Alright, people, here we have Mark Roberts (and the name can change if need be) ex-fiancee to Hogwarts brand new Muggle Studies professor Norah O'Banion.
Norah and Mark (name pending) met in 2016, when Norah was eighteen, and Mark twenty-one, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She was on a journey to see the world; and he - well, he was in Chicago working as a freelance write for Chicago Wizardly Weekly. They met when Norah stopped off to rest for a bit in the wizarding community. She stopped by the newspaper office to see if she could get some housing listings when low and behold she ran into Mark, who told her that his sister Lindsay was looking for a roommate.
Norah met Lindsay, who just so happened to be the same age as she and they immediately clicked. They became fast friends and the more Norah got to know Lindsay, the more she got to know Mark, as well. Although she'd never been a romantically inclined girl, the more she was around him, the more she began to like Mark. He was the typical American guy, slightly arrogant, good looking, devil may-care, don't care what you think of me, attitude. She was always too afraid to make the first move, though, and opted instead to admire him from afar. Of course Lindsay, who'd been watching Norah, watch Mark, didn't see it that way. Lindsay orchestrated an elaborate plan and set the two up on a blind day - and from there they hit it off, becoming inseparable.
Mark loved that Norah didn't taken any bullcrap, so she constantly called Mark on his - and Mark enjoyed making Norah laugh. It was a win - win love affair that went on much longer than Norah had anticipated. Before she knew it, she'd been in America for four years. She'd moved in with Mark and working as a professor's assistant at the nearby Wizardry academy. Things were going well, very well. So well, in fact that Norah invited Mark to go to Ireland with her, to visit her family. He'd never been out of America before and although she'd been going back and forth on all major holidays, Mark hadn't ever gone with her. Off they went, and things went well - very well. Her family, which consisted of a brood of brothers and a few billion cousins, loved Mark. They found his American accent and way of doing things hilarious & interesting. It was on one of their last nights in Ireland, before heading back to America, that Mark got down on one knee, in front of the entire O'Banion clan, and proposed. Norah had never ever thought of marriage before that moment, but without hesitation a YES! resounded from her lips.
The two decided on a long engagement due to the fact that they couldn't decide on anything in regards to actually getting married, and having a marriage. Mark wanted to move back to America, but Norah hadn't realised how much she'd missed her family, and wasn't too certain about leaving again. They opted on a compromise, they'd travel for a bit, live life around the world, then go back to the drawing board and decide. For roughly two years they traveled any where and every where, still as much in love as the day they'd first gotten together. But one day, on a stop in Florence, Italy Norah felt sick, so sick in fact that after going through the standard portkey she had to stop and - let's just say there was no more food in her tummy after that. Mistaking her sickness for a 24-hr bug the couple headed to the nearest healer only to be met with the news that Norah was pregnant. Pregnant and scared shitless would better describe the feeling that ricochetted through her body. She was the eldest of four kids, so she had had the experience in dealing with kids, but that hadn't meant to she wanted them so early. . . David, however, assured Norah that things would be okay, that everything would be alright.
Boy was he wrong. The pregnancy seemed to chaos even more chaos, especially when it came to where to raise their baby. Norah wanted to be near her mum, therefore she wanted to live in the UK or Ireland - and David - he wanted his child to be an American, to grow up how he had. They began to argue, a lot, and things grew tense (they'd been back in Chicago for some time). So tense in fact that Norah began to have cramping, badly, in her abdomen. She was only three months pregnant, which lead to cause of alarm, so Norah and Mark headed to the nearest hospital. The healer informed Norah that she had to de-stress, but the baby was okay. Roughly two months passed and things seemed to be okay; they'd decided to table all talk of wedding/impending parenthood until after Norah was out of the danger zone for miscarriage. It was then that a nice and timely letter arrived from her gran on her father's side, demanding that she return to Ireland - get married, and raise the baby like an irish woman/man. Pandora's box was once again open and another bout of bicker ensued between the couple. Norah began to feel light headed and the cramping was back, she collapsed . When she awoke she found that the baby was gone - she'd gone into premature labor and lost the child (giving birth to a still-born). Completely and utterly devastated would be the only way to describe the once happy couple. Norah withdrew and Mark - he had no idea what to say or day, feeling largely at fault since he'd initiated the argument that'd lead to the whole thing. Mum O'Banion had by then headed out to Chicago with Mr. O'Banion to check on their daughter and Norah made a decision. When her parents left, she was leaving with them, and this time she wasn't coming back.
Uncertain of how to approach the situation, Mark said very little - though tears hung in his eyes - as Norah slid his engagement ring off, set it on the table in front of him, grabbed her things, and left. She returned to Ireland, took a teaching job, and now the situation is where it stands.
She misses Mark like no other and has often been tempted to write him, asking him how he is and let him know that she still loves him, but she promised herself she wouldn't. Though she knows if he owl'd her all her will to resist would be gone in a matter of seconds. She's kidding herself when she tells people she's over him. They were together for seven years, almost married, and shared a child - even if the child did pass.
Now, after that essay - who can i get to take him on?! some details subject to change if you'd like! plus, my fellow (and few) americans, you can use american speak with him!
