[rs=2] | of all the siblings, george is the most serious and grown up of his brothers. he doesn't quite know why, considering he has two older brothers, but that's just how life is. because he's always been the quiet kid, he used to always get teased by his brothers, something which still happens to this day. he loved his family, but with his father focused on the older two, and his mother on the younger two, he was satisfied with whatever little attention he garnered from his parents and bore long-sufferingly through the teasing of his brothers. of his brothers, he was closest with rupert, only because he'd spent the most time with him. otherwise, when he entered hogwarts, he quickly made his own friends and wasn't particularly attached to his siblings. he was sorted into hufflepuff because of his level-headedness and his loyalty, always working hard for his studies. he didn't spend his time on the frivolities of quidditch or parties, and his friends were serious and like-minded. he didn't particularly like the feeling of being underground most of his life, nor did he want a risk-taking job, or something that required a lot of quick-thinking and reflexes. he dithered around for a bit, before deciding on photography. it was something he enjoyed - ever since he was a kid, he loved looking at nature and scenery, the way the sun shone behind a leaf and the little veins running through, the way the sunlight shone down like a spotlight through the clouds. he liked looking at things through another angle, and especially playing with silhouettes and shadows. he'd started drawing at a young age, a way to fill in the time that didn't involve noise - something that was me-time for him. he entered an independent wizarding photography firm a couple of months after his graduation, working photography jobs for other companies. he started dating katerina lewis in his seventh year, and their relationship continued on past his graduation. about two years after he started his job, a nineteen year old girl from his own year was placed under his wing. she'd been transferred from the daily prophet, and although he has no clue as to what happened before, he found he liked talking to her, although purely from a friendly point of view. she was amongst the first he talked to when his father died. he didn't feel much pain or separation, only grieving only out of respect the man who provided a roof over his head, food on his table, and not much more. they continued on their jobs for another year, heading to europe to cover a music festival. katerina, though, had grown increasingly distrustful, convinced that george was cheating on her because of the number of times he and lavinia hewer were sent to private / exotic locations for photoshoots. europe was the final straw. he was adamant that katerina didn't need to come, that they were just doing a job for merlin's sake, and couldn't katerina trust him. she issued an ultimatum not unlike the others she'd given before: bring her to europe or come back to an empty home. angry at her attitude, he'd stormed out of the flat, expecting katerina to just be exaggerating. he came home after a night at his brother's, and the flat had been stripped of everything that belonged to katerina, true to her word. he couldn't back out of the job in europe, which had been booked for weeks, so he went, although his professional facade was ice-thin. drowning his sorrows in alcohol on their last night, he confessed everything to lavinia, and through the alcoholic haze in his eyes, she'd looked so beautiful that night. before either of them knew what was happening, it was morning and she was lying beside him in the bed, both of them naked. george needed time to think. he spent a couple of weeks avoiding her a little, trying to sort his thoughts and feelings. he knew that he'd probably rebounded on lavinia, and he didn't really love her. but at the same time, could they perhaps try? he'd always liked her company, but then again, that was only at work, and he didn't know her much outside of it. just when he'd decided to maybe ask her on a proper date, she came and found him and told him she was expecting. to say that the rug was pulled from under his feet was a complete understatement. he was only twenty, a bit too young in his opinion to have a child. he spent more time thinking, sometimes with her, sometimes by himself, but he knew from the very beginning that there was to be no abortion, and said as much to lavinia. thankfully, he didn't seem to need to exert his right over his child, something which she accepted right from the beginning. it seemed natural, therefore, that they plan everything together. it was their baby's future, not just one parent's, and george was adamant in giving his son a proper childhood with a father figure, something that he'd found a little lacking while he was growing up. not that he really needed or wanted a father figure, but he wanted to be there for his son; he owed his son a complete family. besides, like he'd been thinking, maybe he and lav could try, anyway. believing it to be best, they got married. this was not the best idea in either family's opinion. already teased by his brothers for being serious, being the first to get married seemed like a death sentence to them. they knew next to nothing about lavinia, only that she and george were to be married and were expecting, and really, george couldn't blame them for being so cold towards her. still, he expected them to at least not freeze her out completely, maybe even warm up to her eventually somehow, but then he'd remember that these were his brothers, and they already teased him something dreadful for being different than them. although george loved his brothers, he wasn't attached to them, so whether they approved or disapproved - he didn't care. he was doing what was right, and his brothers just had to deal with it. he didn't want him and lavinia to argue, feeling like any small ill feelings between them could easily break them apart, and george was desperate to keep them together, even if only for the sake of the baby. he allowed himself to be distanced from his family on lavinia's urging, hoping that his brothers don't mind too much / will forgive him in the future, because really, he's doing this because it's right. he was exasperated with the jokes made by his brothers and by the spiting lavinia was exchanging with them. he often felt like he was in a tug-of-war between the two sides of his family. he just let them be, praying that they could get over their pettiness and come together for the sake of baby matthew. their son was another rope with which the family played tug-of-war with: the brothers wanting to see their nephew, his wife keeping him away. besides all that, george took to parenthood, and noticed that lav was amazing at it, too. they worked well enough to get by, even though they sure didn't love each other. however, they bonded over matthew, who was the perfect little boy. soon, matthew took over george's life, and he only spared his mother a week of grieving and prayers in favour of keeping up with his baby boy. it wasn't that he missed her - again, it was only because he'd lived most of his life without her an active person in it, so he didn't much mourn her loss. he mourned her out of respect, but not much more. soon, family life took on a routine. it's safe to say that george began to care for lavinia faster and harder than she did. it was he, after all, who first thought they ought to try and date. it was little things at first: cooking dinner when she came home late, taking over matthew's bath time when she was tired. it gradually progressed to more husband-wife things, like a peck on the forehead or small gifts, although it was more out of affection and care rather than real love. it was during lavinia's second labour that george finally realised exactly how much he loved the woman giving birth to his second son. she had grown from something he endured to something he welcomed in his life, and despite her bitchy moments and their small arguments, he realised that he accepted her way more because he loved her than just to shut her up. (note: it doesn't mean he's whipped, by the way, as his brothers would have you believe - it's because he knows there's a right time for everything, and he lets her have her way now then ease something he wants later.) little joshua was a bit of a terror, but looking after him bonded the parents together more, because while they bickered over what should be done and when and where and how, they always somehow managed to make a decision that made everyone happy. they made their plans together, and that is, to this day, their strongest relationship point. they may have only just started falling in love with one another, but they work well enough that their family is happy. and really, george couldn't ask for more than that. icon credit to BUNYA! at caution |
