PJ scowled. Nothing made sense anymore. People were just the stupidest things ever, and it was quite amusing to watch them struggle. AJ and CJ were off doing their own thing, which was looking at brooms, and PJ had absolutely no interest in doing something like that. Who would want to risk their lives for an idiotic game? That being said, he wandered into Flourish and Blott’s, arms still crossed. The reason he wandered in there wasn’t to say hello to his stepmom, who’d eagerly point him out to anyone who was in his year, but to look at books. They were a great resource of knowledge and entertainment, unlike humans. Humans were 1. stupid, 2. illogical, 3. egotistic, and 4. amusing because of the previous three. Though, after living in America for about half of his life, he had to admit that British humans were far better than American ones. He was pretty sure that most of his classmates could tell that, mainly because he still hinted at an American accent quite often. But he wasn’t quite sure about it- most of them seemed pretty stupid, so how could they put two and two together to know it? He was glaring at some second year when he spotted a familiar face. Devyn Oberlin. She was a bit like himself, he’d noted, and therefore was a challenge to his (nonexistent) superiority. He scowled at her from across the shop, muttering a quick ”shit”, and decided that a conversation with her could be somewhat entertaining. Greeting her with a curt nod, he waited for her to initiate conversation ooc- is this good? if there's anything that you'd like me to change, i'd be more than happy to do so!

Devyn placed a book that she’d been scanning back on its shelf when she realized it seemed utterly boring. Since the last time she’d seen Louis and he’d told her about his sexuality, all she wanted to do was stay inside her room and never come out unless the house was on fire, but she’d realized that that wasn’t possible to do unless she had something to occupy her time with. She’d run out of books to read and in some cases, re-read, at home, but she wasn’t having much luck finding new books at Flourish and Blotts either.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone vaguely familiar and looked up, recognizing the Ravenclaw in her year. PJ was an annoying little fucker the majority of the time, especially in the classes they shared at Hogwarts, but she couldn’t help but finding him slightly amusing sometimes. He hated everything and everyone, possibly even more than she did, and that was almost funny to her. “Well don’t you look like you’re about to kill yourself,” she greeted dryly, knowing it would annoy him, “but that’s what you look like all the time, so there’s nothing really new there.”
(OOC – it’s all good!)

PJ simply scowled at Devyn. She definitely knew how to ruffle his feathers well, nearly as well as his siblings. Thinking of an equally witty response would be a bit on the difficult side. "Yeah. Whatever," he replied with an eye-roll. Though he was slightly amused, keeping a straight face was easy, as always. He diverted his attention to a shelf for a brief moment, thinking he'd seen a book that he needed for the upcoming year. It'd been a false alarm, though.
"So. How many OWLs did you fail?" he asked, thinking it'd annoy her as well. PJ thought his response was brilliant, because wasn't he always brilliant? He stared her directly in the eyes, attempting to be as intimidating as he could be. With his arms crossed and stare, he'd be able to terrify most little first years or even some second years. Though he knew he was pushing his luck with Devyn, he figured it was worth a try.

Devyn took his scowl and roll of the eyes in stride, being completely used to it as a reaction from him whenever they put forward the effort of speaking to one another. “Yeah, whatever,” she mimicked in a voice that sounded nothing at all like his, pulling out another book from the shelf so he would be aware that she wasn’t giving him her full attention. His next comment, however, made her glance up again, and she narrowed her eyes accordingly.
“None of them, actually,” she said distastefully, as if he’d said something that had left a sour taste in her mouth. She knew better than to tell him the actual marks she’d gotten on her OWLs (all O’s and one E in Herbology), because although in reality there was no chance at all that he’d done better than her, he’d likely try to pretend that he had. “I’m sure you failed all of yours, though, which is sad because I’ll be so disappointed if I don’t get to see you in any of my classes come September,” she feigned a tone of concern, “really, it’ll be devastating.” She was rather unimpressed by the way he was standing – it was evident that he thought he was better than everyone else, like always. He was taller than her, but even that combined with his crossed arms and fixed stare didn’t work in the least to intimidate her. Again, she had become accustomed to this type of behavior from him over the past few years, and she took it as a personal insult when he thought that his tactics would still work on her. “C’mon, let’s net get too worked up,” she said, speaking to him as if he was a child that needed reprimanding, “you’re taking up valuable floor space just standing there and glaring.” To further make her point, she sidestepped past him and trailed along the aisle with the book she’d picked up still in hand, clearly expecting him to follow her because that was generally what guys like him did.

Phil continued to stare at Devyn, biting his lip. "Y'know, my voice isn't that low," he said sarcastically. His voice was much lower, and he hated when people messed it up. He was okay with them using the same tone and mocking it, but as long as it was still the same pitch. Which, here, it wasn't, but it was Devyn who was mocking it. What else could he have expected? Her to actually respect him would take too much effort, and plus, he sort of liked the little rivalry.
PJ smirked as she sounded upset that he'd asked. Though, he frowned when she mentioned that he probably failed all of them. He'd nearly failed one, History of Magic, but who actually needed that subject? It took too much effort to actually remember all of the names and dates and whatnot. Plus, he was going to work in the Ministry when he got older, and did you really need to know the dates of the Goblin Rebellions to get an internship there? "Well, I got all O's," he lied. It was mainly to appear equal to her, because knowing Devyn, he supposed that she'd gotten a higher mark.
Of course, Phil followed. He wasn't too happy about the way she was speaking down to him, but that was something that he knew better than to yell at her for. He continued to have the same posture and everything, but it was his only trick(other than cursing like mad). Not commenting on the last bit would give her a false sense of victory, wouldn't it? He was quickly plotting out a little plan to win this little "battle", but that'd be for her next move. He smirked, broadcasting his fury slightly.

