GOOD HABITS: Has excellent manners, gives people generous gifts, protects those he is close to, is kind to animals, always praises a job well done, remembers names and faces
WEAKNESSES: Cigars, his wife and daughters, his stubbornness, his reluctance/inability to see when he is wrong or to acknowledge that there is another side to the argument, his occasional close-mindedness.
STRENGTHS: His determination, his sharp brain, his ability to appear half asleep when he is actually paying attention, his force of character, his strict morals and his ability to stick to them, his love for his family.
PERSONALITY: "Wily" is the first word that springs to mind about Kaius Anglesey. He is outwardly a kindly, well-spoken, bumbling, slightly forgetful middle-aged gentleman, who loves a good joke. However, the more vague and sleepy Kaius appears to be, the more alert he probably is. He adores subterfuge and deviousness, and as a result is something of a prankster, even at his age. He has a slightly childish sense of humour in many ways. He will never do anything the straightforward way if he can do it the clever way, and he loves to fool people. He can also be extremely manipulative, but always with a genial smile that makes it difficult for anyone to mind his manipulation. He likes to get what he wants, and he's rather good at it, whether that is his family marrying the people he thinks they should marry, or getting the last chocolate out of the box. Lies, guilt trips, mind games, and plain ruthless elbow-work are all things he's good at.
He is quite old-fashioned in his views. The man, in his opinion, should be the head of the family, and he believes in pureblood values and money and status. He dislikes people he sees as 'jumped up' - he is extremely conservative and likes traditional power structures. He believes that purebloods are superior, and that any witch or wizard who involves themselves in the muggle world is lowering themselves. The current open-mindedness of society is, in his view, a sorry state of affairs. However, he also has perfect manners and detests rudeness, so he would never actually allow these views to affect how he spoke to, say, Muggle-born witches and wizards. He will smile to their faces and grumble behind their backs.
Despite his less pleasant tendencies, he is actually a very kind-hearted, generous person. He adores his family, including his extended family. He would do anything for his wife, and his daughters are the apples of his eye. He can be quite strict with them, but only because he wants the very best for them. He will never think of them as anything but little girls, and he happily and naively assumes that they are both virgins. He feels a great sense of responsibility to his family and would always do whatever he could to protect any member of it. An insult to any Anglesey or almost-Anglesey is an insult to Kaius. This sense of responsibility extends to his illegitimate daughter, Cisca, of whom he is quite fond, although her existence makes him uncomfortable.
He loves children and animals, although he believes that both should be well-trained. He quite likes a bit of high-spiritedness, but real bad behaviour will not be tolerated.
He is a passionate man and gets deeply excited about the things he believes in and almost religious about the things he enjoys. he loves beauty and nature and keeps a pair of magically enhanced binoculars by his window so that he can watch the birds.
He loves life's little luxuries. He likes good food and alcohol and has a well-stocked library and wears expensively made clothes. He also enjoys taking long walks in the rain, and looking at his garden, which, unlike his study, is immaculate.
Very few people are aware of just how manipulative he is - most people see the kind, strictly-moraled, slightly vague but passionate, smiling gentleman.

He lost his mind completely when Italus was also killed a few years later and died not long after.

HISTORY: Kaius was the youngest son of a traditional, pureblood family. His parents never took a great deal of notice of him - his father was pre-occupied with his oldest brother Italus, and his mother was pre-occupied with herself. Kaius admired and looked up to his older brothers, but they never took much notice of him either. Italus was a vigorous, opinionated young man, very busy with the business of being a pureblood heir, and Julius tended to retreat into his books and ignore his family. The member of the family Kaius was closest to was his little sister. Although she was three years younger than him, they played together constantly. In his eyes, she was a beautiful princess, and he would go to the ends of the earth to protect her. However, she was also a lively, happy little girl who was a lot of fun to be with. When she died, Kaius was absolutely devastated, and has never really got over the grief.
He was an active, boisterous boy who liked to be out-of-doors and was often in mischief. As a result of being ignored by his parents and older brothes, he developed attention-seeking behaviour. He would often behave selfishly, simply to get attention, and he put a lot of his creative energy into thinking of ways to get the things he wanted and to make people do what he wanted them to do. He would make up stories to do this, and if he was ignored, the stories would get more and more preposterous. He always felt overlooked, and as a result, always aimed to do great things and make his mark on the world.
