[rs=2] | NICKNAMES: Mac or Millie SEXUALITY: Heterosexual PETS: Monkey, a Hanoverian gelding whose show name is An Eclair To Go. It's their first year competing together. Camille Berenice Devereux was the last child to be born to Billie and Milton Devereux on the 22nd of February in 2007 - and was not particularly wanted by her father. They had had four children already - two boys and two girls - and that was an even balance and more than enough. But along came Camille, who was born in Australia, and whose name had been picked out by her father. Obviously, because she was so young during the rough patches her family experienced, she doesn't remember any of it. She doesn't even remember moving from Australia to England. And whilst she may not remember any of it, Camille was certainly effected by it. Her first years were spent in a less-than-ideal environment and she took it all in. All of the tension she didn't understand rooted itself deep in the crevices of her brain and would later manifest. However, as a baby, Camille was quiet and reserved. She didn't interact much with anyone and the nanny that primarily cared for her wondered, silently, if perhaps something had gone wrong and Camille wasn't going to be "all there" as she grew up. Most infants wailed and wailed when separated from their "special people" - but not Camille. She was almost too quiet, and never made a fuss - not even when her diaper needed changing or if her stomach were growling as fierce as a lion. But all of the tension and anger that Camille had essentially absorbed needed to come out at some point. And it did, when she was three. It's the first memory she has - and it also happened to be the first time she showed any signs of magic. Most toddlers go through an angry phase, where they have trouble controlling their temper. Camille was the exception - at least, everyone thought so. She was just as sweet as ever, playing with her toys one afternoon. But she had trouble getting the trousers onto her doll - the fabric kept catching on the doll's plastic-y legs and then it would make an awful squeaking sound. Camille sat there, tugging on the trousers and silently willing them to go on. But the longer she sat there, the angrier she got... until, in a sudden burst of anger, she began to scream and ripped the head off of the doll. She threw the body in one direction, the head in the opposite and then promptly stood up (still screaming, steam literally coming out of her ears) and began to wreck everything in the room. She threw her toys all over the room, pushed over tables, stomped on pillows she pulled down from the sofa, knocked a glass vase over (which luckily didn't break because of the plush carpeting.) The event was extremely uncharacteristic for the girl and when she's destroyed just about everything in the room, she stood in the middle of her mess, fists clenched at her sides, steam blowing out of her ears, angry pout on her face... until someone finally found her. It wasn't the most exciting sign of magic (the steam), but it was still something. From then on, Camille has had anger issues. She still has them to this day, but she's much better at controlling her temper now that she's older and more mature. Camille doesn't have many memories of her older siblings, aside from Evelyn as they're closer in age. In fact, the only thing Camille remembers about her brothers is wondering who they were and what they were doing in her house. Moreover, she thought they were brought in during the summer holidays as extra help around the house - and she loved to boss them around. (She doesn't know if they actually did any of the things she demanded, but she felt superior nonetheless.) She's eleven years younger than Arthur and ten years younger than Xavier, and therefore never saw much of either of them because they were at school whilst she was born/growing up and by the time she could cognitively recognize them, they were out of the house. Growing up, Camille wasn't particularly close to any of her siblings. They were all much older than her and while maybe she spent the most time with Evelyn because they're only three years apart, they were still never that close. Because of this, Camille had imaginary friends. The one that stayed around the longest (until she was eight) was actually an imaginary Fell pony she had named Firefly. (Like her brothers and sister before her, Camille had an avid interest in horses and had been riding before she could even walk.) Firefly was her best friend whilst growing up, even if he wasn't real. Camille daydreamed about their adventures all day and often would set up obstacles for them to get through in order to rescue their friends (ie: teddy bears, dolls, other stuffed animals, etc.) She had an active imagination and was fine playing by herself; she was so accustomed to it that sometimes she forgot she had older siblings. It wasn't until Evelyn went off to the Australian wizarding school, when Camille was seven, that she started to spend more time with her siblings. (Which is probably the reason, more or less, why Firelfy disappeared after only another year.) The one sibling she spent a great deal of time with was Lucette. Camille did adore all of her older siblings, especially Arthur (when she finally realized that he wasn't the help) and Lucette as they were the ones who opted to spend their free time with her whilst home. Overall, Camille was a sweet child most of the time, but there were those times when she'd suddenly feel overwhelmed and she would snap. Sometimes, her family life was too much to handle. Apparently her father thought so as well because when she was eight, Camille found herself shipped off to riding camp with her siblings. Since they were all different ages, they had different groups to stay in and so on. Camille didn't care for the other kids her age and was, once again, often secluded by choice. She was so used to having just her siblings, that no one else was good enough. Arthur left early on and Xavier followed suit after a few weeks. So that left the three girls at the camp, but Camille didn't see much of her sisters. Her camp counselor encouraged the young girl to make friends, but Camille would scrunch up her nose and walk away. She spent the majority of the summer on a stubborn pony called Fury, who tested her patience every single day. In the end, the pair made for a great team. At the end of camp, there was an optional show. Camille entered and she won her division - both on the flat and over fences. Upon returning home and showing off her trophies and ribbons to her father, it was probably the first time ever that Milton Devereux noticed his youngest child and