I WALK THIS EMPTY STREET
Personality
DISLIKES:
- Organized workstations - She can't work in a too neat place. Of course, in the kitchen she has to, for hygiene sake, but at home, in her study or in her office, she prefers a slight sense of chaos. Personally, she remembers where things are kept better that way.
- Lazy people - She cannot stand slackers. She hates it when people say they'll do something, and then whine and complain when it's time to do it. She has no room for such people in her workplace or even in her life most of the times.
- White chocolate - She loves working with it, but she hates eating it. It isn't really her cup of tea.
- Seafood - This is a bit of an irony, given the fact that she grew up near the sea coast and some of the best delicacies there were from the sea. But it makes her nauseous, not to mention, she's allergic to most shellfish anyways.
- The countryside - This is again ironic, given she named her restaurant La Campagne which is French for 'the countryside'. She loves open fields and everything, and the name fit, but she's a town girl and needs to be in a city to function right.
- Winter/Fall season - She doesn't like the cold weather. The only good thing about it is her birthday in January, but she prefers Sundays spent by the beach or sun bathing in her open lawn on a Spring afternoon.
LIKES:
- Dark chocolate - Her favorite dessert and her guilty pleasure. There is always some in her fridge for her, and she cannot get enough of it.
- The rain - It's one of her favorite seasons, and summer rains are the best. She loves the poetry of it, and the feel of it and the smell of it. But mostly she loves the water and feels like after it rains, the world looks like a better place.
- Cooking - She loves it enough to do it for a living, so that must say something about her. She grew up watching her father and elder brother Adrien work their magic on weekends and during vacations in the kitchen and the habit and interest was soon ingrained in her too. Cooling reminds her of home, and of her childhood.
- Gardens - She doesn't know a thing about gardening, but she loves all sorts of gardens, be it kitchen gardens, lawns, greenhouses or orchards or parks.
- Ships - She loves travelling, and more than that, she loves travelling old fashioned. She knows she can get Portkeys or travel in Muggle aircrafts but she prefers ships and boats.
- Sleeping in - She's a sucker for laying in bed (if she has no prior engagements) and wouldn't mind sleeping an extra hour or two just because she doesn't want to get out of bed.
- Wine - Apart from the taste, she loves studying it and has been to multiple vineyards over the years, to study how it's made, how it matures and how to match it with good food.
- Men - She loves men. Working with them, flirting with them, talking to them. You'd think with spending her whole childhood around them, she'd like some female friends or female company, and she likes that, but she feels like men make better friends.
BAD HABITS:
- Messy - She isn't very organized and relies more on instinct and thoughts, than planning and measuring. It's probably why she doesn't follow a lot of recipes, or why she's not as good at baking as she is with savory food (since baking involves precise measurements).
- Day dreamer - She's always lost in her own thoughts, and isn't always paying attention to what somebody is telling her. It's a bit rude, but she doesn't even try and help it.
- Straightforward - She doesn't have a mental filter when it comes to words, and usually speaks what's on her mind without taking into consideration the consequences.
GOOD HABITS:
- Punctual - Despite her lack of organization, she is always on time for any engagement she has. She can't be late no matter what happens, really.
- Fun-loving - Ren loves to have a good time, even if she doesn't have an agenda. If she feels like cheering herself up, instead of sitting and hoping somebody might come along, she'll go out and have some fun on her own.
- Honorable - She always keeps her promises and commitments. She isn't careless about it, but she does keep promises, at least, the ones which are important.
WEAKNESSES:
- Her work - If you give her a new dish to try out or some new ingredients at the restaurant, she'll be at it for hours on end. Her work is her baby and she's always bending over backwards to get to it, and can be easily convinced to keep cooking.
- Her family - She adores her family, and even if she left some of them behind, she would do anything for them. She's always got their backs and loves them to bits.
- Good looking men - She's a sucker for eye candy, and if she sees a good looking man, chances are she would go and flirt with him. She doesn't really put herself out there though, and is subtle about it.
- Baked desserts - It's the one thing she isn't very good at, and even if she makes a decent cake or soufflé she doesn't like being only fairly decent.
STRENGTHS:
- Level headed - She doesn't get angry or pissed easily, and if she does, she isn't loud about it. She might be cutting or ruthless with her words, but she doesn't go about hexing and throwing things.
- Her brothers - They are her rock, and even if she's having the lowest day, their encouragement always gives her and extra boost and wills her to go on.
- Cooking - Obviously, it's one of the things she's rather excellent at and has made her name pretty known thanks to it.
PERSONALITY: Ren is a very independent, mostly level headed and strong personality. Having been a bit of a lone ranger her whole life, and only male figures in her life (three brothers and her father) she was brought up as if she were a son too. It's not surprising that at a young age, she's quickly made a name for herself in the culinary world, as well as back home in France. The ones who know her as the owner and head chef of La Campagne have only heard of her ruthlessness, expertise and finesse. She's known as the boss from hell, because when she works, it's all she expects from anybody. That way, she as incredibly hardworking and passionate about any task she takes on.
