PERSONALITY: Ellen is not someone whom it would be advisable to take on in a fight. Combining tenacity, physical strength, an innate sense of right and wrong and a fair dollop of sheer pig-headedness in one person means that, if she sets her mind to it, she can be fairly - though not entirely - undefeatable. She enjoys arguing with people - mostly Callan - 'just for fun', as she generally finds it more interesting than general conversation: this says a lot about Ellen's approach to the world in general.
She does not have many similarities with any of her siblings, but cares for them all deeply, and tried to protect them as best she could whilst growing up. Perhaps as a result of this, she has a very 'mother hen' mentality, and is always collecting waifs and strays to care for.
Ellen is extremely loyal to those she loves, particularly her bothers and sister, her husband and her daughter. She always has to be active, both mentally and physically, so her life is often habitually chaotic as a matter of course.

They often bring her into work and leave her with the secretaries and trainee Aurors, which she completely love. She's very enthusiastic and full of energy - definitely takes after her mother in that respect!

HISTORY:
Ellen is, to put it bluntly, the polar opposite of her little sister, Gloria.
As the oldest of four children, Ellen was thrown into the nurturing role extremely early on in her life. She took it upon herself to try to protect her younger siblings from her family's activities regarding the Dark Arts, and did so with varying success, as when she was old enough to be sent away to school, Gloria was only two.
Displaying dazzlingly precocious magical talent, it was clear that Ellen was destined for great things from an early age, though few would have predicted that she would have entered the Auror Department at the Ministry of Magic, especially not based on her family's history. Yet she did, rebelling against the Chaucer family in a much more subtle way than her aunt, Noelle.
Ellen attended Beauxbatons school in France from the age of eleven, and can therefore speak French fluently. She understood her mother's reasons for wanting her to be educated away from the family at the time - it was the time of the entire 'Noelle situation' as it was euphemistically termed, and Ellen looked up to Noelle a great deal, though she was perceived as a bad influence by the family elders. Gloria later followed in Ellen's footsteps, but without much knowledge of prior events. Ellen no longer has contact with Noelle, something she regrets to this way, but, in her defence, was relatively powerless at the age of eleven.
At Beauxbatons, away from her smothering family, Ellen flourished, becoming a confident, independent and attractive young woman. However, she returned to Britain to attend Hogwarts for her sixth and seventh years, in order to sit her NEWTs, as the NEWT qualifications are not offered at Beauxbatons. It was at Hogwarts that she met her future husband, Callan Urquhart. However, throughout her two years in the school, they detested each other with a passion, and argued and bickered constantly, leading many to think that they'd be more likely to kill each other than anything else. The extent to their romantic liasions with each other at this stage was the odd drunken snog, generally preceded by an argument and followed by a slap. They willingly lost contact after graduation, neither ever wanting to see the other again.
Ellen originally took an internship at the Daily Prophet, cutting her journalistic teeth on crime stories, in which the names of family associates occurred with depressing regularity. She made sure to make a special effort to keep in contact with Michael, Robert and Gloria in this time, just in case they ever needed help. Although Ellen enjoyed her job at the newspaper, she never found it intellectually stimulating or particularly challenging in any way, and so when a boyfriend - she can't remember which one: she was tall, leggy, confident and attractive, so there were more than a few! - suggested jokily that she retrain as an Auror, the idea stuck, although the boyfriend didn't.
At the age of twenty, she entered the Auror department, full of excitement and grand aspirations, only to discover with dismay that her new boss was none other than Cal Urquhart, and that since Hogwarts he had only grown more confident, more attractive and more bloody irritating. The two, both still proud and feisty, continued to clash ferociously. However, to the onlookers, the motive no longer seemed pure enmity, but rather shoddily suppressed sexual tension. Unfortunately - as Ellen and Cal perceived it at the time, at least - when working together the pair produced consistently excellent results, and so were made partners.
What happened next was nothing short of a borderline cliché. Whilst working undercover, they were forced to pose as a couple, and one thing led to another and they ended up kissing passionately against a wall. As much as Ellen tried to persuade herself that that act was just a result of hormones, lust and not having had sex for ages, the feelings she was subconsciously developing for Callan were very much real, and vice versa.
Both in denial, their relationship made no progression until the Christmas party two years after Ellen had moved to the division. Under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol, the high of having solved a high profile case and enchanted mistletoe, the two finally succumbed to temptation and kissed for a third time. Ellen left Cal's house the next morning, with flaming cheeks but without her underwear. Highly embarrassed at the unexpected turn of events, especially with the rumours rife around the office about Ellen and Callan's tempestuous 'friendship', neither was incautious enough to pursue the potentiality of a romantic relationship with a former sworn enemy. They managed to get to know each other civilly, and what emerged as the result was a beautiful if stormy friendship, refreshing in it's unconventionality.
It was one year later, again at the Christmas party but in a slightly more balanced way that the pair finally - much to the delight of their suffering workmates and the surprise of their former schoolfriends - the two finally officially got together.
They were married two years later, at the age of twenty-five, and the next year a beautiful baby girl followed, whom they named Eilidh. Now aged almost five, both Cal and Ellen dote on the girl, and on quieter days she can often be found toddling around the Auror office in the care of one of the secretaries.
Since Eilidh's birth, Ellen has had two miscarriages, about which only her husband knows. They continue to try for another child.
Ellen and Cal still work together and, uh, debate enthusiastically over certain issues, but they are very much in love, despite occasional outward appearances. Neither would have it any other way.
