The Looks [IC]
HAIR COLOR:[/b] light brown
EYE COLOR:[/b] Hazel
SKIN TONE:[/b] Fair, light tan in summer.
BODY SHAPE:[/b] She's quite a slender child - slight is probably the word to come to mind. She's just a girl, but she's beginning to blossom, so she's growing breasts - a fact that frightens and fascinates her in equal measure. She's quite shy about her body, because she notices the curves starting to develop in her previously boy-like frame. She's far too embarrassed about her chaining body to ask her mother, and as she's at a boarding school, her Mum doesn't see her everyday so doesn't really broach the subject.
OVERALL APPEARANCE:[/b] Sydney's a fresh-faced girl, not particularly tall and not particularly stand out. She's got a lovely smile, not that she displays it too often. She has a faded scar on the underside of her thigh from when she scraped it against a stick in an effort to scramble away from the pond and to her elder brother to get him to save her brother. She also has an assortment of tiny scars on her lower back from when she fell into a bramble-bush as a kid. She has the same colour hair as her mother, and she resembles her mother more than her father.
PLAY BY:[/b] Abigail Breslin

Extras [IC]
FAVOURITE CLASS:[/b] Ancient Runes. The symbols are an art.
Also, CoMC. Animals make her happiest.
LEAST FAVOURITE CLASS:[/b] Probably Transfiguration. She's good at focussing on things generally, but she finds the intensity of Transfiguration somewhat unsettling. She's a bit too much of a dreamer to ever enjoy such a subject.
BROOM:[/b] She used to fly an old Nimbus as a kid - outdated by this point in time, but it had been her father's pride and joy as a kid, so she'd always preferred it to the racier brooms on the market. She doesn't really fly anymore, because it seems wrong to do so when her younger brother had enjoyed flying so much, and now he never could again.
PET/S:[/b] A snowy owl with amber eyes that she named Verity. She's been the most consistent friend Sydney's had since Taylor's death.
She also takes care of Minnie, Taylor's cat. She was a grey kitten when he died, and their father wanted to put her up for adoption as the sight of Minnie saddened their Mum but Sydney fought to take care of Minnie. It was the most life she'd shown, the most fire, since Taylor's death. She takes the green eyed cat to school, even though she's 5 years older now, and gets her Mum to send Verity in with a letter on the first day so that she can sneak Verity in. She loves both pets more than her own safety.
HOBBIES:[/b] Art. Drawing is her thing. She's always been a bit of a dreamer, always scribbling on any surface she could find - Matthew's books, Taylor's shoes, her walls, anything - but after Taylor's death, she'd turned to herself a bit and had spent hours every day drawing as a release from the pain, and it became her lifeline.

Personality [IC]
LIKES:[/b] Drawing, painting, sketching, peppermint candy canes, penguins, the colour yellow, deep questions, listening to music, helping people, feeling like something she's done has benefitted someone else, chatty people, listening, purple, niceness, politeness, being on her own sometimes, flying, animals, blue candy, Quidditch, muggle skateboards, the feeling of grass between her toes, climbing trees, skateboarding and watching Quidditch games.
DISLIKES:[/b]People asking things that other people clearly are uncomfortable speaking about, being teased, water, plastic, fake people, people taking things for granted, ponds, the Black Lake, bodies of water, fish, seafood, death, injured animals, people being deliberately hurtful, tactlessness, talking, pollution, rubbish, littering, ham, cheese, labels and writing lots i.e. essays, notes.
BAD HABITS:[/b]Unless forced, she doesn't tend to complete essays/writing assignments due to both her dislike of writing and her complete lack of interest in completing homework like that; She tends to try keep to herself and can unintentionally offend people; She no longer talks about things that hurt her, which can lead to her bottling things up and other people confused about where they stand with her; She bites her fingernails and has never tried to break the habit; She can be as blunt as her brother and this can lead to hurt feelings, which makes her feel guilty; She can be very single-minded at times and makes no secret of the fact that she often prefers animals to people.
