Personality: Aria certainly lives up to her name, which means 'lion' in Hebrew. She's a real little spitfire, always willing to get stuck into an argument, and usually lets her actions do the talking. She's fiery and bolshy and she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. She's very plucky and resourceful and, despite being so argumentative, is a surprisingly good leader and has a natural, easy charisma that draws people to her.
She has a very protective older half-brother, Scott, who's on the teaching staff at Hogwarts, and who has been looking out for her since their father and his mother died a few years back, leaving the pair of them orphaned - Aria's mother passed away when she was born. This has left her more independent but also more naive, since Scott is determined to shield her from the nasty side of the world. She wants desperately to be experienced and to be in control of all situations, since she hates feeling unsure of herself, and usually hides feelings of shyness and insecurity (which are rare) with jokes and/or brashness.

Background: Aria was born after her Muggle father broke up with his first (magic) wife in a fit of rebellion and hooked up briefly with a Muggle woman, Anita Cashore. Her father promptly went and begged his first wife to take him back, honestly regretting everything, and she graciously accepted his apology. However, he'd left Anita pregnant and she died giving birth to Aria. She lived long enough to name her daughter and then sent her to her father. Kindly, her father's wife agreed to take her in, as she was unable to have any more children of her own and wanted a sibling for her 12-year-old son, Scott.
Despite having two Muggle parents, Aria had demonstrated conclusively by the age of three that she would be following in her step-mother and half-brother's footsteps by turning the family dog into a rabbit. Aria grew up in a happy family, and loved her father, brother, and stepmother very much. However, when she was eleven and Scott twenty-three, their parents were killed in a car accident and Scott was left to look after Aria during the holidays when she came back from Hogwarts. She went through a phase of moodiness and lashing out, but her friends and her brother got her through it by showing her that she wasn't alone.
She does well enough in class and is usually on-time with homeworks, although schoolwork does tend to play second fiddle to her other interests.
She's had an on-going feud against Kale Lestrange, a Slytherin in the same year as her, since they met in First Year. They argue and/or duel all the time, as she thinks he's a stuck-up, snobbish, autocratic git with serious supremacist issues; and he has equally unflattering views on her. Despite this top-level animosity, however, since last year (sixth year) Aria keeps finding herself snogging him in broom cupboards after fights and can never work out how. She knows that he likes Grace Longbottom, a good friend of hers, and knowing that Grace likes him back she's desperate not to hurt her friend. She's worried that she's starting to like Kale herself, but she fights it because she really doesn't want to hurt Grace. This constant worrying has made her rather short-tempered (at least, more than usual) over the last few months, and as a result she's getting into more arguments than ever and generally living up to her name spectacularly.
