Personality: Bright and witty, Jack is a guy out to have fun. He's got a brilliant sense of humour and is naturally very warm and open. He's content with life but he's a bit of a thrill-seeker (hence his work with dragons) and he believes in living life to the full. He can be reckless and tends to speak before he thinks, but he can always be relied upon to stick up fearlessly for those he believes are right, and will do anything to defend his Gryffindor students. He carries responsibility surprisingly well, which you wouldn't expect when you first meet him due to his apparent lack of ability to take anything seriously.
Likes: dragons, danger, bagels, blueberries, dogs, lots of noise, a sense of natural chaos.
Dislikes: two-faced people, melon, boredom, too much order.
Strengths: can make anybody feel comfortable around him, good at drawing quiet people out of their shells, very funny, quick reactions, good at defusing tense situations, can make fun out of most situations.

Background: After graduating from Hogwarts with (somehow) top grades, Jack headed off to Romania to work with dragons. He returned to England when his father (whom he adores) got ill, and when his father died he stuck around to keep an eye on his mother, as his many younger brothers have no interest in helping out whatsoever. He applied to teach at Hogwarts, having done brilliantly in his DADA NEWT, and was quite surprised (but thrilled) to receive the job. After being promoted to Head of Gryffindor, he showed himself to be a great Head of House because he can make any student feel comfortable around him, and always fights dreadfully hard to stop them getting in too much trouble - but he's also fair and more than willing to hand out punishments if he thinks the students deserve them.
Roleplay sample: Jack hurried into the Gryffindor common room, wand in one hand and a rather irate-looking owl in the other.
"Okay," he said, glaring around at all the students present. "Which one of you wants to own up to turning my owl pink?"
He fixed them all with a death-stare, trying to hide his amusement as his owl ruffled its feathers in embarrassment, hoping one would own up mostly so that he could prove to the other teachers that he did take a firm line with his students on occasion.

BAD HABITS: finds inappropriate things funny, procrastinates, sometimes gives students the benefit of the doubt even when he knows they're guilty, gets to the end of his tether and loses his temper spectacularly, often finds it hard to take things seriously.
GOOD HABITS: listens very carefully when someone has a problem and offers thoughtful solutions, does anything he can to get his students out of trouble, perseveres with things until he completes them, exercises when he's stressed, doesn't let things get to him too much.
