A bit of a weird month, really.
Started teaching at Hogwarts, which is bizarre to start off with. I keep forgetting I'm a Professor now and swearing in front of the kids and stuff - and there've been several times when one of them's called me 'Professor' and I haven't realised they were talking to me...
Anyway, Digger's teaching here too, which makes it even more weird. We managed to get things sorted early on though, and go back to being friends again, which was great, although I did wish we could talk about everything that happened between us four years ago... But more about Digger in a bit. I'm getting ahead of myself.
I haven't had any trouble fitting in with the rest of the staff - they're much younger than they were when I was at school, which is good, because it means most of them never taught me. I've had a few good talks with Nellie, who teaches Divination, but isn't at all the sort of person they usually have teaching that subject. I've told her about me and Digger (bits of it anyway), but she's the only one of the staff that knows (except probably Azarius, Digger's best friend), although I think the others suspect something.
And my students... the fifth years are an interesting bunch. I've got Rolf and Luna Scamander's kid in my class, and the other teachers warned me he was a troublemaker, but he hasn't been bad in my lessons - I think it's because he actually likes the subject. Of course, he knows pretty much everything there is to know about Magical Creatures, so he keeps me on my toes. I like him though - he reminds me a bit of me at his age, although I have to remember not to laugh when he talks about all his pranks.
Then I had a bit of a worrying conversation with one of the other fifth years, a Slytherin boy called David Chan, who's very quiet and well-behaved in lessons, but seemed like he was worrying about something happening out of school... I've kept meaning to talk to Rhapsody about it, but haven't had a chance.
And then there's Roxanne Weasley, who's a lovely girl, but worries about everything too much. I've talked to her a few times now - she seems to have adopted me as a bit of a mentor, but more about her later too.
There's a 7th Year boy - Bowman Wood - who insists on trying to flirt with me. Obviously, I ignore it, but it gets a bit wearing. The thing is, he's actually a very good student - but I don't know whether he thinks flirting with his teachers is going to get him better marks, because if so, someone needs to tell him it isn't going to work.
Other than that, all the students are doing quite well. The fourth years are a lively bunch, but nice, and they all seem quite enthusiastic about Magical Creatures, which is nice.
Back to Digger, and the most confusing part of the whole month.
I had Roxanne Weasley in my office the other day, all upset because she'd gone and got drunk with some boy in her year, and didn't know whether she'd had sex with him or not. It was pretty clear that nothing had happened, once we actually got down to the facts, and I managed to reassure her, although she was still very embarrassed about it all of course.
But the worst part was that she mentioned another guy - someone who, from what I could gather, she'd tried to come onto, and who'd rejected her. But she said he was older - older than 17, she said. And I already knew, you see, that she had a crush on Digger, so obviously I worked out who it was, and went and asked him about it. He admitted it to me - I think he thought I'd be furious, but it was hardly his fault. He was stupid to let her anywhere near him, but he did push her away. He's worried he's going to lose his job though, and so I am.
Then somehow, we got onto talking about us, and I actually told him about the photos Helena showed me of him with that French girl he got pregnant. But after all that, he told me it wasn't even true; that there was no French girl, and he never got anyone pregnant, or cheated on me at all - he even offered to take veritaserum to prove it. I don't know what to think; I don't know whether to believe him. I thought I knew him once, but now I just don't know any more.
A very confusing end to a confusing month.
