She had two older sisters, Florence and Sylvie, who paid little attention to their new sister. Lavinia was an outgoing baby; she was always interacting with the people around her and the toys that were placed in front of her. She was on a fast track and everyone said that she took after Florence. Two years after Lavinia was born, her parents gave birth to another child - a boy this time Being only one year younger than Sylvie, Lavinia was almost automatically included in her sister's games and such once their baby brother was born. The three girls formed a sort of "clan" in which Florence was the leader (because she was the eldest and the most bossy), while Sylvie and Lavinia followed her dictation. Growing up, Lavinia was closer to Florence than to Sylvie. The two had similar personalities - loud, opinionated, outgoing, risk-takers. As the years went on, they eventually shunned (nearly) Sylvie from their "clan" and, despite their difference in age, became inseparable. But that was alright because Sylvie and Leighton got on much better. They were similar as well, though Leighton was much quieter. Lavinia was always with Florence and the two never failed to get in trouble. (For example, by the time Lavinia was eight, she'd already tasted beer.) As for her first signs of magic, Lavinia was a late bloomer. She was six when they first appeared. She was shopping in Diagon Alley with her mother for a new owl as theirs had regrettably died the night before. Lavinia had been upset because she wanted ice cream, but her mother had told her "no". Glaring and pouting at the stupid owl, with her arms crossed over her chest, Lavinia nearly jumped out of her skin when the bird suddenly exploded. Feathers and other parts flew everywhere. At first, Lav wasn't sure what had happened or what to make of the situation. Her mother and the shop owner were staring at her, their eyes wide and their mouths opened slightly. Lavinia's blue-green eyes went wide as well and then she burst into tears, thinking that her mother would punish her somehow. Poppy didn't, though she did scold her daughter when they got home - "This is why we need to keep our temper in control." Though, in the end, both of her parents were glad that she had finally demonstrated her first signs of magic - no matter how fatal it had been. (Or expensive, as Poppy was forced to pay for the blown up owl and a new one.) When Lavinia was seven, Florence went to Hogwarts. She didn't seem all that excited to be going, but their parents certainly seemed glad to get their instigator and trouble-maker off their hands. After a week, Lav wrote to Florence (with the assistance of her mother), though she never received a reply. Lavinia was hurt at first, but she bounced back quickly as children generally do. She joined forces with Sylvie and Leighton and together they formed a new "clan" - one that they said Florence could never be in because she was old. Though she was younger by a year, Lav was the one in charge - a mini Flo. By the time Florence returned home for Christmas holidays, the dynamics of the house (between the children) had changed. Flo didn't seem to have much interest in her siblings, which wasn't a problem because Lavinia's attitude had improved tremendously whilst her sister was gone. However, upon returning home, Florence dragged her little sister back into her escapades. They caused trouble all over and their parents had their hands full once again. The years continued like this. Sylvie was overshadowed by her sisters because Gawain and Poppy were always worrying about or punishing Florence and Lavinia. This caused some animosity between all of the siblings. By the time Lavinia went to Hogwarts, she was once again inseparable from Florence. Lavinia was sorted into Gryffindor like Florence had been, and Sylvie remained alone in Ravenclaw house. Lav's first year was eventful to say the least. Her reckless behavior heightened as she was with Florence on a daily basis with no parental supervision. During her first weekend at Hogwarts, Florence dragged her sister to a party and Lavinia got drunk for the first time An older boy tried to take advantage of her, but Florence fended him off and protected her little sister. Shortly after, she sent Lavinia off to bed and the eleven year old went almost too willingly. The following day, at breakfast (while she attempted to nurse a hangover, but failed), she heard a few girls whispering. They said that Florence Robards had gotten so drunk at last night's party that she passed out and several boys (all whom remained unnamed) had their way with her. Hearing this, Lavinia threw up all over the house table and then fled from the Great Hall. Lav never told her sister what she had heard. She didn't know how to bring it up. Florence's behavior worsened and she was nearly expelled from the castle. One night, she confided in her younger sister. She told Lavinia that she felt different from everyone. She said she heard voices whispering things to her and that was why she did the things she did - to quiet the voices. She also stated that she didn't have any friends; it seemed like she did, but everyone thought she was strange. Lavinia didn't understand though she pretended to for her sister's sake. A few weeks later, Flo attempted suicide. Naturally, she was hospitalized. The Healers discovered two things (one more quickly than the