At Hogwarts, he was sorted into Slytherin, where he certainly fitted, despite his outward kindness and generosity - his ambition, and talent for lying and manipulation made him the perfect Slytherin. His school days were relatively uneventful. He was extremely bright, but never worked to the best of his abilities, so he did averagely well, unlike his academically gifted older brother, Julius. Again, unlike Julius, he never made the quidditch team, although the way he talks about his old flying days now, you would imagine that he had. He was cheeky and loved a good joke, things that often got him into trouble, and as he grew up, he became something of a ladies man. He was popular with girls, although he never settled down with any one person. He always had strict morals, but his slightly chauvinistic view of the world meant that the only girls he considered worthy of his real respect and consideration were the ones he couldn't have - promiscuous girls lost his respect instantly and were therefore fair game.
Like Julius, he took off to the continent after he finished school, but unlike Julius, he did not go to research the family history. After several years of wild living and excesses, he returned home, having run out of money. However, although Kaius' experiences involved a lot more alcohol and women than Julius' had, he was certainly not untouched by history and culture. He felt a passionate attachment to their family traditions (although he wasn't as interested in names and dates as Julius) and was part of a slightly pretentious crowd who liked to go in for 'high culture' - which meant high wizarding culture - as opposed to the trashy stuff they saw as belonging to the lower classes. He looks back on his wild youth with a mixture of disapproval and fondness - he will tell the younger generation that he was a terrible young man full of terrible morals, but he quite likes to tell the stories, nonetheless. He believes that a certain degree of wildness can be excused in youth - or at least, in young men. He would be appalled if he thought his daughters were behaving in that way.
On his return to England he went into the family publishing business relatively happily - he'd always known he would, and he was proud of the business. However, he did not really settle down, but went on living as he had before, becoming something of a womaniser, although he continued in his tendency to lose respect for women who did not refuse him. The most significant affair was with a woman called Artemisia Morrigan. Kaius cared for her no more than for any of the rest, but Artemisia was different, in that she bore him a child. This caused quite a stir among the older members of the family, although it was carefully hushed up. The family wanted Kaius to marry Layla Hunter, the daughter of old friends of theirs, and a girl Kaius had known all his life. Kaius was quite happy with this arrangement, as he was fond of Layla, and the pregnancy was an unwanted complication. Artemisia was bribed to keep quiet with a large sum of money, and the marriage to Layla went ahead, although Kaius did not admit to her that he had a child on the way until after they were married. This caused quite a storm, but after much argument, Layla forgave him, on the strict vow that now that he was married, there would be no affairs and no infidelity. This is a promise Kaius has kept.
When the child, Lycisca, was born, Kaius offered (generously, he thought, and with Layla’s agreement) to adopt the baby, on the conditions that she took his name, was passed off as his wife’s child, and had no further contact with her real mother. Artemisia, however, refused this offer. Kaius continued to provide for his daughter, and to see her occasionally, and in many ways he loves her, but her existence makes him uncomfortable. For somebody who believes in familial duty, he feels that she is evidence of his failures. He would like to draw her into his proper family, but does not see how this is possible now.
His married life has otherwise been happy. He adores his daughters, although he is also quite strict with them, and although it was an arranged marriage, over the years he has fallen very much in love with Layla. The tragedies in his family hit him hard, of course, but the support of his wife saw him through them. He recovered from the death of his oldest brother, and then supported Julius through the loss of his wife and two sons, bringing the remaining two Anglesey brothers much closer together. He now considers himself more or less the head of the family, since Julius has withdrawn from public life, and he takes his responsibilities seriously. He sees Imogen Hunter as a part of that family, and has supported her and her son since the death of her husband. However, he still secretly looks up to Julius, and sometimes looks to him for guidance, although he would never admit it.
He has a tendency to see what he wants to see, so he believes that his daughters are perfect princesses. He sees his niece's dyslexia as something to be pitied, but also slightly ashamed of, and tries not to speak of it except in a whisper. He is proud of his nephews, but also believes them to be perfect gentlemen - although he is far more indulgent of 'high spirits' in them. However, he does expect that by a certain age, they will start settling down and behaving properly.
He lives a comfortable life, still working for the family business although not nearly as hard as Julius works on it. He has a large old house in Lancashire, where he lives in state, and enjoys entertaining guests. He expects his family to visit him regularly, and gets extremely offended if they don't.
