Dad,
I realised I owe you an apology. I missed your birthday; sorry about that. Hope you had a good one. Did something nice with all your friends and all that.
I know where I'm living over the summer now - obviously there's no point settling down anywhere permanent until I've left school. I've got a job as well, so I should be okay not that you care.
That's all really. Just thought I'd keep in touch, and apologise for the birthday thing. How's Mum?

My birthday passed uneventfully. I worked for most of the day. I can't say I was surprised when I didn't recieve any birthday wishes from you, so your apology is accepted.
Well, I hope wherever you're living is satisfactory. Of course, I can't exactly understand why you would live in what I'm presuming is quite a small flat when you could be in the Manor, but at least you've managed to find somewhere. Where is it, may I ask? Or would you prefer me not to know? Or are you living with someone else? And I'm pleased you've gotten a job - where are you working?

Oh well, I suppose once you get to a certain age, you don't bother with birthdays as much, do you?
I think it's satisfactory. And I don't think it's too small. It's in London, and yes I'm sharing with someone. My job's in London too.
I told you I would keep in touch. I've told Ella she can come and stay with me in the holidays. Damien too.

If it's not one of your friends from school then who in the name of Merlin are you staying with? It's important that I know who you're staying with. You may as well act your age, seeing as you've decided to live on your own and get a job and seem so determined to be seen as an adult.
I'll let them stay with you if you tell me who it is you're living with and where, exactly, you work. And they won't be allowed to stay with you for a very long period of time. Your mother will support me in this.

Wow, you're sounding quite worried there. Don't worry, as you said, I'm an adult, so I can take care of myself. I'm not living with Roxanne, if that's what you're worried about. They're family, if you must know. And I have a job in a shop, in Diagon Alley. Nothing too bad about that, is there?
What are you going to do, keep them in the house the whole time?
And did you ask her?
