Personality: Emily likes to have fun, and lives her life without too many worries; at least, she tries to. She is generally quite laid back and cheerful, and she has a 'young and vulnerable' air to her, which can lead people to underestimate her slightly. She can be thoughtless (and would propbably forget her head if it wasn't screwed on) but she also has a hot temper, which can flash out at unexpected times. She tends not to take things too seriously, but that doesn't mean she isn't capable of being serious - it's just a side that doesn't show as often.
She is laid back about most things (there are some notable exceptions) and can be a little lazy about work, but when it comes down to it, she'll always get things done eventually.
She hates it when people judge her, although she pretends not to care what anyone thinks, and when people (her family for instance) suggest that she might want to calm down a bit, her stock answer is 'it's just a bit of fun.'
She is impetuous and impulsive, and likes to follow her instincts. Sometimes, that gets her into trouble.
She never knows what to do or say about other people's problems, but she's quite good at doing or saying the right thing by mistake (although she's equally capable of putting her foot in it). She knows about that habit of hers though, and these days, she does her best not do it.
She is convinced that she only wants to have fun, not to fall in love, and firmly resists any idea of anything more serious, even if secretly, deep down, she'd quite like to find someone.

Background: Emily's father is a Muggle-born wizard, and her mother a half blood. They never had very much money, but did their best by their three daughters. As a kid, Emily was the 'boy' of the family - she loved playing outside and climbing trees, preferred diggers to dolls, and resisted any attempts to get her into a dress.
Then she hit puberty and turned into a teenage girl. She discovered boys and makeup and heels, and suddenly started wearing dresses and skirts all the time - the shorter the better, to her parents' dismay.
She was a bit of a rebel at school, and caused quite a bit of chaos, which is why she was so surprised to be offered the job of Care of Magical Creatures Professor (at short notice after the old Professor left, due to health reasons, half way through last term - she's literally just starting her job now). The idea of Emilsy Marsdon as a teacher is just plain funny! But she managed to get quite a bit of experience in the intervening years, spending a year in the Indian jungle, recording magical species there, six months tracking demiguises on the Mongolian steppe, and a further six months working on a dragon reservation in the Hebrides. The funny bit is that she never really thought about being a teacher, and fell into the Magical Craetures bit by accidents (it was mainly an excuse to travel) so although she has plenty of enthusiasm, it isn't exactly her calling. She just hasn't worked out what her calling is.
Since she arrived at Hogwarts again, several people have already mistaken her for one of her own pupils. It's beginning to wear thin.
She gets on reasonably with her family. Her parents don't quite approve of her, but they love her anyway, even though they worry about her. She is also close to her older sister Diana, and adores her little niece, but argues a lot with her younger sister Olivia.
