Lina was exhausted. She'd gone past the irritating whiny stage, through the tantrums-on-a-shop-floor part and was now sleepily clinging onto Thalia's shoulder, thumb in mouth as she half-dozed, her hair mingling in with Thalia's own.
Thalia was waiting in the imposing marble entrance hall of Gringott's bank. The room was hushed as always, and she could hear the clacking noises of people shoes as they tap-tapped their way back and forth, bank clerks and customers alike. Hitching Lina onto her hip a little more securely, Thalia checked her watch. She'd agreed to meet Niall Anglesey, bank manager of Gringotts, for lunch, or a cup of coffee at least. Unusually - for a musician and a bank manager, that is - it was a purely social call, he was her soon-to-be brother-in-law after all.
The little girl she was holding caught her attention once more as she mumbled something about 'Daddy' into Thalia's neck before her eyelids drooped a little further. The poor darling would probably rather be at home, Thalia thought, but she'd needed to run some errands, and she did so think that she ought to have as positive a relationship as she possibly could with her fiancé's family, and she couldn't very well leave Lina at home. This was what you got, she internally chided herself, for letting three year-olds go to after show parties, let alone concerts.
"Hey, you," she gently wiggled Lina a bit in a futile attempt to rouse her, "Look who it is at last." The child blearily followed her pointing finger and waved. "It's Uncle Niall, Lina!" Thalia continued cheerfully, waving as Niall came closer before stepping forward to kiss him on the cheek. "Say hello, darling."

Niall closed the file kept on his desk as his watch went off, reminding him that he wasn't supposed to be working through lunch but going out with Thalia, his sister-in-law to be. He felt incredibly guilty for avoiding his entire family so much, so he was hoping that spending some time with Lina and Thalia would earn his way back in. But that wasn't the only reason. He actually liked the girl, much much more than he'd like that Abby woman. She seemed like she actually could keep his brother happy and despite the coldness he kept going, he really did want his brother to have his happy ending. And it seemed like he was getting it.
Closing the door of his office shut, he nodded to a pair of goblins walking buy as he loosened his tie a bit and pulled on his blazer. He walked down the stairs, since his office was only on the first floor, and walked into the grand lobby. It didn't take long for him to find the woman and child and he smiled, a genuine smile. "Hey Thalia," he said, leaning forward to give her an awkward half hug - given the child in her arms - and a peck on her cheek. "And hello beautiful," he said, tucking back a strand of Lina's hair and touching her nose with his finger.
"How are you?" he asked, turning back to Thalia as he gestured towards the entrance. "Do you want me to carry her? You look tired," he said, as they stepped towards the doors, the shock of wind ruffling his hair.

Thalia smiled as Lina beamed beatifically if tiredly at her uncle, and she followed Niall's indication that they should head for the entrance. "I'm fine thank-you," she replied politely, "Yourself?" She shook her head in reply to his next question, however, "It's okay, she's practically asleep. We had a late night last night, I'm afraid. I played a concert with a muggle orchestra, and we stayed for the after-party. Niall let Lina stay as well, she was having such fun with everyone in their pretty dresses that it seemed cruel to take her home, isn't that right, darling?" That last part was directed at the girl she thought of as her daughter, but she turned her head to face Niall once more, "Anyway, the upshot is that she's knackered and a little grumpy today, so we're all paying for it."
She stopped, aware that she probably rambling: Niall - with his obvious wealth and power and sense of his own superiority - still intimidated her a little. Her own hair waved in her face in the breeze, and she blew it out of her eyes. "Did you have anywhere in particular in mind for lunch?"
------------------------ ooc- did he ask her out for lunch, or the other way round? xx

Niall listened, interested. It wasn't often that he loved to hear about Muggle events, but this was Thalia whom he did care about and actually one of the few people who's lives he was genuinely interested in. "Poor girl, you've put her through the ringer," he joked, with a smile on his face. "How was the concert though? An overall success?" he question, though he wouldn't be surprised if it was. He'd heard her play once, and he had to admit she was rather wonderful. He had a picky taste in music and she certainly passed the mark - regardless if she was family to be or not - and that was a positive mark for her in his books. "Oh well, I'm sure she'll be out the moment you head back home so you won't have your hands full much for tonight," he said, half guessing since he actually had no clue what her sleeping patterns were. He regretted the fact that he didn't know his niece as much as he'd like to.
He frowned when she suddenly stopped talking, but then let it slide because he figured that her story must be over. "Er - no. The Leaky would be loud if you're hoping she catches a bit of a nap, we could always go down to the Tamarisk Tree? Is that alright?" he asked. "Or we could go through the Leaky, to London. Whatever works for you," he suggested.
-------------- ((er, no idea xP maybe she asked him?))