GOOD HABITS:[/b]She's quite observant and tends to know who to offer to listen to if they need it, and is always there to listen to people; she always tries to give credit where it's due; she has very good manners - verbally, anyhow; she's a truthful child, and lying just doesn't occur to her as a suitable option; she's quiet, especially when people are doing something important; she never tells something that she thinks is personal, especially if she wasn't intended to see/hear/know it.
STRENGTHS:[/b] She's a fantastic artist, and is good at Ancient Runes because of this; She's a very truthful child and she's never had any problems distinguishing between what she is comfortable telling people, and what isn't hers to tell; She's very caring, and she would like helping people, if they asked; Syd is a good flier; Sydney is quiet and thus doesn't really seem it, but she's actually quite strong (mentally). She knows what's right and that if she doesn't want to tell people something, she doesn't have to. It's one of the only reasons that she's not completely lost in life; When she loves, she loves with all her heart; She's incredibly caring towards animals, and absolutely adores them.
WEAKNESSES:[/b] She cannot stand water. She just can't. She absolutely hates to hurt people, but she would probably punch anyone that tried to get her to the water, most likely in a fit of panic. Bodies of water make her hysterical; She doesn't realise that she could be hurting people's feelings when she tries keeping to herself; She is far better with animals than people; She values Verity and Minnie far more than her own safety; She's absolutely terrible at writing long texts - she can't focus on it for too long, and it just bores her. She hates it so much, and she dislikes the rigidity of it all. She much prefers the free flowingness of art. For this reason, she's not doing too brilliantly in classes.
PERSONALITY:[/b] Sydney has always been called 'a lovely girl'. In recent years, 'if a little quiet' has been tacked on to the end of most descriptions, but in essence, she's a sweetheart, if a bit quiet with slightly blunt tendencies.
She's always been a caring child, and before her brother's death, she was a happy-go-lucky kid, always moving, always beaming, always doing something with her hands. She'd had the most infectious laugh, and the most mischievous smile - now, she doesn't really talk to anybody. She's still caring, and she's still an optimist at heart - unlike her brother Matthew - but she just doesn't know how to show it anymore.
She seems very shy, and she is, until you get to know her. As a kid, she was always the one that wanted to meet people, the one that would run around with Taylor and invite random children to play with them, and just trust. She doesn't trust as easily anymore, and she's nowhere near as open as she was as a kid, because she understands trustto be a two-way process, and that she doesn't deserve trust after she let down her brother, yet she also feels betrayed by everyone else - she trusted her parents, her big brother, their friends and family to protect Taylor and keep him safe and now Taylor's dead and she feels like she can't trust anyone like she did before.
She's honest - to the point of bluntness, actually. She's never been one for lying - she's always been a truth teller. However, she's gotten more secretive since Taylor's death - mainly since it was her first real, pray-to-god-important secret. She'd still never lie about it - she'd just avoid the question. She's gotten very good at darting questions - it's a skill, really. However, when asked something that she is sure with herself that she is allowed to answer, she will answer as honestly (and occasionally, bluntly) as possible - which is generally the biggest resemblance she has to her brother, at least in the eyes of others.
She's a bit of a dreamer in the sense that she likes her own train of thought and hates writing down essays or performing complex spells - anything structured, really. She can often be found doodling away in the margins of textbooks - she has literally been scribbling on publications since she was four years old. She always thinks of it as 'renovating'.
Even as a kid who liked people, she always adored animals, so when people let her down, she sought solace in animals. She's not ashamed of the fact that her truest friends are an old cat and an owl. She loves animals, and she adores CoMC as much as Ancient Runes. They just fascinate her so much - she'd love to have a job that involved caring for animals. She just understands them, and feels like they can understand and accept her without any need for her to share her secrets.
Being quiet, she is often able to observe in ways that many people don't, and as such, she tends to notice things before others. She's always willing to listen to people, and never tells a secret. If she was ever put in the situation where keeping a secret would endanger someone, she'd have a horrible dilemma, but keeping someone safe would most likely win out.

Memories [IC]
BOGGART:[/b] Water. She's deathly afraid of swimming. She can't handle being in water, it reminds her too much of the night Taylor died. Her mother once tried to get her in a bath some point after Taylor's death, and she was hysterical. As soon as she slipped into the tub, she was overcome with a feeling of her throat tightening and closing and she started thrashing around, unable to escape the feeling that she was drowning, the feeling that haunted her. She has nightmares about Taylor drowning, and she feels like that's what he felt.
