Darling Professor Mac,

Hello again! This is Michelle Beckett, aka Shelly Beckett, the gorgeous and wise and probably your favourite student. Well, that's what I thought - until I found out (only moments ago!) that instead of me becoming Ravenclaw Prefect (as had been expected) the honour was given to my darling friend Lily Potter.

While I do not doubt the fact that Lily will be an utterly exceptional Prefect, I am somewhat offended that you decided not to pick me. I assure you that I'd be an utterly stellar Prefect. I'm sure most of the Professors know me as one of the best-behaved students in the school and I've always considered myself the Ravenclaw girl most fitting for the job. I'm not trying to steal the role of Prefect from my darling friend, however - that would be horrible. I just want to let you know how disappointed I am that you decided not to pick me after all my years of good behaviour! I'll admit every now and then there were a few rough patches but even the best students find themselves in a little spot of trouble.

However, there will be no hard feelings when I go back to school. I hope you have a lovely lovely day and eat lots of lovely lovely things. I enclosed a packet of muggle chocolate buttons (although it seems like I'm trying to bribe you into letting me be a Prefect I really amn't, but we've had those chocolates since Christmas and I'm a bit suspicious of them so I decided to pass them on!).

How lovely to hear from you over the holidays. I'm dreadfully sorry to have caused you so much disappointment, but I'm afraid my decision is final. I'm relying on you to help and support Lily in her new role as Prefect, in order to build up her confidence - I have complete faith in your ability to do this and behave.

Thank-you ever so much for the chocolate buttons though, I can pass half of them on to Professor Hewer if I should happen to see him at all this holidays for you, if you'd wish?

I thought it might be! And I understand, Professor - as suited as I'd have been to the role, Lily simply needs it more than me. I will of course support her and try to build up her confidence! I'm the most supportive friend there is. And, as I've said before, there will be absolutely no hard feelings.

Ooh, you could share them! That'd be so sweet. And tell Professor Hewer that I said hi and I think he's smashing.

Do you often see him in the holidays then?
