I WALK THIS EMPTY STREET
Personality
DISLIKES: Quidditch, people distracting her when she's reading, people who are mean for no reason, big crowds, feeling stupid, feeling inadequate, failing, extreme heat, gardens where nothing grows except a small patch of grass, being out of her comfort zone, high heels.
LIKES: Books, gardening, cooking, being left alone to do those things, being with her family (and anyone she feels comfortable enough to be herself with), comfortable clothes, the rain, treacle toffee, myths and legends, cats.
BAD HABITS: Often doesn't hear when someone speaks to her if she's reading, tends to walk away from difficult situations, stays within her comfort zone, never puts anything away, leaves books open, walks into the house in muddy shoes, spends half her life in a daydream.
GOOD HABITS: Works hard, only says things that she means, tends to make sensible decisions, finishes jobs thoroughly, likes to be useful.
WEAKNESSES: Does things because she doesn't want to disappoint people, can't put a good book down, is hopeless at flying and quidditch, not very good at keeping secrets, has little or no fashion sense, is shy in unknown situations or large crowds.
STRENGTHS: Good at most of her lessons, gets good grades, tends to achieve the things she sets out to do, is good at growing plants and cooking, reads very quickly, has a very good memory, notices more than people give her credit for.
PERSONALITY: Lily is at least as much of a bookworm as her Aunt Hermione ever was. Not so much school books and encyclopaedias (although she works quite hard at school, so she reads those too, although not for pleasure), but stories; Lily devours them all, as many as she can get. Once she's got her head in a book, you have to shout in her ear or shake her to get her attention, and if she's reading something that has her gripped, she'll carry on thinking about it in between, and be in a complete dream, living in her world of fiction. She's generally well-behaved in lessons, but daydreaming is the one thing that gets her into trouble. In fact, Lily lives in her own world a lot of the time. She can be quite naïve and oblivious at times, but she isn't quite as absent-minded as people seem to think – she often picks up more of what's going on than anyone thinks.
Lily has long ago come to terms with the fact that she is unexceptional. She is not the most talented, or the most beautiful of her cousins, or even the cleverest (Victoire, Molly or Roxanne would have to take that prize). She does not play quidditch, or pranks, and she is not the perfect princess that people seem to expect Harry Potter's daughter to be. She's not fun and witty, like Dominique, or confident and slightly scary, like Lucy. It's not that she's not interested in girly stuff, like clothes and make up. She just doesn't understand how to get it right, and it seems like too mch effort to do it every day anyway. She likes to get dressed up for occasions, but she's completely helpless unless someone else gives her advice. She is clever, and she gets good marks, but it is by no means effortless – Lily has to work hard for those good marks. And because she wants to do well (because doing well in lessons is one of the few things she knows she can do), she does work hard, and reaps the benefits.
The other thing she likes and is extremely good at is gardening, and she loves to be out of doors with her hands in the dirt. Things grow from her fingers without her really doing anything, or so it seems to her.
Her biggest fear is not of failure, as some people might think (as she's something of a perfectionist), but of disappointing people. Her school marks, for instance, do not really bother her, because she doesn't really intend to do anything academic with her life, but she feels that if she failed, she would be letting her family down in some way. Not that she's ever felt pushed, or that her parents are disappointed in her, but inside herself, she feels that they would be if she did badly, as much for her as in her, which would be even worse, since she absolutely hates people feeling sorry for her. She doesn't think she could stand the look of surprise, puzzlement, pity and disappointment that she imagines would appear on people's faces if she didn't do as well as they expected of her.
However, she is not unhappy. Although she sometimes wistfully imagines being the confident, glamorous type, she's really quite happy and comfortable just being Lily. And when she does set her mind to something, she can be quite single-minded about it until she achieves it. Sometimes she surprises herself by what she can actually do when she stops thinking she can't, and just takes the bull by the horns.
She tends to get along well with people, in a quiet, not very outgoing sort of way. She's quite shy in big groups, and will tend to sit without saying much, but in smaller groups, she comes out of her shell, although she is quite easily intimidated, especially by people she sees as prettier or more fun than her. She finds it difficult to approach people or start a conversation off, although she's generally pleased when people come and talk to her, unless she's in the middle of a good book. She tends to assume that she is not remotely attractive to boys, and to be honest, she finds this something of a relief, since she prefers to be friends with boys than anything else, and wouldn't begin to know how to behave if a guy liked her. If it's her who likes a guy, she keeps it absolutely secret and admits it to nobody, and nobody ever guesses, since she doesn't let it change her behaviour.
Once she knows people well, she can actually be a bit of a chatterbox once she gets going, and that's when you realise that Lily's only quiet because she's shy (or reading), not because she has no thoughts and opinions of her own. In fact, she can often come out with things that seem surprisingly deep and sensible for someone who is outwardly still an innocent child.