After she screamed and scrambled out of the tub, her family never tried to get her in a bath or to swim again.
DEMENTOR:[/b] The day Taylor died. Sydney can recall it all in frightening detail. She's never forgotten anything about it, and it hurts. Most nights, she'll wake up in a cold sweat, remembering screaming at Taylor to kick up to the surface of the pond, screaming for Matthew to come, trying to get Taylor and not being able to, and finally running to grab Matthew only to arrive to a scene that was too late for her little brother - her best friend.
PATRONUS:[/b]Sydney's best memory is from the Ministry's New Years Eve function the year before Taylor's death. It was also her ninth birthday. Taylor was already eight, Matthew was ten, about to turn eleven. They'd bickered earlier that day, but the three of them (even Matthew!) had held hands as they sat under a tree, counting down together. When she's feeling especially sad, she just remembers her brothers' hands in hers as they watched the fireworks go off. It makes her remember a time when she knew where she belonged.
MIRROR OF ERISED:[/b] Her greatest desire is an impossible one- for her whole family to be together, doing what they love. For Matthew to be her brother again. For the people she loves to understand art is her life now. And most of all, more than anything in the whole world, more than world peace and that jazz, she wants her brother back. She'd do anything to get Taylor back. She wishes she could have died instead of him. Having Taylor back is her deepest desire- and it terrifies her.
VERITASERUM:[/b]
5) She knew Taylor wasn't a good swimmer when he'd begged her to play a game outside by the pond, and that she wasn't a good swimmer either, but she said yes anyway.
6) She imagines what it would be like for her to have died instead. She has half a notebook full of sketches of her funeral and of her drowning instead.
7) She has a massive thing for her big brother's best friend, Francis. It stops her from going mad with guilt over Taylor - even if she doesn't realise it - but she tends to trip over herself when he's around. She just thinks he's so lovely, and she loves listening to people and she'd be absolutely mortified if anyone ever found out.[/ul]
AMORTENTIA:[/b] Fresh paper, the smell of ink stains on her fingertips, charcoal, vanilla, rain and white roses.

Family & History [IC]
MOTHER:[/b] Lana Jacobs, 44. Stay-at-home-mother. Muggleborn.
FATHER:[/b] Brady Jacobs, 45. Ministry worker. Halfblood.
SIBLINGS:[/b] Matthew Jacobs, 5th year Ravenclaw.
Taylor Jacobs, would be 12.
OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY:[/b] n/a
HISTORY:[/b] Sydney was the second child, and only daughter, born to Brady and Lana Jacobs. Growing up, the family was never overly concerned about paying their bills - they were never wealthy, but they were comfortable, even as a five person family.
Growing up with two brothers is probably why Sydney's always been inclined towards tomboy-like behaviour, like climbing trees and adventuring with animals and make believe. That was Sydney as a kid. She considered her two brothers her best friends in the whole world, until she was about seven and finally accepted that while Matthew loved her, he didn't always like her. In fact, she had an uncomfortable feeling that she annoyed him. The most blatant consequence of this thought process was that he became even closer to Taylor, and they were each others' best friends. When she was eight, she finally got why it was weird for her to call her seven year old brother her best mate, so she stopped verbally referring to him as such, but in her heart, he was always her top dog.
She and Taylor (and Matthew, at times) had always loved to run around and play and fly and invite other kids to join their games on muggle playgrounds etc. They both talked so much that their parents were always saying the neighbours would call noise control on them.
They all loved Quidditch, and the three siblings tended to fly together and play with their father on his time off. They were happy.
Until one day, that all changed. Brady and Lana had to attend a ministry function and as it was still daylight, and there were neighbours within thirty metres, their parents assumed it was okay to leave their three home alone. Unfortunately, they were wrong.
