Even at Hogwarts, her primary reason for being seen on the grounds will be to practice and/or go for a quick run in the very early mornings/late evenings. Not a big fan of the high-intensity workouts that her brother engages in frequently to get in shape for boxing - she likes aerobic style activities such as long distance running to train for playing football in the summer along with refreshing workouts like yoga and Muggle gymnastics just for fun.

PERSONALITY:[/b] Shay is a generally happy person - it takes a lot to make her either unhappy or angry, which she considers to be a great asset because she always sees everyone around her either pissed off or angsting about something or the other the majority of the time. In addition to this, she likes smiling even without reason sometimes, which annoys some people when combined with how she's a morning person and tries to convince all her friends to get into the habit of waking up early along with her. Most people will recognize her for her smile as she's been known to smile at random fellow students in the corridors between lessons and such to brighten up their day. Because she's outgoing and has a positive outlook on life, she can make new friends easily and associate with acquaintances without things being awkward.
She's a bit of a flirt most of the time with any guy that flirts with her first, though she does tend to make the first move if she's feeling lucky. She's usually overly confident with herself and her appearance even though she loathes make-up unlike most of the girls she knows and never puts much effort into doing her hair or dressing up in what are considered "proper" clothes outside of her uniform (other than when a uniform is required for lessons, she's almost always sporting an old t-shirt, football shorts and simple sandals).
Just as she doesn't understand all the reasons people have to be unhappy (though she can sympathize easily because she's a good listener whenever her friends need her), she also doesn't understand everyone's obsession and the hype around sex. She thinks about it just as much as other people her age, but she doesn't think it's that big of a deal even whilst not ever having experienced it herself. One thing that turns her off more than anything is that when a guy blatantly labels her a tease because she doesn't go much further than snogging, even when in a relationship. This is usually what has lead her to breaking up with people in the past, because she hates being stereotyped and insulted in such a way just because she doesn't want to have sex yet.
She's had only a few relationships in the past, not because she shies away from commitment (she'd like to have a serious relationship one day almost more than anything else), but because she finds a few flings here and there much more appropriate and fun because she's far too independent for most the liking of most of the guys that she's gone out with and doesn't want to keep trying relationships if they're not going to work. On the other hand, there's a large part of her that still believe in fairy tale endings from Muggle films she's watched and fantasizes about possible true love with the perfect guy one day, but this is something that she'd never willingly admit to anyone because she thinks everyone around her thinks and feels the exact opposite.
Other than either finishing schoolwork or practicing football in her spare time, she enjoys drinking tea like it's going out of fashion and looking out for a good party or get-together whenever there happens to be one. She drinks responsibly but still has a fair share of funny drunk stories, much to the dismay of her older brother.

HISTORY:[/b] Shay Thomas is the second eldest child and eldest daughter of Courtney Ashby-Thomas and Dean Thomas. Her parents met during the second Wizarding war when Courtney was in fourth year and Dean was in seventh year. Though he believed himself to be a Half-Blood, Dean was chased by Snatchers during the war for having no proof of lineage of his father. Dean's mother was a Muggle and had never told him anything about his father other than he was a Pureblood who'd married her and had then been pursued by Death Eaters to join their ranks before his disappeared entirely with no contact made with Dean's mother thereafter.
At the same time, Courtney was a Muggleborn, and thus it wasn't safe for her to return to Hogwarts either, even though she didn't tell her mother and father this. They sent her off to platform 9 3/4 like all the years before, but this time she ran from King's Cross after finding that Snatchers had been set around the station in hunt for Muggleborns. She and Dean met while both were running from Snatchers. At first, Dean was hesistant about being involved with someone so much younger than him, but soon took a liking to the Hufflepuff girl. They continued to stay in contact after the second war, and soon began to date. In 2003, after dating for nearly six years, Courtney and Dean married. The next year, their first child, Roland Thomas, was born.
Shay was born just one year after Roland, so she immediately grew close to her older brother and they pretty much grew up together, experiencing many of the same things at the same time because of the small age difference between them. Her parents also seemed to adore her and she grew up in a loving environment, aside from the fights that she and Roland often found themselves in a few years later. However, she loves her brother at heart more than she can even say, though she'll never admit this openly in front of him (she makes the assumption that he's already aware of this after everything they've been through together). She was also delighted when her younger sister and brother were born when she was still young, and she was secretly pleased to finally not be the youngest child.
When she was eleven years old and in her first year at Hogwarts, her father, Dean, received bad news. Dean's stepfather, the man who had taken care of him and his mother for years, had been diagnosed with cancer. Dean's siblings had all taken off, and Dean was the only one who'd kept in touch with them. Mr. & Mrs. Thomas didn't have the money to continue to pay for Mr. Thomas' chemo treatments, and they asked Dean for help.
Dean didn't have the money either, but Courtney knew a way they could get the money. They had to ask her parents (who were investment bankers) to help them out in this time of need. The only problem was that she hadn't spoken to her parents in years. After the second Wizarding war, they'd begged Courtney to give up the Magical world that they referred to as "magical foolishness" since it'd almost gotten her killed during the war. She'd simply defied their wishes and instead married Dean. However, years later, Mr. & Mrs. Ashby gladly supplied the money for Dean's stepfather's treatment in exchange for finally getting to know their grandchildren.
Shay was confused the majority of the time with this new arrangement, but she trusted Roland and as he continually took responsibility for her and their younger siblings when they were away from their parents and with their grandparents, she learned to adapt to the situation. Eventually the four kids started to learn Muggle things from their new grandparents during their long stays with them. Shay had already been introduced to Muggle football from an early age from her father, who'd been a football enthusiast from as far back as his own Hogwarts years, and her grandparents seemed to appreciate the fact that she was so interested in a Muggle sport. They attempted to teach her other things as well, such as art and literature, but she only ever ended up taking a fancy to Muggle music, which she still currently listens to at Hogwarts on a daily basis on her Muggle mp3 device.
Fortunately Shay's paternal grandfather pulled through, but after growing accustomed to it over the years, Shay and her siblings still spend the majority of every summer with their maternal grandparents.