She likes myths and legends and fairytales, both wizarding and muggle – partly from a childish point of view, because she's always adored them, but these days also with a more mature attitude that sees the meanings and origins of the folklore.
She is basically kind-hearted, although she can sometimes be tactless, simply because she lives with her head in the clouds, and doesn't always notice how other people are feeling. However, she would never deliberately hurt anyone.
ON THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
Incharacterextras
WAND: Sycamore, Elf hair, 11 inches
BROOMS: N/A
PET(s): A cat called Beedle, after Beedle the Bard.
LEAST FAVORITE CLASS : Defence Against the Dark Arts (mostly because she feels like everyone expects her to be good at it.)
FAVORITE CLASS: Herbology and History of Magic
WHERE THE CITY SLEEPS
Relationships
AMORTERIA: New-book-smell, spring air, and talcum powder.
MIRROR OF ERISED: To be confident enough to just be herself and do the things she wants to do, and to start a garden growing healing plants.
VERITASERUM:
1.Lily secretly wishes she was good at at least one of the things her family is famous for being good at.
2.She asked the Sorting Hat to put her in Slytherin, because she guessed that that was where Lucy was going (she wasn't sure about Hugo), and she was terrified of being by herself, without any of her cousins in her year. It laughed at her.
3.She doesn't really care about her grades. She only wants to do well because she thinks other people expect her to.
BOGGART: Getting old, and realising that her entire life has been a disappointment, to herself and to everyone else.
DEMENTOR: A game of hide-and-seek at the Burrow, with her cousins, when she found the best hiding place ever, and knew that nobody would ever find her. Nobody did, and nobody realised that they hadn't found her, and Lily stayed hidden for hours, not realising that the game had finished, gradually growing more and more scared and lonely, until she convinced herself that everyone else in the house had died, and she was the only one left.
PATRONUS: A random one, of a sunny spring day when she went outside to look for the seeds she'd planted with her mother, and found the green shoots coming through – it was the first time she really realised that when you planted something, something else could grow.
AND I’M THE ONLY ONE
Familyhistory
FATHER: He's Harry Fucking Potter. Come on, you've all heard of him.
MOTHER: Ginny Potter, nee Weasley. You've all heard about her too.
SIBLINGS: James Sirius Potter, 17, Gryffindor party boy.
Albus Severus Potter, 16, Slytherin cynic. Lily loves and despairs of them both equally.
OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY: The extended Weasley/Potter clan, whose names you should all know by now. Lily loves every member of her family, even the ones who are difficult to love, and she is most herself around them. This also includes Teddy Lupin, whom Lily sees in the light of another brother.
HISTORY: As the youngest child and only daughter of Harry and Ginny Potter, Lily was in the public eye from the day she was born. She neither likes not dislikes this, although it's sometimes irritating, but simply accepts it as one of those things. Her childhood was happy and not particularly eventful. Her parents kept the attention away from her most of the time, and she only realised how famous her parents were quite gradually. She didn't know the full story of the war until after she came to Hogwarts; in fact, when she first realised that her family were famous, she thought it was because of her mother's quidditch.
She loved books from an early age, and would be found fascinatedly turning the pages long before she could actually read the words. She learnt to read by osmosis; nobody ever officially taught her, she just picked it up by being read stories. However, she was also happy out of doors, grubbing around in the mud, or running around with her brothers and cousins. When James went to Hogwarts, she missed him, but it was when Albus also went that she was really upset, because she was left behind alone. As a small child, she always wanted to tag along after her brothers, and do the things they did; however, after Albus left for Hogwarts, this changed a little.
Alone at home, Lily discovered her own personality a bit more. As a little girl, she had tended to be whiny, crying at the least small thing. She grew out of this in the two years between Albus starting Hogwarts and her starting, and now she rarely cries about anything. She discovered that without them to follow, she could pursue her own interests, and that it was actually a relief not to have to play quidditch any more, or play the games her brothers liked. Lily preferred her books, and her garden, and when James and Albus did come home, she found that she was much happier to let them do their own thing, and for her to do hers.
She adores her parents and always has done. She trusts them completely, and is especially close to her mother. She has always treated Ginny as a confidante, and even now has a tendency to tell her everything without thinking, because she trusts her, and is so used to doing it that it never occurs to her that she might be telling her mother secrets other people wouldn't want her to know.
When it came to her own turn to go to Hogwarts, Lily was scared. She did not believe a word some members of her family told her about the ordeals she would have to go through; what scared her was the idea of having to go up in front of everyone, and have your true character revealed. She started in the same year as Lucy and Hugo, and desperately wanted to be in the same house as one of them, so she would have a friend, but the Sorting Hat had other ideas.
However, she has got over her fear of school. She is good at her lessons and works hard, getting excellent results, and she is generally happy in the comfortable little niche she's found herself. Although she loves it in fiction, she doesn't really like drama in real life, and does her best to keep out of it.
