FULL NAME:
ETYMOLOGY:
Malloy: Anglicized form of Ó Maolmhuaidh. Ó Maolmhuaidh means "descendent of Maolmhuadh", Maolmhuadh being a given name meaning "proud chief" derived from Gaelic maol meaning "chief" and muadh meaning "proud, noble". The Hartleys offered him to take their last name, but Malloy was the closest he could be to his parents, so he declined. He occasionally slips up and calls himself Travis Hartley, though.[/ul]

LIKES:
DISLIKES:
STRENGTHS:
DRIVEN- He wants to make something of himself. This is mostly because he feels like he took too much from Brandon and Johanna, and he wants to show them that he's capable of living on his own. He wants to show the world that he's capable of living on his own. (He really just wants to show himself). He got decent grades in school, mostly because the things he wants to do with his life (is driven about) didn't necessarily correlate with classes in school. He did alright in History of Magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts, but that was all he really put effort into. He's more driven about mastering his magic and making sure that people get what they deserve.
ADAPTABLE- He thinks it might come from being adopted, but Travis has always been good at just taking what comes to him and making into something great. It's part of the reason why he's able to buy things at thrift stores and secondhand shops- he's great at reusing things. He's also great at being put into situations that would be difficult for others- living in a studio flat twenty miles from the Ministry and still having to get up at five-thirty on Thursdays, not being able to go to certain Quidditch games for fear of getting his ears hexed off, the like. It's a bit of a weakness at times, because he doesn't protest (or realize) unfair situations that he's been put in as much as he could. Except when it comes to his job. That's when he's a stickler for getting what he deserves.

WEAKNESSES:
BIG MOUTH- Kind of ties in with the above, but in certain social situations, he cannot keep his mouth shut. He doesn't have a really good radar for what people are capable of hearing- this is one of the few things that is impeding his promotion. Of course, he wouldn't have much of a chance to insult the witnesses if he were in the jury, but the Ministry feel like he'd find a way.
DISORGANIZED- Despite his goal to succeed, he's rather messy at home. He does have a filing cabinet, thank you very much, Minister, but he always somehow ends up storing papers and such in the wrong cabinet. He had a horrible experience with a woman in which he lost her underwear in a case file and a thong plopped out on the table when he was handing the transcript in and, well, the rest of the story is pretty obvious. He's gotten better at remembering what sort of files go in what drawers, but he's still a little pathetic at it sometimes.
ARROGANT- He doesn't like admitting that he's said something wrong, even though he does it quite often. So when he does, he generally just blusters around like a fool until Nikolai (or someone else who's close to him, I'd gather) points out that he looks like an idiot. Unfortunately, no one's had the heart to do that with his and Brigid's relationship, so he continuously acts like an idiot around her.

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
GUILTY/FRUGAL- What Travis wants to do most in his life is make up for the difficult time he put his adoptive parents through. He feels like such a burden, he's willing to do anything to make it up to them. If Johanna weren't so successful now, he'd send them his paycheck every month. As it is, he tries to give Nik and Valentin an allowance, to take the pressure off of their parents. He knows how much taking care of a child costs, and he wants to make it as easy as possible on the people who raised him for no reason but out of the the goodness of their hearts. He tries to keep himself with enough money that he doesn't have to ask them for help.
IMMATURE- As much as he likes to act the bigger man, he's still twenty-two. He says stupid things, refuses to admit saying stupid things, gets in fights over those stupid things, etc. He loves hanging out with Nik and shooting the shit- he still makes fun of him for the same things he's made fun of him for since they were little. He enjoys making fun of pompous people in the Wizengamot when they're not looking, and he's not above drawing satirical comics in the margins of his transcripts.
NOSTALGIC- "Remember when…" might just be one of Travis' favorite phrases, and he says it far too often. Whether with his friends, with Nik, or even to himself as he's trying to remember his parents, he likes living in the past. He's got a fairly decent memory, having trained to remember the little things people say during a hearing, and he uses it. This bites him in the arse, though, because he's held one too many grudges due to something he thought he heard someone say.
SELF-RIGHTEOUS- He generally believes that he's right, and he doesn't like admitting if he's not (especially when the other person is decidedly right). He tends to think that he's made the only morally right decision- at least, he voices this opinion. He regrets only a few things, and he'd never admit to regretting them.
IMPULSIVE- He often says exactly what he thinks, when he thinks it. He mostly does this for amusement, though occasionally he says things for lack of understanding that they're bad. He tends to think before he acts a bit more than he thinks before he speaks, but when it comes to women, both skills go out the door.

FATHER:
BRANDON HARTLEY- (adoptive father), 44, halfblood. He's the Representative of England on the Wizarding World Historian Council. He very much loves his job - history is his passion - but he also loves his family to death, too. He took in Travis at one of the most inconvenient times - Johanna was pregnant with their first child, and neither were earning much money at that point - rather than palming him off to another relative, which Travis is forever grateful for, and more than a little guilty about. Brandon's a very accepting fellow, and isn't big on judgment at all. Travis doesn't understand this, but loves him for it anyway, because he understands when Travis starts getting moody around Christmastime. [/ul]
MOTHER:
JOHANNA ZHIVAGO- (adoptive mother), 42, pureblood. She's a fashion designer in the muggle and wizarding world, and she kind of scares Travis sometimes. Travis actually thinks he gets a lot of his personality from her, which makes him sad every once in awhile, because he thinks he's not living for his real parents anymore. Whenever this happens, he tends to bicker with Johanna a bit more than usual. He gets the feeling every now and then that she doesn't really love him, which scares him a bit, even if he knows for the most part that it's unfounded. Well, when he told her that only girls with large breasts could wear half the clothes she designed, maybe it made it slightly more founded. Oh well. It made Nik laugh. [/ul]
SIBLINGS:
VALENTIN HARTLEY- 15, half-blood. I think their relationship will have to be decided between the person who's playing Valentin and I, but as for now, I know that Travis loves him like a brother. Yay.