others) - A) Florence was pregnant, and B) she was suffering from early onset schizophrenia. (Of course, diagnosing an adolescent with such a disease isn't quite as concrete when diagnosing it in adulthood.) Lavinia told her parents about the party and the story she had heard. Flo was pulled from school and Lavinia began to lose herself. Sylvie, the dear soul, reached out to her sister. However, Lavinia pushed her away, as she had begun doing with everyone. She felt alone and lost without her partner in crime. She had trouble in school with her studies and her magic even became difficult to control. She just barely passed her year-end exams and couldn't wait to get home to see Flo, who was due any day. (Her parents had decided against an abortion in the end. Adoption would be a much better option.) On July 12th, Florence went into labor. Lavinia was in the room with her sister, excited to see her niece or nephew. The baby was born and, since it was an adoption, promptly taken away. But Poppy caught a glimpse of the baby (a girl) and said that no, there would be no adoption. And, so, the following day, they returned home. After only a few days, Florence ran away. She was found almost right away, at some party or other, but Gawain and Poppy decided right there to send their eldest daughter away to get some help. Esme, the baby girl, was motherless. Lavinia felt some sort of obligation to care for niece and that was just what she did. For the rest of the summer, she cared for Esme and when it was time to go back to Hogwarts, Lavinia had to be torn away from her niece. Lav's second year seemed to pass too slowly. She wanted nothing more than to be home with Esme. She attempted to work a little harder at school, though she was thoroughly distracted by what was happening at home. However, a boy from her year showed an interest in her and soon after, Lavinia had her first boyfriend. (Now, being older and wiser, she doesn't really think of him as a boyfriend. He was just a boy whom she fancied only because he fancied her and someone to snog and who kept her mind preoccupied.) Their relationship lasted quite a long time - until the summer holidays at the end of their second year. They were apparently still together during the summer (or so the boy thought), but Lavinia never replied to his owls and always blew him off when he did happen to come around. When she went back for her third year, he already had a new girlfriend. But back to the summer holidays before her third year... Lavinia's parents sent her away to horse camp. She'd been riding since she was three and she was as good as she could be for someone who only rode two months out of the year. Florence was still away and Esme was being raised by Gawain and Poppy. Leighton came with Lavinia to horse camp, as he rode, too. Sylvie went away to dance camp. Instead of worrying about her family whilst at camp, Lavinia enjoyed herself. She rode every single day - twice a day! She liked helping out in the barns or setting up jump courses. There were other things to do as well, like swimming or canoeing or hiking. She grew closer to Leighton that summer and managed to coax the shy boy out of his shell some. It was fun, being a kid again. She didn't get into much trouble (though she did instigate a food fight in the mess hall and she hid the clothes of the older kids who sneaked down to the lake to go skinny dipping. Leighton even helped her with some of her pranks.) When it was time to go home, Lavinia knew she would miss camp, but she was also ready to sleep in her own bed. That summer, Sylvie changed. She came back from dance camp a few days after Lavinia and Leighton got home from horse camp. She was different - mostly her physical being. She was thin and looked tired, like she might collapse at any moment. Their parents didn't say anything, though they did keep a careful eye on their daughter. At least until it was time for the girls to head back to Hogwarts. Poppy pulled Lavinia aside and asked her to please keep an eye on Sylvie, won't you? The young girl agreed, but she didn't have much faith in herself. Lavinia did her best to watch her older sister, but they weren't in the same house and sometimes they weren't even in the Great Hall at the same time. But, from what Lavinia did observe, it obvious that her sister was not okay and she only seemed to be getting thinner. In the end, Lav didn't know what to do. She told her mother of her suspicions, but nothing could be done until the girls were home for the holidays. During Lav's third year, she found it easy to slip back into her old ways. She caused havoc, got drunk, snogged boys... all of the above. She assumed that she was destined to be bad, so she embraced it. It wasn't until the following summer when Lavinia lost it completely. In fact, the entire family did. Florence was home. The day she had turned seventeen, she checked herself out of the hospital she'd been in and came home. Lavinia wasn't so excited to see her sister - at least not as much as she had been in the past. Sylvie locked herself in her room for the whole summer and Leighton just tried to keep on Florence's good side so she wouldn't terrorize him. Esme, who was three at this point, didn't know that Florence was her mother. Flo acted like the child didn't even exist. Lav made sure that nothing happened to the girl. However, one night, Lav