praised her. Naturally, since then, Camille has been trying to win over her father, but her attempts always fail. She even went as far as to purposefully fall from a Connemara pony she was leasing at the time, to seriously injure herself. In the end, it was Arthur who came to the hospital with her and it was Arthur's hand she held. When Camille was 11, she discovered that she, like Lucette, had the option of going to Hogwarts or the school in Australia. It took some time to make her decision, but eventually she opted for Hogwarts. Lucette was more than happy and Camille felt good, making someone else feel happy. Lucette took her shopping for her list of school supplies and on September 1st, she boarded the train all alone. It was nerve-wrecking and Camille felt a whole lot out of her element. She had never been any good at making friends - after all, her siblings and various family members were the only people with whom she had any serious contact growing up. In addition, Camille had adapted Lucette's attitude - she was better than everyone else, so no one was worth her time. Though she sat in a compartment with other students her age, the dark-haired girl didn't speak to any of them. Instead, she kept her nose buried in a book until the train ride ended. The sorting ceremony was almost too much for Camille. She was so nervous that she was shaking and she remembers the sorting hat having difficulty placing her. He was toying with Hufflepuff, and then he was toying with Syltherin - the oddest combination, he'd told her. It felt like an eternity before he finally decided where she belonged - Hufflepuff. Camille had been crushed; she'd been hoping for Slytherin because that was where Lucette had been sorted. But alas, she wasn't like her sister at all and so she eventually came to terms with her sorting. It didn't take long before Camille was making friends. The superiority complex seemed to have vanished overnight and the sweetheart that was Camille Devereux was shining through once more. She hit it off instantly with one girl, though as they matured, it became clear that they were too dissimilar to be friends and their close friendship dwindled. Perhaps it's because of Arthur or perhaps it's because she has daddy issues, whatever the issue, Camille found it much easier to befriend boys than girls. (Her two best friends are boys and she loves them to pieces. She does have girl friends, but they're not as close as the two boys are.) Academically, Camille does alright. She's not an outstanding student, though she does what she can to get by. It's been like this since her first year and no matter how much she tries to change it, she's still just an average student, one that the professors will forget when she's gone. As Camille hit adolescence, she felt like something was missing. She had never known her mother as she'd left when Camille was just a baby and therefore couldn't discuss any part of "growing up" with her mother because she wasn't around. True, she had Camille or Evelyn, but there was nothing quite like a mother. It was bad enough that her father barely acknowledged her existence. (As it turned out, she looked to Arthur as a father-figure because she knew that he cared.) When Camille hit puberty, she reluctantly turned to Lucette for assistance. The summer after her fourth year, when she was 15, would be a memorable one. In a desperate attempt to find her mother, Camille used the resources available to her from her father's connections. She hired a private investigator, who tracked down her mother. It was the boldest thing she'd done, walking up to a house and knocking loudly. She asked if Billie was there and was invited inside, where she waited patiently for her mother to appear. The afternoon didn't go as planned. Billie, just by looking at Camille for one second, knew instantly who the girl was and cast her away. She said she didn't want to be reminded of that time in her life and she had better things to do. Heartbroken and depressed, Camille fled to Arthur's penthouse, where she stayed for a little over a week. Whilst there, she met some of Arthur's friends - one of whom was just too gorgeous for words. The night Camille left Arthur's house, she went to this boy's house and lost her virginity to him. He had a girlfriend at the time, so they sneaked behind her back to continue their affair for the rest of the summer. It was Camille's first experiences as a woman and having sex with an older man made her feel so much more mature. In addition to all of this, Camille's father presented her with a horse, as he'd noticed her depressed mood. (Camille secretly thought that he'd been tipped off by someone.) A gangly two-year-old Hanoverian colt who was barely green broke was waiting at the stables for her. (They gelded him shortly after he settled in at the stable.) He looked more like a yearling, he was so leggy and thin and short. Camille didn't mind, however, because the horse was an absolute sweetheart. For the longest time, he didn't have a name. He was most commonly referred to as Big Red, because of his striking chestnut color. He was a trickster, that one. The grooms would turn him out in one paddock and he'd be in a different one when it was time to bring him inside for the night. He'd also make funny faces at random times, to random people. So Camille decided to call him Monkey and his show name, An Eclair To Go, struck her when she'd uttered the phrase to a barista at a cafe. While Camille was away at Hogwarts, Monkey finally grew and he was 16-hands by the time Camille returned for Christmas holidays. In the last two years, nothing of significance has happened. Camille rekindled her affair to her brother's friend at one point, but eventually decided that it needed to stop because it was wrong. She's got her group of friends whom she adores. There's Monkey, who is four now and they're just beginning to compete together. He hasn't been out on the cross-country field yet, but Camille does Dressage and show-jumper or hunter/jumper show with him. Their ultimate goal is to event. Now Camille is returning to Hogwarts for one last and final year. She's hoping to make it her best year yet. She wants to pass all of her NEWTs. I wouldn't say Camille is a slut; but she's certainly okay with exploring her sexuality. She doesn't always say "yes" to every guy that asks. She's not sure what she wants to do with herself after graduating from Hogwarts, but she's leaning towards following Xavier's example and getting into eventing. She thinks it's great that her older brother might be offered a spot on the Olympic equestrian team. That's something that sounds like a lot of fun to Camille. |
