That's generally taken to be a polite way of ending letters to someone you don't know very well. To avoid more misunderstandings, though, I'll stop using it.

Actually, I was given the impression 'sincerely' is the politest way of ending letters to someone you don't know very well. Yours tends to imply you belong to them which is just plain untrue.
