Lysander smiled contentedly as Alex pulled her legs up and asked about his holidays. It was sort of strange right now because he was torn between being utterly relaxed - it was a beautiful morning, he was in excellent company, and basically there was no reason to be anything other than cheerful - and very tense with something he couldn't quite put a name to but which he was ninety percent sure was totally and completely the fault of the blonde girl in front of him. Vaguely wishing that he was the sort of boy who knew what to do in situations like this, Lysander swallowed and tried to concentrate on the conversation.
"Um, yep," he replied, after what was probably an unnaturally long pause, "There's a few rumours about some unknown creature near Machu Picchu, we're going to go check it out." He listened carefully as she spoke about her own holidays, determined to be attentive rather than zoning out like he seemed to be doing a lot with her around. It was just sort of hard to concentrate on everything about her at once. "What's happened with you and Bronson?" he asked, his brow furrowing, "I thought you were friends?" The complexities of teenage social life escaped Lysander about eighty seven percent of the time, and all the drama had him constantly flummoxed.
At her next question, Lysander tried and failed not to blush like a lunatic. Ducking his head, laughing a little nervously, he tried to be cool about it and not generally act like a nine-year-old. It was just a question for Merlin's sake! And, some little part deep in the back of his mind suggested, wasn't the fact that she was asking supposed to be a good thing? Swallowing, Lysander looked up, and managed to reply, "Um, yep. Once. Aggy Bass sort of ambushed me. I think she had a bet with Dominique, they do things like that sometimes. Have, er... have you?"

Alex picked at a loose thread on her Puddlemere jersey as she waited for him to answer - she must have asked him a challenging question judging from the awkward silence that fell over them. When he finally did speak, she nodded slowly. "Cool. So your brother isn't going with you then?" She wasn't entirely sure what Lysander's twin's name was but she knew it was something odd... and after maybe a singer or someone? She'd barely even spoken to the guy before, except for an embarrassing mix-up where she thought he was Lysander a couple of weeks back. "Oh, we still are. He's just going through some stuff, I think. I don't really know... he won't talk about it. But most dude's don't really talk about their feelings so that's not really a big surprise, y'know? Besides, I don't reckon I'd like to sit down and try to have this big, meaningful chat with him."
Regretting her question entirely, she wasn't at all surprised when Lysander turned the most spectacular shade of red she'd ever seen, a colour she was probably wearing herself as he returned the question. She felt a pang of... something when he mentioned having kissed Aggy Bass before. Surprisingly, she knew who she was - Bronson's sisters best friend - and it was a bit hard to miss the beautiful blonde when she was always smiling and tutting at people for drinking coffee at breakfast. She pushed a piece of hair behind her ear, biting her lip briefly before she admitted, "Once... Dhruv Cornfoot decided to for some reason. He said afterwards it was because he liked me and when I said I didn't really... well, I didn't really care, he asked out Shelly the next day. He's a bit of a prat."
Glancing up at Lysander, she paused for a moment as she studied him, eyes searching his face carefully before they dropped down to his lips which looked really, really tempting. Alex hesitated a moment or two before she decided she wasn't a Wood if she didn't act on her impulses and that was what pretty much spurred her to do what she did next. Reaching up, Alex cupped Lysander's jaw gently and leant up to press her lips softly, and very uncertainly, against his.