OVERALL HISTORY:
Next year, he remembered to come home for Christmas, and was quick to tell Nik all about what'd happened over the first few months of the year (one rumour that someone had actually gotten a T, another about someone fancying so and so, and general second year stuff). But he wasn't the only one who'd had interesting things happen to him over the past four months- Nik had learned to play guitar, and he was pretty good at it too. Travis was extremely proud of him- his baby bro was growing up and doing something, which was more than Travis could say about his life. This inspired him to be a bit more ambitious in his own passions- law and history, mostly, thanks to Brandon. When he returned to Hogwarts, he started working harder on taking notes and actually learning the stuff, because he liked it, and if nine year old Nik could be great at what he loved, Travis could too.
The summer following second year, though, showed a little detour in his ambitions, and demonstrated the one thing that could distract Travis from both his family and magic: women. Yeah, he'd heard about Nik's guitar teacher, but he hadn't known that she was hot. He went through an embarrassing time following her around, and by the end of it, he was convinced he was madly in love with her. He kissed her, one time, but the next time he saw her, she had a boyfriend. Well. Maybe it wasn't love.
He decided not to mention this to any of his friends, and for good reason, too. By the end of the year, he'd been invited to a huge camping trip, and since he wasn't friends with most of them, that had to mean he was well-known and popular, right? Nik didn't believe him, so of course he had to come along, because Travis wasn't going to let him call him a loser and not show him proof otherwise (if Johanna had known about all the swear words Travis had indirectly taught him, it never would have happened again, so they both decided not to tell her).
Fourth year passed fairly quickly, with no major occurrences, except for maybe an increase in meetings with Brigid Finnigan. No matter what, they constantly bickered over the littlest things- Travis just seemed to say the stupidest things around her, and it wasn't like he could take them back or anything. So that's how their relationship worked- he said something ridiculous, she pointed it out, he refused to admit he was wrong, and they had giant fights. He considered fancying her at some point, because that much anger couldn't stem from nothing, but then came THE GIRL, who changed everything.
They met at the end of his fourth year- she was a seventh year. He had been struggling with a certain class since he started Hogwarts, and with his newfound academics kick, he decided he wanted a tutor. She was great at it, and they sort of, I don't know, bonded over it, even going so far as to write over the summer. Having been going through a bit of a rough patch with her current boyfriend at the time, their letters soon turned to their personal lives, and, well, he found that his bluntness actually led to good advice sometimes. Who'd have thought? The last letter she wrote to him (he kept it) said that he was a really good guy and that she hoped things worked out for him in fifth year.
This boosted his ego quite a bit, as well as making him fall head over heels for her. Unfortunately, since she'd graduated, he didn't see her nearly as often as he'd like, and, lacking a creative outlet, he decided to chase other girls to take his mind off her. It wasn't using them, exactly, he just needed to find a way to release all of the lust and emotion and sexual energy he got when he thought about her. He joined the Quidditch team that year, hoping to use it as an outlet (he never took Valentin's advice again- that was hell, even if the parties were great) Fifth year, as it so happened, was a great time to have such feelings of lust, emotion, and sex energy, because when Gryffindor won the house cup that year, there was a huge party, and somehow he ended up sleeping with Brigid Finnigan (no, he doesn't appreciate the irony, stop asking). And, due to chronic foot-in-mouth syndrome, offended her by mentioning being in love with another girl- they haven't been on decent speaking terms since. He did fairly well in his OWLS- mostly Es with the odd O and A.
That summer, he began an internship at the Ministry, and he tried his best to make a good impression. Soon enough, they began to know him around the office, and he was extremely pleased with that. (Nikolai likes to tell the story of how the Minister said hello to him and Travis nearly shit his pants, but it's not true, no matter what people say.) All in all, the year he turned sixteen was pretty brilliant, and, at the time, he wouldn't change it for the world.
Sixth year meant an increase in workload, and that confused Travis a bit. He'd worked himself so hard over the past five years, he sort of wore himself out. He started slacking off a bit more- not enough for it to be noticeable, but enough that he could have a bit more fun. By the end of the year, his marks were lower, but he didn't really mind. The Ministry liked him, he'd had fun, what was the problem? (And he got back in touch with THE GIRL, which was absolutely brilliant. He didn't tell her he'd had sex, though. That would be just stupid.)
The släcker attitude continued into seventh year, and the year ended with lower marks than his OWL scores, but still overly decent. He'd spent the year arguing with Brigid, teasing Nik about taking girls to Hogsmeade, partying with his friends, annoying his professors, picturing the Charms professor naked and only taking notes half the time, so he hadn't expected much better. And it didn't stop him from getting the Ministry job that he'd ensured back in fifth year, so he was quite proud of himself.
Since then, Travis has been a bit, well, bored. All there is to focus on is his job, and while he loves working on getting promoted, and he'll argue until the cows come home with people who don't like working, he just hasn't had anything truly interesting happen to him lately. He's nearly twenty-two, he's lost touch with THE GIRL, and he hasn't gotten any great cases lately. That, and he still misses his Mummy. It's a bit pathetic, really.

Deciding to point this out, he raised his hand. "To clarify for the transcript," he began, cursing his higher-than-normal pitched voice, "what bra size does the defendant wear?" The woman, who looked to be a 36B at most, gasped. The Minister sighed and Travis put on his most innocent face. Okay, maybe that wasn't going to get him a promotion. Damn. Why couldn't he control his impulses? [/quote][/ul]
