Dear Professor,
I just want to start off by saying you are the most lovely, charming, understanding professor to ever grace the halls of Hogwarts. That's why you are everyones favorite teacher.
Lets just say in theory, one of your students just so happens to sleep in (for a very valid and serious reason) and misses the class where said student had to turn in their essay. Would it be possible, out of the kindness of that large heart you have to let them turn in their essay by the end of the day?
I thought I would ask, considering you're the best professor and all.

Really now? I would keep the compliments to a minimum next time as flattery doesn't really work on me. It sounds as though you're planning on sleeping in and hoping to hand in your essay later on in the day, in which case I can't seem to summon much sympathy for your circumstances.
You'd be best to hand in your essay on time in the morning unless you want substantial marks deducted for lack of punctuality. Extensions are granted only in the case of extreme situations, and I don't believe you have one of those from what I've heard so far. And don't bother making something up.

Really, really. Well I think it should, though everything I said was the truth of course. Why would I make such flattering things up, hottest professor here? And I would never dream of missing your class on purpose, really. I missed a quidditch practice and wasn't shown much sympathy when a bludger hit me. We're going for that
A bludger to the head is extreme, isn't it Hottest Professor Ever?

Well, I can think of a few reasons, none of them too valid, to be completely frank with you. If you had a bludger to the head and it was serious, you would be in the hospital wing right now instead of composing these letters to me, not to mention that Elsie Madame James would have informed me of your condition. Again, do not bother coming up with a better excuse. You really could be spending this valuable time finishing up your essay instead of wasting it asking for an extension when you clearly do not have an emergency of any sort on your hands to not hand it in on time.

I take back what I said about you being hot then. Our relationship is over
Also, her medicine just works wonders and I was healed. But you know, still exhausted from the blow to the head. That does things to you, a bludger to the head. And maybe she forgot. The essay is actually finished. because I wrote it inbetween writing these letters So I'm just going to attach it to the owl and hope for the best.
