PERSONALITY: Daphne is basically a cheerful, happy person and there’s rarely ever a day when anyone sees her with a long face. She loves to smile and tries to cheer up everyone around her. But that is only as long as you don’t mess with her family. She could be your deadliest enemy if you cross them.
But she wasn’t always like this. There were times when her whole life revolved around being an ideal daughter who would be approved of by her parents. She never got it, but that didn’t stop her from trying. It continued onto her Hogwarts years and the only time she let her guard down was when she was with Theo. Because no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t act stuck up with him. It took her seven years and a lot of mistakes to realize that she was in love and she had many fights with herself before she was able to accept that she was feeling so un-lady like an emotion as love, something she had been taught to shun.
Her whole life changed after that and she found that what she had so far been holding onto as the most vital things in life were just her own defenses against living a life and taking risks. The after war was a tough time for both of them but they survived and Daphne, to this day, swears she’d never have made it if it wasn’t for Theo beside her. Theo and her are the ‘still sickeningly in love’ couple, and Daphne knows she’s lucky to have his love. She doesn’t hesitate to show that she still adores her husband, leading to many raised eyebrows and a few disgusted expressions (especially from her children) but she just shrugs them away.
She doesn’t worry about anything, having learnt to keep calm in the face of chaos and having lived through wars and the aftermath, she isn’t easily shaken by anything and her standard solution would be a hug accompanied with a bowl of ice cream or mint tea. On a normal day, Daphne would be found humming to herself, cooking a meal in the kitchen as she gazes out the window at her garden.

HISTORY: Daphne’s life, as far as her memory goes, has always revolved around family. First the one she was born in and then, the one she made for herself and there is no doubt in her mind that she loves the second one better.
In the days of her childhood, all she knew were her governess, her nursery, the toys her parents ‘bestowed’ on her and the occasional visit from either of them. When she first saw Astoria, she thought she was another toy for her to play with. And that is how she treated Astoria for a long time; a cherished doll that had to be looked after and loved. But she was always careful not to show too much affection; it wasn’t in the Pureblood girl guidebook. Her mother took a little more interest in her since she was the elder sister and she learnt all the ways of a Pureblood girl sincerely at her mother’s knee.
Her father, the few memories she had of him, are mostly at parties she was allowed to attend. She’d imagined him as a God, the sun, glowing and bright, around whom everything revolved. She’d wanted to marry someone as powerful as him when she was a kid.
Astoria was her pride and joy; she considered her younger sister her sole responsibility though they were merely a few years apart. She took a lot of time to teach her the proper etiquette and they used to have pretend situations where Daphne would correct a few things Astoria did wrong; she could never settle for anything less than the very best, when it came to her sister. Daphne regrets ever teaching her those things to date; she wishes she had been rebellious enough to tell her that love was more important than any prestige ever could be.
All her life, Daphne had never been alone; she had always had her governess, and then her sister; never her parents and as much as she tried, she couldn’t bring herself to hate them. The first time she boarded the Hogwarts express was when she felt most lonely. There was no Astoria around and she felt like crawling back into herself. She was normally a cheerful yet restrained child, but she felt positively shy and reclusive when she saw the sheer number of people. But her mild manners soon got her a lot of friends and she almost forgot about her home. She was placed in Slytherin not for any trait but because that was just where she would be, no questions asked.
The one person who intrigued her more than anyone in her house was Theodore Nott, a silent and grave boy who she was sure liked him. She tried to figure him out, she even went so far as to go out of her way to talk to him, but at the end of the day, she would be more confused than before. Her thoughts so consumed by Theodore, she had no time to fawn over either Draco or Blaise like the rest of the girls in her year did. She thought they were being made a big fuss of, though she didn’t say it out loud. But it helped her talk to the two of them like normal humans and possibly friends. She was closer to Draco of the two.
When the Dark Lord came back and things turned dark, she held onto the affection she held for her family; it was the only thing that helped her stay sane. She decided to never join the Dark side when one day she saw through a gap in the door, her father Crucio her mother because she refused to join the Dark Lord. And of course there still was Theo, but she was annoyed with him by then. She knew he liked her but he hadn’t done anything about it. It wasn’t as if she was going to reject him; she had made it as clear as she could. Still the deaths all around her shook her to the core; it was when she realized that all the stony exterior she put up was just that; a veil. She was caring and loving, there was no wall that could hide that. But by then, she had built herself in her own tomb and she didn’t know how to help. So she stayed in the shadows, doing nothing; supporting neither side, hoping her family or Theo wouldn’t either.
By the time seventh year came and Theo asked her out, she had lost all the pretences and while she would have denied him at least twice a few years ago, she agreed happily, and she’s never regretted it. It was the first decision she made with her heart and not her mind. Things got a lot better for her after that and when they graduated, Theo proposed and she accepted. Daphne knew her parents weren’t very pleased with her choice; they had hoped she would marry Draco, who had been considered the most eligible back then, but as far as Daphne was concerned, it was well nigh impossible. But her parents didn’t object much because Theo was from a reputed Pureblood family with good prospects.
She guessed Theo hated his job at the Ministry. When she learnt that he was staying in it for her and their unborn kids, she fell in love with him all over again. The day Theo asked her to abort the babies was one of her worst memories, and that was the only day she ever cried herself to sleep. Theo came around soon and she promised Theo that she wouldn’t tell Chloe or Seb that, and she forgot it right that instant.
Daphne had always wanted to become an Unspeakable, the idea had thrilled her; but after Chloe and Seb were born, she decided to stay at home to give her kids the love she had never received from her own mother. It makes her ecstatic to see that Theo loves their children, given that he was so against them in the beginning. After both of them went off to Hogwarts, Daphne decided to do what she did best; help people live a life filled with love. She runs a relationship counseling center and loves her job.
With her children, she is the doting mother but she’s unintentionally lenient with Seb because she has seen that he tends to move to the edge when it gets to be too much. She tries to help Chloe not make the mistakes she made and is pleased with her happy disposition.
Her affection extends to her sister’s family and though she had a grudge towards Draco, she tries to not let it show. With Astoria, she feels guilty. It was she who taught her about protocols and since then, she had discovered that it wasn’t life. She only wishes Astoria would see that too.
She dotes on all the Malfoy kids, inviting them over as much as possible and spending time with them. Of her three nephews and nieces, she is most partial to Damien, because she had seen from the time he was born that he was the most neglected one. She is a pushover with him and would let him get away with things she wouldn’t be so easy about with Scorpius or Ella.