walked into the bathroom and saw her eldest sister trying to drown Esme in the bathtub. She screamed and screamed and pounded her fists into her sister's back and even wrapped her hands around Flo's head and then scratched her face. It was the only thing that let forced Flo to let go of the little girl in her hands. Esme made it, but Poppy had to do CPR on her and they brought her to the hospital to stay for a few days, just to make sure she was truly alright. Florence was banished from the house. Her family had more or less disowned her. Right before all three kids were to go to Hogwarts, Poppy and Gawain were called down to the hospital. There, they had to identify the body of Florence, who had overdosed on muggle drugs. She'd left a note and her death was ruled as a suicide. The entire family changed. Leighton shut right down and became mute. Sylvie constantly hummed to herself and danced all of the time, all the while letting her eating disorder destroy her. Lavinia hardened to the world; she hardly laughed and she rarely smiled. She spent a lot of time at the barn, where she felt free from all of the burdens of life. The night the children were told about Florence, Lavinia climbed into Sylvie's bed. Her sister was fast asleep (with tear-stained cheeks), but Lav still whispered to her in the darkness. She begged Sylvie to please get better because she couldn't lose her, too. She told her how much she loved her. Maybe it wasn't too late for Sylvie. Perhaps Sylvie had heard her sister because she started actively trying to get better. Though Florence hadn't been around for a few years, she had still been alive. With her suicide, however, she left a shadow over the family. Lavinia was more reckless than she had ever been before. When she was fifteen, she lost her virginity to a boy from the stable she rode at. She didn't love him and she knew he didn't love her, but it didn't matter. Lav was convinced that love was something entirely fabricated. This sort of behavior continued, though she made sure to be more careful than her sister had been. Lavinia never had a boyfriend. She only had boy toys. She liked to play with them and put them back; she didn't want to keep them forever. When Lav was sixteen, Leighton began to speak again. It was Sylvie who had taken the time to heal their brother. Everyone had thought (and accepted) that he would never speak again. Upon her graduation, Sylvie set out to become a therapist. Lavinia passed her NEWTs with average grades. She didn't care much about school; it had never really been her thing to begin with. She was just glad to be done with it. She took a year to ride and train horses and compete as well. During that year, she did in fact get her first boyfriend. He was a rider from another stable and was a rival to Lav's polo team. They weren't dating long before she thought that she may actually have feelings (feelings of love) towards this man. About six months into their relationship, she walked in on him fucking some bimbo in their bed in the apartment they had just moved into. That was it for Lavinia. She broke up with him then and there and vowed to never let her guard down again because of some guy. After the year of frivolousness, Lav took up a position at the Daily Prophet as a photographer's assistant. She knew absolutely nothing about photography, but it was a job and she was a quick learner (if she put her mind to it.) The pay wasn't much, but Lav didn't care and she discovered that she actually liked doing it. When a woman from the Prophet discovered that Lavina was sleeping with her boss, she told on the young woman. Lavinia was confronted one day by her boss's wife and she was fired later that afternoon. (Thankfully, her boss was - how shall we say it? - whipped, and already had a new job set up for her. Lav gave him a blowjob as a parting gift.) The new job was where Lavinia met George Hewer. They were both only nineteen and though they had gone to Hogwarts at the same time and had even graduated together, she didn't really remember him. But she pretended that she did, just in case. They were teamed together. George served as her boss since he'd been with the company longer than she had been and they did things a little differently. Lavinia learned a lot from George. They didn't speak very intimately; they only spoke about work and surface things. It was a nice change, Lav had thought, to have an actual business relationship. Despite all of this, however, George's girlfriend at the time being was jealous of Lavinia and tried to tag along with them whenever they had to shoot some event or other. George and Lavinia were in Europe, shooting at some festival, when they were both 20. The last night there, they celebrated and both of them got very drunk. George revealed that his girlfriend of three years had broken up with him. Before either of them knew what was happening, they were stumbling back towards their tent and tearing violently at each others clothes. Truthfully, it was probably one of the best nights of Lav's life. The summer heat, the smell of fried food, George's cologne and of course the fireworks that were (literally) going off made it one night that she told herself (the following morning) she'd never forget. Nine months later, she had a baby boy. Backtracking, however... when Lavinia first discovered she was pregnant, she was torn about what