However, the people who know her as Ren, know her as a completely different person. Even as a child, Ren was always a highly inquisitive person. It wasn't out of the norm for her to go around asking question after question to people. If somebody refused to waste their time with her, she wouldn't even care and just move on to another person to help her. She isn't always concerned about who helps her, as long as she gets the help and has a job well done. In her eyes, she'd rather work with somebody she hates and who is brilliant at their job, than somebody she loves and who would give a sloppy result.
But work aside, Ren is an extremely loyal and charming person. It wouldn't seem like this tough career woman would be interested in mundane things, but she adores the little things in life and lives it to the maximum. It's normal for her to spend an afternoon in bed, reading a book with a mug of hot chocolate or going out for a night of movies and to the park, or even going shopping. Despite the tough exterior, Ren is a teenage girl through and through.
She's very honest, almost to the point of being rude. Almost every serious conversation she's tried to have with people she cares about, she's ended up putting her foot in her mouth. She calls things as she sees them and asks or comments on whatever goes through her mind without thinking of the repercussions or how the other person might take it. She's also quite horrid at keeping secrets that way, almost always blurting out things she shouldn't really. The only way she'll ever keep a secret is if it might ruin her when it gets out.
That brings us to the point that all things said and done, she's a selfish person. Not like get-out-of-my-face-that's-mine selfish, but more like she would do anything for herself but she has to be persuaded to help others. If it came down to something helping her or somebody else, she'd choose herself in a heartbeat.
Ren isn't a very vocal person either, when it comes to her emotions and feelings. She always keeps those under a lock and key, using her words and thoughts instead. For example, if she likes somebody she wouldn't admit she likes them, she'd probably say something like 'You come up with great ideas' or 'Your eyes are so blue' or something like that. Or if she hates somebody, she won't admit she hates them, she'll just say something like 'You're annoying me' or 'Go away.' She lets her actions speak for her most of the times when she doesn't want to come to terms with how she feels.
She's also an escapist. She lives a lot in the present, or the past or her own fantasy world. She also day dreams a lot, because if her life is giving her a hard time, she'll just shut herself up and imagine herself in a better world. She's always running from her own problems, but doesn't hesitate to point out others'. In her head, she can rule her own life, however she wants to and doesn't live it on anyone else's terms.
She has quite the ego and would never allow anybody to boss over her. In fact, the only people she's ever grudgingly taken orders from would be her father and her brother Gaspard. Anybody else is on the same level as her and do not have the authority to. Not that this stops her from giving orders to them or anything. She's a bit of a hypocrite that way.
But apart from the selfishness, hypocrisy and rudeness, Ren is really just a woman who's had to go through a lot and who's just waiting for somebody to make it all better. Somebody who accepts her, flaws and all and somebody whom she can really trust herself to be with. She doesn't get into relationships because she's holding herself out for somebody who really loves her. She does enjoy a good date or a thrilling fling once in a while, but she believes love isn't her thing. Not now at least. For now, she's just happy with her life the way it is.

HISTORY: Renée Dupuis was the first girl child, and the third child to the born to Alphonse and Yvonne Dupuis ever since they got married 11 years before. She was the little miracle child, because the Healers had warned Yvonne of issues during her pregnancy and Ren's birth had been a grueling twenty five hours of labor. Since the moment she took her first breath, she was swept into a loving family and was loved beyond belief.
Her nursery was the biggest and brightest, she had the finest of cute clothes and bonnets and there were always family friends and cousins over just wanting to meet the charming baby. And she hogged the attention even then. She was probably the most spoilt girl ever, always in the cradle of somebody's arms and in need of constant company even when asleep. But nobody complained because with her big eyes, soft tufts of hair and creamy soft skin, she was the cutest baby around.
But Ren would grow up with no memory of the woman who fed her even at the most absurd hours of night, refusing to hand her over to a wet nurse, the one who sang the sweetest of lullabies and brought her the cutest of clothes. Two years after she was born, Yvonne fell pregnant again and despite the advice of the Healers who'd witnessed the complications of her previous birth, she decided to keep the baby. The midwife who had been present during Ren's birth, as well as Elliot's, warned her that due to a condition with her uterus, the fourth labor might me more painful and prolonged, but being the mother she was and not wanting to get rid of her baby, Yvonne declined.
Eight months into the pregnancy, and after a miscarriage scare, Yvonne went into labor. Both Alphonse and the midwife were present at the time, and they tried to help her but a premature birth with complications is no easy task and they rushed her to the hospital. Although Gaspard was born, tiny, but healthy, there was too much pressure on the mother and she started hemorrhaging. Hard pressed to get more blood into her via transfusion, they managed to keep her heart beating but only for so long, until her body gave up and the fresh blood, instead of helping her function, ended up causing hypothermia and taking her life.