okayyy, that's cool! i'm not sure why in particular she'd have wanted to, so sorry if i go a bit vague! oh, here's her outfit, just because (: ------------------------------"The concert went relatively well," Thalia smiled up at him gratefully, he was a lot better at this than she was, she felt. "Well, Nevin said it was brilliant, but I know I definitely could have played better, and I think that 'brilliant' is really just his stock answer, so..." she clarified, rolling her eyes fondly. "I hope so!" Thalia agreed fervently, a tired and grotty child was not a life-enriching thing, even if she did adore Lina completely and utterly. Besides that, there was the small fact that she'd planned a night of seduction for her fiancé tonight - aphrodisiacs for dinner, candles, new underwear; the whole works - although that was something she probably oughtn't to bring up with his brother of all people. She glanced down at the top of Lina's head, "She'll sleep through most things if she's tired, and if she doesn't then she'll sleep better tonight, so it's really wherever you'd prefer."

((ooohh pretty dress xD))
------------------------------------------------
He almost laughed at the slight nervousness bleeding into her tone. Usually he would've thought if it as a point to himself but the last thing he wanted was to make her nervous. He felt making family nervous and since she kind of counted as that now, the courtesy was extended to her too, in a way. "I'm sure my brother is a better judge than that," he teased, as he walked down the steps of the bank. "You do play pretty well, so," he said, complimenting her along the way because, really, it's the only thing he could think of to make himself seem less intimidating.
"That sounds..." he trailed off, while trying to think of a word. He had no idea about kids, and he knew not one thing about them either. The only kids he'd been around was when Nevin was younger, and his cousins. But he'd been too small then to remember their sleeping habits, to determine if what Thalia was saying about Lina sounded right or not. "Great," he settled. "So, there's this great Italian just around the corner from the Leaky. in the Muggle world, we can go there."

no, no, it's fine! (: ------------------------------
Thalia's heels clacked on the stone of the steps, and she smiled up at her future brother-in-law, brushing a stray piece of hair back behind her ear as the breeze blew again. "Thank-you," she said, and meant it.
"Alright," she nodded her agreement, turning down the street towards the Leaky Cauldron. The street wasn't empty - was it ever? - but it wasn't crowded or bustling either, and their progress wasn't impeded too much. She tightened her grip on Lina a little, she was getting bigger every day, it seemed. "So, um," she grinned up at him a little guiltily, but almost mischievously, "What is it you actually do all day at the bank?"

Niall couldn't help but get a little distracted from the conversation as he tried to make his way through the thin crowd in the Alley. He'd never been a fan of crowds, but he couldn't help but he worked. He secretly envied the Muggles for having those sleek cars to get them about in privacy, despite being in a crowded place but he'd never really admit it. Sighing, he tried his best to avoid running into anybody who was coming from the opposite direction, while making sure to not lose Thalia and Lina along the way.
"What?" he asked, catching the end of her question. "Oh, well, paper work mostly. Being the manager basically means that I have to make sure everybody's doing their work right - of course, it isn't easy because goblins do not like to be told if they're doing something right or wrong, which is a pain - and if anybody has complains, I have to answer to them. Any major transactions have to be approved by me, so it's a bit of a mess. If anybody's money goes the wrong way, it'll land on me, not those nifty little creatures," he laughed. "I'd rather play an instrument, but my musical knowledge is down to zero, so, not much scope there."

Thalia laughed, "You say that now, but if you played an instrument you'd have to deal with musicians. You don't know pressure until you've several nervous, highly strung musicians all in competition with each other for the limelight squished backstage together whilst the other side of a terrifyingly thin curtain sit several thousand people seemingly waiting for you to go wrong. And that's after the hours and hours of practising the same tiny phrase over and over again, and the expense of your instrument..." She turned to shoot him a grin over her shoulder, "Not that I'd swap it for any job in the world, of course." It was true, she couldn't, wouldn't. It was something so intangibly part of her that she couldn't imagine ever doing anything else for a living. "I couldn't imagine working in a bank, I don't think I could handle it! I definitely wouldn't be any good at negotiating with goblins..."
They'd reached the Leaky Cauldron, and she passed through the entrance and headed on into the dark and smoky pub. Nodding greetings at the couple of people she knew in there, she led Niall out into the fresh air once more. "Which way, left or right?" she asked, waiting for his direction.
