Personality: 'So sharp you'll cut yourself,' her dad says to her regularly. Maddy is bright, curious and very, very stubborn. She decided a while ago that she wanted to be an investigative journalist, and finding out that she is a witch hasn't changed that. She can be a bit of a madcap and isn't afraid of breaking rules, although she prefers to do it in a way that won't get her caught. She is drawn to anything that seems 'interesting' - ie, that is totally different from anything she knows. She says exactly what she means and means exactly what she says, doesn't take no for an answer, and is always prepared to argue her case (she quite enjoys it).

Background: Maddy comes from a doting, well-off background. They have a big old house in the countryside, and she has a pony and a treehouse in the garden and bookshelves full of books in every room - old-style, British wealth.
She's not exactly spoilt, because she's the oldest of four, but she is a little bit sheltered. The thing is, she knows she's sheltered, and does her best to rectify the fact.
She loves her family (although she gets irritated with her younger siblings), and they adore her and are very proud of everything she does - including going to Hogwarts, although it took a while to persuade them it was all real (Maddy herself believed it instantly).
Roleplay sample: Maddy stared around the vast room in fascination. This was beyond anything she had ever imagined, and that was saying something. And it was her school for the next seven years. She turned to the child next to her in the line, and smiled at them.
"Hi. I'm Maddy. What's your name? This is pretty amazing, isn't it? Or are your parents a witch and a wizard too, so you know all about it?"
She paused and waited expectantly for the replies.