The family mourned the loss, especially the elder siblings and Alphonse but they kept their life going, knowing they now had two babies to look after and no mother to help. Alphonse's sister, Bijou, moved into the family manor to help and slowly they fell back into the patterns of the way life used to be.
Growing up in a large manor, a few hours away from the city of Cannes, was an excitement in itself. Ren always had something to do, be it going to the beach, or wander the large garden maze behind the house or go on adventurous trips with her brothers to the city. Their father rarely accompanied them, but he always leant an ear to listen to their crazy stories, and their aunt was always there to help as well. When Ren turned 6 years old, her aunt moved back to her own home and Ren was left as the only girl in the house. It was difficult to get used to, since she never had anybody to understand her need to dress up or play with old make up kits of her aunt and mother, but she didn't mind experimenting on her own.
When her brothers, Adrien and Elliot went off to school, she and Gaspard became the best of friends and to this day, he is the brother she is closest to. They would share secrets (as many secrets as two preteens can have), play in the fields and irritated their nannies and tutors together. But soon enough, Ren turned eleven and she was off to Beauxbatons, from where Adrien had already graduated and Elliot was in his fifth year. It was the first time Ren had real female company, actual girl friends. The concept was difficult to get used to, but she eventually allowed herself to be a part of a gang which would eventually center around boys, clothes and shopping as they grew older.
Her vacations were spent in the family home where their father and Adrien would make them delicious meals and they would spend their nights sharing stories in the parlor. It was during these times that Ren found herself drawn to the techniques which her brother and father followed while cooking, rather than their mindless chatter. She found herself making simple dishes and lending her hand soon enough until it became an honest interest. She spoke to Gaspard about it, making him promise not to tell anybody, because all things said and done she believed that her father was a true pureblood and expected her to either get a government Ministry job or stay at home. Of course he didn't listen, and when she graduated Beauxbatons, her father's present to her was a train ticket to Paris, along with an acceptance letter from one of Europe''s finest magical culinary institutes.
She spent four years there, mastering the art of cooking and quickly morphed from a home cook to a sous chef to a trained professional. It was a normal life, which is all she'd asked for. She made friends, explored the city during her weekends, met more boys (whom her brothers never really liked) and had a blast. It was during her last year in culinary school that she met Antonio, a handsome, charming Italian wizard who worked for his family business. The two of them hit off immediately, and went on many a dates and mini vacations, and it was one of the most tearful goodbyes she'd ever given as she went home to Cannes after getting her degree, and he went back to Rome.
But Antonio didn't let her go, and after many heartfelt letters, he followed her to her city where they reignited their romance. She was like a teenage girl all over again and she truly believed that she'd found her soulmate. Antonio understood her in a way nobody could and she loved him for that. He was her piece of forever, and it wasn't long before the two of them were engaged. Her family didn't like the idea of such a quick engagement, but Ren put up a convincing argument and they didn't do much accept agree, since it was her life after all.
It was two months into their engagement that Ren decided she wanted to start her own restaurant instead of working for an already established name. Having talked to her father about it, she was coming home to tell Antonio the good news, ready to celebrate and start a new life together. Instead she walked in on him bedding another woman. If you asked her now what she thought at that point, she wouldn't be able to give an answer. She didn't listen, didn't feel and even when the woman hastily dressed with a soft apology and ran out and Antonio tried to shake her back with apologies, she was stuck with the image in her mind.
She went home a wreck, and refused to speak or eat for the next few days. Her father was furious, her brothers distraught. Their little girl had become a little shell and they didn't know what to do. When she finally had the nerve to get out of bed, and moved beyond the stage of 'my-life-is-over', she owled Antonio to come and meet her. She told him, despite the protests of her family, that she was ready to forgive him and talk things out like an adult, that she would pretend it didn't happen if it was a one time thing. He told her that it wasn't, that he had fallen in love again and that no matter how sorry he was, they had to call off the wedding and that she had to move on. He then gave her back his ring and left, not before she threw a vase at him and Elliot broke his nose.
Unable to cope with a broken heart and the sympathy of their family and friends, she decided to leave France and start anew in England where nobody knew her very much. Her father didn't want her running off to a country where nobody knew her and where she was a foreigner and ultimately he relented on the condition that she take Gaspard with her. She agreed and the two went to England, and quickly learned to become English. She continued her dream of starting a restaurant and started a high end, gourmet French restaurant in Muggle London (for wizards). She moved on from her broken heart, and learnt her lesson well enough. She never went back to her family, only owling them with gifts on birthdays and only went back for Adrien's and Gaspard's wedding.
She's become a stronger woman now and although she won't ever be the same naive girl she was, she hasn't let that hinder her outlook on life. She's happy now with her life in England, with her job and however her family is, and although she's living the life of a wife and a mother vicariously as an aunt to her nieces, she doesn't have any regrets in life.
