[rs=2] | This lovely little swan is Charlotte Fell, younger sister of David and cousin to the marvellous van der Heuvel clan. Charlotte is a Ravenclaw and proud of it - she rather wanted to be in Hufflepuff when she first arrived, since David was there, and more so in the first few weeks of term when she was split up from her best friend and cousin Vera, who was in the same house as her brother. Eventually, however, Charlotte settled down and made some excellent friends in Ravenclaw, her sharp wit and dry sense of humour winning her a lot of fans. It would always be Vera who was her best friend, though - Charlotte often jokes that they're soulmates, only the platonic version obviously. Charlotte is a lot like her brother in many ways - she has a very dry, off-beat sense of humour, and it often takes people a little while to catch onto the fact that she's joking. But once they do, she can crack them up in bare seconds. She's also horrifically messy, like her brother, and it's frankly a miracle that she manages to turn out looking presentable every morning. How she manages it is a secret she's taking to the grave. She's as bright as her brother too, and quietly just as ambitious. She's different from David in a lot of ways, too, though. Very different to him in looks, she also cannot deal with giving people advice at all. Hopeless at empathising with the feelings of others, she's more likely to go look in the fridge and give you a huge tub of ice cream to drown your feelings in rather than offering anything verging on helpful advice. And if the situation is really desperate, she'll run to contact David to ask him what to do. Charlotte oscillates between thinking her brother is marvellous and hysterical to thinking that he's a loser. She winds him up from time to time like any good little sister should, but she also considers him the best person to go to in times of trouble - not that she'd ever tell him that, obviously. Her attitude towards him, really, is more in the manner of a prickly friend than a sister, and given the choice she'd just as happily hang out with him as with her schoolfriends. Whether or not he feels the same way is a mystery to her, but she does love him. A word on where she came from, now. Charlotte Eleanor Fell was born on a cloudy December 4th sixteen years ago. She was a rather fussy baby, always upset about something, but usually quietened down if somebody was willing to give her a long cuddle. The same year as she was born, her cousin Vera arrived, and the two girls were brought up alongside each other. Charlotte adores Vera to this day and they're fairly inseparable. Having known each other since they were born, they know each other inside out and Charlotte considers Vera her best friend in the world. She doesn't resent the fact that David often spends more time hanging out with Vera, either - she worries about her cousin a lot and knows that her brother is excellent company for her. As Charlotte grew up, she was lucky to have a happy family with kind, attentive parents, a devoted - if slightly dangerous - big brother, and a comfortable welcoming home to come back to. Vera was not so lucky, however. Charlotte was really a bit young to understand what was going on when her cousin's parents split up, but she was always ready to try to cheer Vera up - whether by sneaking her chocolate from the kitchen, reading to her from one of her books (still just little kids' ones, since she was only just learning to read at the time), or giving her long hugs. Charlotte was generally a cheerful child despite the misery in her aunt and uncle's house. She never slept through the night, driving her parents absolutely up the wall. She'd be put to bed at about seven and be up again at midnight, refusing to sleep for another couple of hours before finally capitulating only to wake up again at six. This didn't seem to have any adverse effect on her, though - as she grew and went to the local Muggle primary school, she displayed an intellect as keen as David's had been at her age, and was always hungry to learn new things. In fact, her dad soon discovered the trick of recording University Challenge for her, which he could then switch on when she woke up in the middle of the night and go back to bed himself, leaving Charlotte glued to the TV, devouring facts like her life depended upon it. Then she'd switch the television off herself and go back to bed if she felt like it, until she woke up again at six and wanted attention. This system worked fantastically up until Charlotte was old enough to entertain herself during her nightly waking hours, at which point she began to watch more shows to learn more, and read all the books she could get her hands on. Going to primary school, Charlotte made quite a few friends. She was a friendly, outgoing little girl with pretty hair and her mother always dressed her nicely, and she was happy to talk to absolutely anyone, be the the playground bully or the kid he was bullying. She also had ridiculous amounts of general knowledge thanks to her nightly sessions in front of University Challenge, and often enjoyed pulling out random facts such as "A blue whale's heart is as big as a car, Miss!" in the middle of class just for the laughs. To this day, Charlotte has the same attitude that life is an enormous comedy, and tries to avoid taking anything too seriously. Apart from her family and her studies, she mostly succeeds in that, too. Charlotte received her Hogwarts letter on her eleventh birthday just like David had, and awaited her departure eagerly. She had missed her brother desperately in the three years he'd been gone, and was beyond excited to start herself - especially since she'd have Vera right there with her the whole time. Desperate to be Sorted into Hufflepuff with David, Charlotte spent the whole train ride up chatting madly to everybody and anybody she could find, interspersing the conversation with some random facts. At first, many of the first years in her compartment didn't realise that she was joking, but soon they all caught on to her quirky sense of humour, and she had them all in stitches for much of the rest of the journey. Upon arrival, she was almost bouncing off the walls in excitement, craning her neck to try to see David in the sea of faces in the Great Hall. She spotted him right before her name was called for the Hat, and gave him her biggest smile and a thumbs-up, intending to run down and hug him the minute she was Sorted. Disaster struck at this point, however. The Sorting Hat, with bare seconds of consideration, discovered her pathological thirst for knowledge and her sharp wit and sorted her into Ravenclaw with barely a hesitation. Dumbfounded, Charlotte didn't move until the deputy headmaster came and took the Hat from her head and pushed her gently to go and join her table. Fighting back tears, Charlotte did so, and once she reached her table she had to bury her face in her arms to avoid crying. She had so desperately wanted to be in Hufflepuff with her brother. Things only got worse when Vera was sorted into Hufflepuff later on, and Charlotte ended that night thoroughly miserable. After a couple of weeks, however, she perked up again. She got on like a house on fire with most of the girls in her dorm, and still saw plenty of her cousin in lessons and could go seek out her brother whenever she felt like it. She was also the quickest in the year to find her way around the castle, too - her brains would have given her an edge regardless, but her sleeping patterns had changed little and she utilised her sleepless hours in the middle of the night to get up and go learn the castle. She got a fair few detentions for being caught out of bed, but before long she got better at avoiding capture, and currently hasn't been caught in over two years despite roaming around almost every night. |