"He might," Lysander replied absently to Alex's question, eyes following her fingers as they picked at her jersey, "He sort of sticks with Mum, so if she comes, so will he." Lysander's family life wasn't especially normal, what with most of them being off in their own little worlds the majority of the time, but it wasn't a bad one either and Lysander was content with it. He'd never known any different, after all. He frowned slightly as she talked about her friend - what was his name again, Bilbo? - and tried and failed to look concerned about the younger boy. Empathy was not high on Lysander's list of strong suits. "I'm sure he'll be fine," he said finally, hoping he looked like he was genuinely worried about it, "Just, you know, let him work it out himself. Or something."
Lysander now, still vaguely mortified about the whole situation, felt a twist of something unpleasant down in his stomach when she spoke about the other boy - Dean? - and this time didn't even bother to try to explain it away. The simple fact of it was, he realised, he actually quite minded that Alex was kissing other people. At a loss as to what to with this realisation, he attempted to make the sort of comment that a guy good with women would make - someone like his brother's friend Lachlan Creevey, maybe, he seemed to have a lot of girls around him most of the time - and was halfway to suggesting that he go and beat up this fellow for Alex when the feel of her hand against his face stopped him cold.
His internal panic was cut short when her mouth pressed against his hesitantly. All of his attention was focused instantly on the point where their lips had met, his normal mental screaming about girls being close to him utterly absent. All he could concentrate on was how great Alex was, and how soft her lips were on his, and how nice it felt to be kissing her. Unthinkingly, Lysander slanted his head to deepen the kiss (Aggy's ambush had been a useful learning curve, in hindsight), and put his hands out to draw her closer to him, one settling onto her waist and the other rising to tangle into her hair.

Alex nodded along as she listened to Lysander talk about his family, still absently picking at that one thread that was bugging her. She kind of liked knowing that Lysander got along with his twin... mainly because there were so many twins constantly feuding in Hogwarts like the Longbottoms which tended to split her year into thirds - people on Abby's side, people on Alice's side, and people who just didn't care. Alex came under that last category, not particularly close friends with either of the girls. "Yeah, I know he'll be alright. It just gets annoying when you want to hang out with him and he's brooding 24/7."
A flood of relief overtook Alex's body as Lysander returned, and deepened, the kiss which was just so amazing and brilliant and dreamworthy that she let herself sink into it. Her hand that was still resting against his jaw, slide to the nape of his neck along with her other hand as she let Lysander take lead of the kiss. Alex wasn't entirely sure if she was even kissing him back properly but it felt right. Doing this with Lysander felt natural which was all that really mattered in the end, wasn't it?

It took Lysander several moments to pierce through the blissful fog that had settled into his head with kissing Alex. Lysander never had difficulty usually clearing his mind of noise - in fact, he spent a lot of his time in a dreamy sort of trance, unaware of what was going on around him - but this was different. Much, much nicer, for one thing, but it wasn't so much that he was oblivious to everything - he was hyper-aware of Alex there against him, her arms around his neck, his hands on her and their mouths together in the middle. But that was all he was thinking of, considering, and when he finally got a grip and pulled away, he regretted it instantly. He just wanted to sit there and kiss her forever.
"Uh," he said after a moment or two of silence. That was literally the only thing his brain could think of and he was slightly embarrassed by it - he didn't want Alex to think even slightly that he was embarrassed by this. In fact, for pretty much the first time, he wanted nothing less than to move away from a girl. Radical, for him. Just making sure she didn't think he was freaking out or something, he reached up gently and pushed some hair out of her face gently, the way he'd seen some boys do to their girlfriends. Now, feeling happy that he'd made that move, he finally managed to get a slightly more coherent sentence out.
"That was, I, um... You're so great, Alex," he eventually settled for, overcome with embarrassment again, ducking his head to stare at his lap. "I - kissing you was the nicest thing that's ever happened to me."

As Lysander pulled away from her, Alex's arms slowly slid back down to rest at her sides and she struggled not to let her cheeks flood with warmth because yeah, she may have just kissed a guy - an amazing guy who was funny and smart and sweet - but she wasn't all of a sudden the type of girl who blushed at a kiss, right? She was still her and some guy's lips against hers wasn't going to change that fact.
Glancing at him as he started to say something, she waited... for him to not continue. Because he had just tucked that same piece of hair behind her ear. A slow, possibly stupid-looking, grin made it's way onto her lip and she returned to picking at that loose thread on her jersey again until he finally came out with more words.
An overwhelming sensation of warmth rushed over her and her grin only got bigger as he ducked his head. Turning to face him and looking as pleased as punch, she told him honestly, "Me too... that was... it was really awesome. I mean, you know what I mean, right? You were there after all. I meant what I said before, you know. About you being cool. You're not like the rest of those douchenozzles in Hogwarts. You're different. Really different in a good way."