to do. Her first thought was to get an abortion. Her second immediate thought was that George deserved to know since it was his child. Would he even care, though? Lavinia finally told George two weeks after she first found out she was pregnant. She hadn't slept with anyone else but him. They had several long talks about it - the first of which they decided that, no, there would be no abortion. Shortly after, Lavinia found out that George had lost his father as a young boy. He was insistent that a child needed both a mother and a father to be raised. And, so, they decided to get married. It was a shotgun wedding. Lavinia barely knew the names of George's mother or his other siblings. She did, however, know that they hated her. Maybe they thought she wasn't good enough for their brother. Whatever the reason, the first time she met all of them (which also happened to be the day George announced that they were pregnant and getting married), she could have wrapped a blanket around herself because the room went so cold. Lavinia wasn't one to just like people automatically or try to get on their good side. So, just as they disliked her, she disliked them. She started purposefully keeping George from them, to make them angry, or saying little things at family gatherings to piss them off even further. The nine months went by slowly and on May 18th, 2020 (the day Lav turned 21!), she gave birth to her son. She never thought she'd be so happy to h0ld a child of her own, but once her son (whom she and George had decided to call Matthew) was in her arms, she never wanted to let him go. That day was the second time both families - the Robards and the Hewers - were together. Surprisingly, everyone was civil towards one another. It was a joyous occasion for the two families. It was also the only time that Lavinia allowed George's siblings to see her son. (In all honesty, the baby had always been with Sylvie or her parents whenever she and George got together with his side of the family. It wasn't until one of the brother mentioned that they never got to see Matthew and how they thought it might be set up that way, that Lavinia started actively keeping Matthew from them.) It was easy for Lavinia to become a mother. She spent time, over the years, taking care of Esme and Leighton, and she actually enjoyed it. She liked being needed. She liked being loved unconditionally. (Her views of love and the like were beginning to warp.) Not to mention, Matthew was the perfect baby, with his daddy's eyes and dark hair (which had lightened significantly over the years.) He was quiet and didn't fuss too much. He hardly ever colicked and he never, ever woke his parents up in the middle of the night. To this day, Matthew is a sweetheart. He reminds Lavinia of Leighton when he was just a little boy. About a year after Matthew was born, George's mother passed away. It was a difficult time for everyone and the Hewer family dynamics changed. Jack became the soul guardian of Annabel, their younger sister, and Rupert and Charles seemed to fall from grace. George seemed to be the only one who could actually deal with the death of his mother. But he'd always been more mature than the others. Lav thought that she and George wouldn't have any more children. They still didn't love each other (though they had grown to care for one another by this point), and sex was just sex. It was always amazing, but it was meaningless (despite the fact that they were married.) However, two years after Matthew was born, Lavinia discovered she was pregnant again. Her pregnancy was a little more difficult this time around and the baby was a terror during labor. Matthew's birth had been flawless - three pushes and he was out. Joshua, though, was different. Lavinia was in labor with her second son for seven hours before he finally decided to greet the world with his high-pitched scream. He refused to breastfeed (not that Lavinia cared, as she hadn't breastfed Matthew either even though the Healers had urged it), he never stopped crying and he colicked all of the time. This time around, the two parents never seemed to get any sleep. To make matters worse, Joshua was keeping up his older brother during the night and so Matthew also began to act up because he was so tired. The household was full of turmoil. One particular night, when Lavinia walked out of the master bathroom into the bedroom with Joshua, she saw her husband fast asleep with Matthew in their bed. The sight was truly precious. She hadn't seen them so peaceful in months. Joshua was all dressed for bed after his bath and Lavinia couldn't help but to crawl into her bed with him. It was the first time she ever felt as if they were truly a family. All four managed to get a full night's sleep and by morning, Lav was sure she was falling in love with George. Their life has been and will always be hectic. Lavinia and George are constantly busy with their work and are talking of starting their own photography business. Their boys are growing up so fast and causing trouble wherever the are (at least Joshua is, being a spunky one-year-old.) Lavinia is trying to work on her relationship with George - and his family, but she has to start with her husband first. She's afraid George will leave her and she really doesn't want that. She also wants to have another child, but has yet to bring the subject up to her husband. |