"Really? I was under the impression that I got your voice at just the right pitch," she said innocently, knowing it would irritate him even more. She didn't understand why he couldn't just drop it, because he was wasting his time arguing with her when he should have really known by now that he couldn't win. Maybe he actually didn't have anything better to do, though, and that thought in itself amused her.
Devyn audibly scoffed as he claimed that he'd gotten all O's. It wasn't an absolutely impossible feat, but she knew for a fact that for him, it definitely was. There was no way that he could do that perfectly, because he tried way too hard. On second thought, so did she, but she wasn't about to admit that they were similar in that respect. "Oh wow, did you really? That's just lovely. I suppose I should offer you some congratulations on that, then," she responded simply, her tone practically dripping with sarcasm.
She wasn't surprised at all that he followed her, because that had been the intent of the move, after all. He had probably even been expecting her to do something of the sort, but what he likely wasn't expecting was what she said next. "I sincerely apologize, but I really don't have much time for you today," she began with a smirk, gazing down at the book in her hand with disinterest before putting it back on its shelf and continuing walking on, "I guess you'll just have to save all your anger for another time. It sucks, really, because I can just tell that you were looking forward to further fighting with me. But unlike you, I actually have a life, so..."

PJ glared harder at Devyn. How dare she just play innocent when he knew she was just trying to push his buttons. Control yourself, he thought bitterly, knowing that if he showed anger, it'd only egg her on further. He'd do the same if he was in her position, though, but that didn't really justify it to him. Grudgingly, he let the comment go, knowing it was yet another argument that he couldn't win. There were far too many of those than he would've liked.
He raised an eyebrow as she replied sarcastically to his comment. "Why thank you," he replied in the same manner. "I suppose your scores aren't half as good as mine." The last bit wasn't sarcastic- he said it in his normal voice. He was going to try for a reaction there, but something told him that Devyn knew him too well and wouldn't react. In some ways, she was probably smarter than him, and he was the Ravenclaw.
"Ah. Well, in that case, say hello to the other you," he said, crossing his arms. He ignored the part about him not having a life. Phil considered himself to have a life, which consisted of debating with peers and whatnot, but really, he barely had any friends. The only people that he was really close to were his siblings, even though they could be extremely annoying at times. He looked up at the shelf, pretending to ignore her.

"You're very welcome," Devyn responded mock-sweetly, throwing a fake smile in his direction. She wasn't thrown off by his comment stating that she'd probably failed all of her OWLs, because it was exactly the sort of thing he'd been bound to say at some point. Did he think she was stupid? She was getting quite tired of the superiority that certain Ravenclaws seemed to exhibit based on their thinking skills simply because they had been sorted into Ravenclaw. She hoped someone would give them the memo eventually that they were not all, in fact, automatically smarter than everyone else just because they happened to be in the Hogwarts house that was most well known for intelligence.
"Yes, you've caught me in the act. I actually received T's in all my OWLs but I was hoping that I could outwit you and you wouldn't figure it out because that would be so embarrassing," she shook her head solemnly, placing one hand dramatically over her heart, "you really got me this time. Damn."
She shook her head at him as he crossed his arms. "You're a real character, aren't you? You never give up." She paused, nearly feeling sorry for him standing there and pretending to ignore her. Maybe it was because she already knew him too well or because she was good at reading people to begin with, but somehow it wasn't too hard to see right through his "I hate everyone and I don't care about anything" act. There was way more to him, probably, but she didn't care enough - or at all, really - to figure it out. It almost saddened her for a moment, because she wondered if that was how other people saw her, too.

PJ shot Devyn a "DON'T YOU DARE GO THERE" glare. She wanted him to react, he figured, and he really, really, really didn't want to give her the ability to make him get all angry. He wondered if she'd strategized the whole thing out in the few seconds that he stood in front of her without saying a single word. He figured she'd done so, since he was such a predictable person. That'd need to change.
A rare grin spread across Phil's face, even though he knew it was just Devyn being sarcastic and not him actually getting all Ts. "Ah. Better luck next time, I hope you enjoy being a waitress your entire life," he said with little emotion in his voice. He felt as though he could play a mean Spock in a Star Trek television revival. He even looked the part, at least that's what he thought.
"Never," he replied with a nod. He briefly wondered if she'd ever conversed with either of his siblings. Though, she probably wouldn't have- CJ was a complete arse who would tell anyone everything and had no idea what secrets were, and his sister was quieter and reserved around older people. If she'd ever talked to CJ, then she'd definitely have known about his parents- that story was one of Caleb's favorites to tell.