The day had been hot and that, combined with the vigorous playing the three had done, had tired Matthew out and he'd gone inside for a nap. Taylor and Sydney had followed, though five minutes later, Taylor was begging to go play again. Wanting to allow Matthew to sleep, Sydney reluctantly agreed and crept outside with her little brother. On the patio, Taylor had wheedled until she agreed to play by the pond - his favourite spot on their grounds. All though they'd always had supervision around the pond, Sydney figured it'd be okay because nothing had ever happened before, so why should it happen then?
Anyway, they played a tagging game until an exhausted Sydney collapsed beside the pond and lay down to rest. She closed her eyes as her brother knelt down near her, to watch the colourful fish swim around the pond - the reason it was his favourite place. Her eyes were closed for only a few minutes, but when she opened them due to her brother's excited exclamation about how much prettier the fishies were from "up high", Taylor was sitting on a medium-sized branch that hung directly above the centre of the pond, and he was leaning closer to see the fish. Then the unthinkable happened - he fell in. Sydney knew that neither of them were confident swimmers - in fact, they were still learning how to swim at the time - but it wasn't until she realised Taylor was thrashing about that she grew panicked. She shouted for him to swim to the bank, where she was - a good five metres from where he was thrashing, an impossible task for a terrified boy with little swimming ability. Realising this - and that she'd hinder more than help - she ran screaming to Matthew to wake him to get him to save Taylor, but by the time she managed to wake him up enough to run outside, it was too late for their brother.
Sydney couldn't sleep that night, and she held out until midday the next day, but then she fell prisoner to slumber and the inevitable nightmares. She woke up screaming, images of her drowning brother replaying in her head. This was only the first of many nightmares.
In the months following, with her brother at Hogwarts, Sydney retreated inside herself. Their parents had decided to keep the house, despite the horror that Sydney now associated with it, because that was the house their youngest son grew up in and they couldn't leave it. It was a silent house now, with no laughing children to warm the walls. Only two parents grieving for their youngest child and a girl that didn't speak.
A few months after the accident, while Matthew was at school, she'd gotten mad and had started scrawling on everything in angry slashes of biro. At the end, her cream room was covered in blue ink and she felt oddly calm. From that day forth, she picked up her childhood hobby of drawing and turned it into her salvation from herself.
When she went off to Hogwarts, she was terrified, as she didn't really know anyone - she didn't know her brother anymore, because they hadn't spoken in so long. She wouldn't have been able to tell you who's fault it was that they didn't talk like they used to, only supply that she didn't talk to anyone like she used to - and it was a scary place to be on your own. However, she was sorted into Hufflepuff and within a few months, she'd settled in and found her place. Not at the centre of a thriving friendship group, but as a wallflower, who was always there to listen and always observed and was the quiet dreamer.
The nightmares continued, and after a while, her dormmates stopped asking. She started trying not to scream, and it's working - she hasn't screamed in over a year now, though she often wakes in silent tears. She avoids the Black Lake like it's the Black Plague and she never bathes, only showers reluctantly for as little time as possible, with as large a gap between showers as possible. Her housemates have learned to stop asking why, as they never get an answer.
She attends Quidditch games religiously, but never flies. She feels it'd be so wrong to touch a broom and to fly into the air when Taylor had loved it so much and could now never do it. However, she watches every Quidditch game she can because it reminds her of when they used to watch them and while it hurts, it's a good hurt.
Her parents write occasionally, and she occasionally writes back but more often than not, she just sends a picture with a few words. She doesn't talk to them much anymore because she doesn't trust them the same anymore.
In her first year at Hogwarts, she met her brother's best friend, Francis Lehane, and quickly developed a child-like affection. Unfortunately for her, as she grew and developed, so did the affection. Soon, it was third year and she was nursing a massive crush on the boy. She'd be absolutely mortified if he ever found out - if anyone ever found out - and she would not be able to talk to her brother, as she would be so scared of his reaction. She has a horrifying habit of dropping books on other people's toes when she sees Francis.
She's not doing well in her classes because when it comes to essays, more often than not, she doesn't do them. As far as she knows, no teachers have alerted her parents but it wouldn't make much difference if they had. She's just a little girl with too much pain who has to grow up without being able to trust her parents and just tries to live through each day as it comes.
