Daddy.
I haven't seen you in ages, please come back soon. I miss you. You'd be happy to know that Alice and I had a conversation the other day - kind of. Well, she found me crying and butted in and I couldn't shake her off.
When are you coming back?

Abby,
I am happy to hear that you two had a conversation - now tell me honestly, did either of you hex each other? (I'm hoping that's not what's under that long crossed out bit.) How is she doing?
I would love to come home soon - I can't wait to be back. Unfortunately, the Herbologist I'm meant to be seeing seems to have up and left the country or something, as no one can get a hold of her at all. On the other hand, I've been fed enough to supply a small country of people, so I'm quite all right, really.
Love, Daddy

Daddy,
No, we didn't actually. There was a little screaming but no harm done. And no, that was not what I scratched out.
Oh no. But summer will start soon and I wanted you to see me do my Herbology exam! I don't want a substitute for that. Oh that's nice. Bring us something home, okay? Any exotic plants?

Abby,
Screaming is ... an improvement, isn't it? Are you going to tell me what you scratched out, or is this something I don't want to know about?
I'm sorry, sweetheart, but you might end up having the substitute anyway - but you know that I'm going to proud of you no matter who is giving your examination, right? I think I'm going to bring home all of these recipes, as the food's delicious, but no plants until I find Madam Sahin.

Daddy,
I suppose it is. But then we didn't scream so much at the end, and we talked a little bit. I don't think you want to know. You'd be disappointed in me, and I don't want you to hate me, ever.
I know, I know, but I wanted you to see me! I've had a lot of free time on my hands the past few weeks, so I've only been studying and I learnt so many things I'd never have even though of learning before! And you won't believe it, I actually found records of the old NEWT papers for Herbology - the ones they keep in the library for reference? I could actually answer a whole section without help!
Oh, bring some plants if you can, okay? And what recipes?

Abby,
That's wonderful, then. The less screaming, the better. Abby, you know that being disappointed in someone and hating them are two very different things - even if I ever am disappointed in you, there is nothing in the world you could do that would make me hate you. All right?
You know I'd much prefer seeing you, than letting some other Professor do it. And NEWT level papers - really? That's my girl.
I'd love to bring you some plants - unfortunately, the only interesting one I've seen so far is a Flitterbloom. Doing much better on the recipes front, though - I've nearly to wheedled my landlord into revealing his recipe for what I'm told is leeks with chicken liver.

Daddy,
You promise? Even if I tell you that I made a horrible mistake and hurt people who I really care about? And that it could have all been avoided, if I'd just thought before I acted?
They were really hard though, but I think it's okay since I'm only a fourth year, right?
No, but I've seen those! The recipe sounds interesting though. Was it as good as mum cooks? (I won't tell her, if it is, promise!)

Abby,
Everyone makes mistakes - and making them is part of growing up. Sometimes, it's disappointing the people we care about that let's us grow into people who can make them proud. You're probab;y not old enough to understand Why don't you tell me what happened, sweetheart.
Abby, most of those questions are hard for NEWT students - the fact that you can even understand them as a Fourth Year proves how good of a student you are. I'm very proud.
I wouldn't tell you even if it was better It's very different from the sort of food your mum cooks, so I'm not really sure that comparing them would be fair. Perhaps I can convince her to try making some, though, and then we'll talk.
