Personality: Maria may look like a sweet girl, but looks can be decieving. She's foul mouthed, can often have a bad attitude and can sometimes be very rude. She doesn't mean to be at all, however; but uses it as her defence mechanisim. She's very brave, and if you are the right person, she can be very kind hearted. All she's ever wanted (secretly) is a chance.

Background:Maria's real parents are unknown. All she has of them is a an old locket that her mother left with her. inside the locket is a baby picture, which is believed to be Maria. The reason her parents gave her to an orphanage is unknown as well.
She was a foster child and has been between a lot of homes basically 'auditioning' for adoption. When she was eight (the time she started to show her magical abilities), her last home before she was officially adopted, she was heavily abused. She had been taken in by Muggles--'The Smiths'--who were astounded to see her magical abilites and contributed it to the 'devil's play.'
She ran away from the home and back to her stationed orphanage where at first, they didn't believe her about the Smith's, but once she showed them the scars and wounds (the iron burn) she'd received, they removed her officially from there.
A year later, she'd lost all hopes of being adopted and having a family, and couldn't explain what was going on with her. She was doing things she couldn't explain and making things happen. One day, a woman came in with an older girl and asked to speak to her. The woman, Ameila Munroe, turned out to be a witch, who'd seen Maria playing with her magic and offered to take the little girl in.
Maria, being as untrusting as she is, refused at first, but Amelia didn't give up that easily. She built a relationship with this young girl and soon, Maria allowed herself to be adopted. Now she's highly protective over Amelia, her mother, and the rest of her now 'family'. Even though, deep down, Maria always feels like she will be tossed away again.
