HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I didn't know what to get you, but I hope you like it! Did you know that boys are so much harder to buy for than girls? I grew the plant myself - you can make tea from the flowers and it cheers you up. And you've probably read the book already, but oh well. I love you and I miss you, and I hope you have an amazing day! It sucks that your birthday wasn't in the holidays this year. Lots and lots of love, Lily (( OOC - The plant is a flowering herb which she created herself by breeding other plants together and adding a bit of magic, and acts as a mood enhancer. The book is entitled 'Wandering Wandmen: travelling wand carvers in the early days of wandlore'))

LILY
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
No way, the girls are the toughest to buy for. You grew this? Lily, I'm so proud of you! It's brilliant. What did Neville say to it, did you tell him? This is extraordinary magical skill, thank you so much! Actually I have read the book, but I lost my copy so that's really thoughtful! How did you know, though?
I miss you too! I know, but close enough. At least I saw everyone at least once. How are you though? How's life treating you?
Love you too! Teddy

Dear Teddy,
No, honestly. With girls, it's easy, because the things they like, they never mind having more of, but if you get a guy something he's already got, he's just like 'I've already got it.' Unless it's chocolate, but you can't get everyone chocolate every time.
It's not extraordinary magical skill, Teddy, don't say that. I was only messing around, and it was the only one I grew, so I haven't shown Neville because it was for you...
How did I know what? That you liked wandlore? That's not a very clever question...
I'm okay. I still haven't really talked to Abby. I think something might have happened with her and Lucy actually, because I had a class with them both today and they didn't even sit together. I'm reading a book Auntie Ang lent me, it's quite interesting. Other than that, I'm just revising for exams really - I hate exams. Next year's going to be even worse - I would feel sorry for Louis, except that I don't think he's really doing any work for his OWLs.
I'm glad you liked your presents!
Lots of love, Lily xxxx

Lily,
Okay, fine, but while buying gifts for girls you have to think 'will she like this color?' 'will she whine about not looking good in it?' 'is she going to end up exchanging it' blah blah blah. And you can get me as much chocolate whenever you'd like.
Don't be so modest! It's rather good.
No, how did you know that I lost my copy and needed another, silly. Of course you'd know that I like wandlore!
Oh you don't think they broke up do you? Or maybe they had a fight. You should go talk to her if you think she needs somebody to talk to. Which book? Yeah, next year's OWL year! Better enjoy it while you can honey! Louis is a smart kid, he'll figure out what he's doing eventually. I mean, I didn't pull it all together until the last few weeks anyway and I did decently!
Love you too Teddy

Dear Teddy,
Sorry I haven't written back for a while. I had loads of horribly essays.
Anyway, not all girls are like that, you know. You don't have to worry about that sort of thing with me, do you? And how many times have you bought a present for a girl and had her whine that she doesn't look good in it? If she does that, she doesn't really deserve a present, because that's really rude.
I just like growing things.
Well, I didn't know, I thought it was probably a useless present.
I think they might have broken up actually. They're still not really talking, I don't think. I kind of want to talk to one of them, but I haven't for ages, so it's a bit awkward. I miss Abby though.
The book's called The Beauty Myth. It's not my usual sort of book because it isn't a story, but it's interesting.
I suppose Louis'll probably be okay, though I don't know if he's as clever as you. I wish I didn't have to do OWLs - I hate exams. Did you know that Muggles can go to universities and carry on studying things after school? They can even study Herbology (they call it something different though). I wish we had universities. Do you think a Muggle university would let me in?
Loads of love, Lily xxxxxxx

Lily,
Don't worry about it. Did you do well?
Of course I don't, I know you inside out. You're like my kid sister, honey, I know everything. Well, yeah, but I bet she's thinking something else and I'm no Legilimens and given a certain situation(s) I don't want to be. Girl politics is not my area of interest or expertise.
I know. I remember a certain plan for a certain garden-orchard for when you grew up?
Well if you miss her, you ought to talk to her. She probably needs a non-judging friend from what I hear of the situation, and you're a good person for that. Even if you don't give a lot of romantic advice, you're a good listener.
That sounds mysterious. What's it about?
Why thank you, but he'll manage. Don't worry, it's next year kid! Do you think you'll become prefect? Yes, I know about that. I think they call it Bonaty, or Benoty or Botany or something. I think if you worked real hard, and started studying for Muggle subjects, you could. Maybe in the summer, since you have to focus on Magical exams too? They generally get out of school when they're 18, so you could wait a year once you graduate from Hogwarts to study and prepare.
Love you too, Teddy

Dear Teddy,
I did pretty well, thanks! I got Os on two of them, and an E on the other.
You don't know everything about me, Teddy - same as I don't know everything about you, do I? Most things, maybe, but not everything. And I don't really care what colour something is or what it looks like if someone I love bought it for me. I can't do girl politics either. Does that make me not a girl? I don't think girl politics is any different from boy politics really though. People just think it is. It's all people politics really, and I can't do any of it, so does that make me not a person?
Yeah, me and Abby were going to do that. I mean, some of it was just stupid dreams, but I don't think having a commercial garden's too bad a plan. I want to grow healing plants for potions. And I can grow flowers and vegetables and things too.
I don't even know what 'the situation' is, Teddy. I haven't heard anything about it - what have you heard?
Well, the rest of the title is 'How images of beauty are used against women.' Does that help? Or I can ask Auntie Ang if you can borrow it after me, if you want?
I don't know - I don't think I'll be prefect. I'm not confident or popular enough. Rhi might be though. Or even Shelly or Alex - Shelly's a bit mad, but she's loads more confident than me.
It's called Botany - though people mostly study Biology (which is all about the science of nature, I think) and then go on and specialise in study of plants. I've been reading about it.
We get out of school at eighteen too, silly. Remember? You're seventeen at the end of 6th Year and eighteen at the end of 7th Year... Though apparently lots of Muggles take things called 'gap years' after school, so it's quite common for them to be older when they go to university (I was asking this girl in my year who's Muggleborn) so I could still do that. I don't know though, could you take that sort of exams after only a year's preparation? Maybe I'll just stick to magical stuff...
Lots of love,
Lily xxxxxx
