anyone did cheered her up anymore and she was falling deeper and deeper into the throes of depression. It was during this time that Alysha was born and caught in one of her worst bouts of depression, Parvati hardly ever looked after Alysha. Blaise was the one who took up the responsibility for the child and even he had little time to spare between taking care of his wife and attending to his job. When Diya was born, Parvati had recovered enough to look after her; she didn’t want to fail as a mother this time and paid careful attention to Diya. It made Alysha feel even more left out and to this day, the hatred she has for Diya continues.
Ever since her memory serves, Diya only remembers the taunts of her elder sister; those are earliest memories of her family she has. Diya was very frail as a child, both physically and mentally. Though she had enough willpower to put up an image of being strong, she looked for support where she could.
Blaise had pampered her as a child and being the youngest in the house for a long time, she had become Daddy’s girl through and through. She always went to her father with her problems since she contrasted a little too much with her mother. Things came crashing down on her when she learnt that her father had hoped she would be a son. She knew she couldn’t change anything but she still feels oddly guilty, as if she had disappointed her father right from the first.
Having lived a good part of her childhood at her mother’s home in India, Diya was brought up with Indian and English values in equal measure though she embraced the Indian ones better. Her maternal grandmother was a great influence in her life in the early days and it was her tales about mythology and morals that put Diya to sleep every night. Attached to the country that fascinates her so, Diya visits the place as often as she can, though her grandmother, who loves her dearly, claims it isn’t often enough.
When she was about four years old, Parvati took up the shop that she had dreamt of running one day; Madame Malkins. Left alone at home with none but her sister for company, Diya chose to be lonely willingly, turning to books to spend her time.
As she grew, Parvati tried to imbibe her sense of fashion in Diya, but in vain; she had little to no interest in looking dressed up, she always chose comfortable clothes over good looking ones. She had a little tiff with her mother over the issue but relented a bit, allowing her mother to pamper her on occasion. She still has a firm hold on her mother’s hand when it comes to boys, though.
Diya considers her elder sister an enigma because she has never been able to figure her out; or her irrational hate for Diya. As far as she remembers, Diya had done nothing to offend or hurt Alysha so she is still in the dark about her sister’s actions. She has made several attempts to solve the mystery but after repeatedly ending up getting hurt by Alysha’s sharp words, she gave up trying and only ever approached Alysha when there was a wicked storm outside and she needed someone to comfort her. Alysha certainly doesn’t do that but Diya, till she was at home, used to sleep beside Alysha’s bed on the floor without her knowing, her mere presence soothing her from her fear of the storm.
She was leaving for Hogwarts when Leela was born and though Diya didn’t get enough time to spend with her little sister, she loves her as much as she loves Alysha. Their relation is smooth unlike the one with Alysha and Diya is extremely patient and indulgent with Leela.
Diya spent most of the days before Hogwarts looking forward to the train journey where she dreamt she would make a lot of friends who would stand by her always; but what she found was that she was too reserved and shy to even speak up to the strange people(as they seemed to her). She spent most of the train ride alone though that didn’t dishearten her. She’d find friends once she was sorted into Slytherin. She’d most probably see Scorpius and Chloe again too, she thought with expectation.
Though her sorting was very short, Diya considers it the most grueling two minutes of her life; where she proved her sister’s words once again that she wasn’t worth it. She got placed in Ravenclaw against her ardent desire to be in Slytherin. It wouldn’t have been bad if Alysha hadn’t pushed it into her face for the next few years continuously.
For the first few years, Diya’s sole haunt was the library where she read, read and read. More often than not, she ended up crying, thinking of the imaginations she had made about the castle and how different and harsh reality was. Her fear of darkness prevented her from roaming about and Diya has, to this day, never explored the castle.
Slowly, she made a few friends; they weren’t very close to her, but still, she knew they were something more than mere acquaintances. Most of them befriended her because she was able to help them with their studies and homework. Diya knew this but she didn’t want to lose those few people who were around her willingly. Over time, she realized her mistake; her being reserved was being construed as haughtiness. Diya wanted to break the image somehow and was waiting for an opportunity when, in her fifth year, she was made Prefect.
Seizing at the lifeline she had been thrown, Diya concentrated hard on fulfilling her Prefect Duties; helping people as much as she could and trying to keep peace in the corridors between students. She also started tutoring the younger kids.
Diya knows she has come a long way and since there was a time when she was totally friendless, she appreciates the friends she has made a lot and tries to keep life for them perfect. She ends up getting involved in messes she’d rather keep out of, but her heart is almost always in the right place.
